never heard of the brand before are these better than my Airpods Max?

    • +11

everything is better than apple, come on……

        • +11

Denon existed way before apple started making headphones. They tend to make higher end audio equipment targeted towards professionals users.

          • -5

@Penguin8213: so yes or no? is is better quality than the Airpods Max? in both sound and build quality?

            • +2

@kungfuman: Sound will be definitely better. Build quality will be slightly lower than Airpod Max. IMO Apple's build quality is unparalleled.

              • @Penguin8213: does the Denon have lossless support? wireless headphones tend to lack this.

                • +5

@kungfuman: You can only get true lossless audio quality via wire. What most high end Bluetooth headphones do is play audio via "lossless" audio compression.

Quick check, Airpod Max transmits audio using AAC at 256kbps. The APTX HD protocol (which apple products do not support) used by these Denon's allow audio transmission at 576 kpbs. LDAC on Sony Headphones (again not supported by apple products) allow audio transmission at 990 kbps

          • @Penguin8213: Apple never started making headphones as they bought a company that making headphones..

        • +9

If only it worked like that.

Good marketing gets better sales than good products. The fact that you declare you never heard of Denon is evidence of this.

            • +9

@kungfuman: Once you dive down the audiophile hole, you will discover there are a world of brands that you have never heard of that will cost you an arm and a leg. The downside of buying these brands in Australia though is there aren't many places you can test them before purchase.

              • @Penguin8213: If you are in Melbourne, there are a few places you can try them. One of them is Addicted to Audio has so muuch headphones to try and demo.

            • @kungfuman: how about Sennheiser? Denon, Focal and Beyerdynamic are a few brand out there

              • +3

@xmchen: good lord this guy really doesnt know much and is super assertive about his ignorance

apple bought Dr. Dre's company Beats… they dont know much about SQ really but their users arent super fussy about SQ so that evens out (as seen here!)

Denon is an amazing company but they arent that well known for their personal audio gear… their HT gear is good, I have a Denon preamp.

Also this set of headphones runs micro usb so you know what that means.

            • @kungfuman: lol, this has proved that you are not an audiophile person and doesn't really adventure out of all these brands that you can find in JB.

there are so many brands out there that has a better sound signature, build quality and the list goes on. In saying that, many products have their own pros and cons.

      …..

    • +1

Denon is (or certainly used to be) an elite brand. Like the high-end Technics was.

    • +1

      heard of google?

        • +1

Do you know how to use it?

          • +1

@smartazz104: To be fair, he was only asked if he'd heard of it. ;P

  • Had Headphones from this company. Loved the bass head curve…but the comfort…was a completely different story. I would suggest a plastic comfortable headphone is still better than fancy metal ones if you can't wear them for more than an hour. Doesn't have ANC.

  • -3

    Better than Sony's?

    • +6

Which Sonys? The cheap $50 headphones at Big W and Kmart or the $500 XM series?

  • +1

Micro USB charging for a 2019 headphone yuck.

    • -1

Yeah that's some lazy bullshit on their behalf

    • Yeah I don't buy anything that doesn't charge by usb-c nowadays

  • +1

So apparently this doesn't have the FreeEdge drivers like its noise cancelling siblings do (GC25NC and GC30). Can't find many reviews on these.

  • how's the comfort on these? comparable to bose? (on my testing/store demo, the Sony XMs were never as comfortable as Bose) thanks

    • Headphones are uncomfortable when you first wear them. They'll often be too tight and require time to loosen up. Wearing them once isn't really a fair test, and I have a big head so most definitely need time to loosen. I've never had a headset not become comfortable given time, includin ones that were too tight to begin with. Other than that this one is an adjustable over ear, so should be absolutely fine comfort wise.

      • if you're talking about the XMs, I don't think long term use will change my opinion. Looking at it, the foam doesn't seem to be as thick as the Bose.
