funny the Impossible™ Simply Grill’d burger just so happens to not be on the menu for my local Grill'd so i cant add it, but im sure its just a coincidence.

    • -8

      i didn't find it funny

      • +12

        No one asked

      • +7

        i find this interaction funny.

    • +16

The beyond burger is better, but they're both better than their beef burgers to be honest.

Beyond and impossible are the only two companies that have managed to make plant based burgers that are good.

      • Agreed. Beyond > impossible

      • +5

        V2 patties are my fav

    • +2

never been to grill'd but if it's anything like hungry jacks impossible whopper, it doesn't make much of a difference as both the meat and plant burgers are so processed, they don't really have much of a meaty taste in the first place.

people also assume that the plant burgers are healthier, but they are actually worse for you given how processed they are.

      • +1

You haven't backed up your claim. Asserting "processed = bad" doesn't make it so.

        • -3

          https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2019/10/psa-hungry-jacks-plant…

please tell me you aren't actually trying to say that fast food is good for you…?

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: No? I'm telling you that you haven't provided evidence for your claim that processed = bad (why?). Your tabloid news article is trash and doesn't say anything meaningful (40kj more and higher sodium doesn't magically make something bad for you).

Here's a review of an actual clinical trial study (you can find the linked study in the page):

            https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2020/08/plant-based-m…

            "
For eight weeks, half of the participants ate the plant-based diet, while the other half ate the meat-based diet consisting of primarily red meat, although some participants ate a small amount of chicken. Then they switched. Regardless of which diet participants were on, both groups had on average two servings of meat or plant-based alternatives per day, carefully tracking their meals in journals and working with members of Gardner’s team to record their eating habits.

Outside of TMAO, health benefits conveyed from plant-based alternatives extended to weight and levels of LDL cholesterol — or “bad” cholesterol. No matter which diet was first, participants’ levels of LDL cholesterol dropped on average 10 milligrams per deciliter, which is not only statistically significant, but clinically significant too, Gardner said. In addition, participants lost 2 pounds, on average, during the plant-based portion of the diet.

“The modest weight loss observed when participants substituted the plant-based meats in place of the red meats is an unexpected finding, since this was not a weight-loss study,” Crimarco said. “I think this indicates the importance of diet quality. Not all highly processed foods are created equal.”
            "

            • @Lolmania: the normal whopper makes up somewhere around 1/3rd to 1/2 of your daily recommended intake of sodium, calories etc (depending on source) so anything higher than that is obviously going to be worse for you, as most people are not going to take that into consideration when eating their other meals throughout the day.

              https://www.sbs.com.au/news/the-feed/article/just-because-it…

Plant-based proteins, which replicate meat through ingredients like pea protein isolate and refined coconut oil, also fall into the category of ultra-processed foods.

“We are only just getting evidence from ultra-processed food but we do have some initial signs that they can also lead to obesity, cardiometabolic disease, cancer,” Sievet said.

“There’s even some evidence to say that they can change the bacteria in the gut microbiome.”

              https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/what-are-ultra-processed…

Another study, this one published in The BMJ, examined representative dietary records of more than 100,000 French adults over a five-year period. They found that those who consumed more ultra-processed foods had higher risks of cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease. These results remained statistically significant even after the researchers adjusted for the nutritional quality of the diet (considering factors such as the amount saturated fat, sodium, sugar, and dietary fiber in the diets). Although large observational studies do not prove cause and effect, the research does suggest an association between ultra-processed diets and heart disease.

@[Deactivated]: This was your initial claim: "people also assume that the plant burgers are healthier, but they are actually worse for you given how processed they are." We are not talking about general observational risks of processed foods but comparing plant based burgers to their meat counterparts. Neither of your news and blog articles address this. Of course junk food is bad, everybody knows that and you don't need a study for that, but that's not what you were arguing. Do you have evidence for your assertion that the plant based option is worse than the meat patty?

I showed you the results of a clinical trial that directly compared plant based meats and red meat with a clear leaning that the plant alternative meats were healthier - specifically lowering LDL levels, inflammation and leading to weight loss. You'll need to show evidence on the contrary that directly picks this apart

                • -2

@Lolmania: And plant based proteins fall into the ultra processed category, which is associated with higher risks of heart disease. I've already proven my point. You can go ahead and eat them if you want, but I wouldn't risk it if I wanted to live a long, healthy life. Stick to normal vegetables and fruits for best results.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: You haven't provided evidence for that, just a generalisation and hand waving. Lowering LDL, weight and inflammation is considered good, if you want better health outcomes eat "processed" plant protein over red meat since its scientifically and clinically healthier as I've already shown. So again, the onus is on you to provide evidence of why you think plant alt meat is "actually worse for you given how processed they are" as you haven't cited anything that shows this, I've already shown you the opposite is true.

      • -1

"processed" = chopped and ground vegetables… It's hilarious the mental gymnastics people will go through to convince themselves of this sort of stuff

I bet you think making a cake is processed too lol right? Because that's the level of consistency you have. Right?

    • Yeah, I'll have to give this one a pass as well

  • +1

Send to be delivery only. Anyone able to use pick up with this deal?

    • Yes for me delivery only too.

Mine is getting delivered right now (along with my Possible Burger of beef and bacon). I'd never buy the meatless but I'll try one for free.

    • +10

      Alright I'm done.
Hot take: fake meat actually tasted decent, but cows still taste significantly better. At least I can say I've tried it, and it was alright.

      • +2

I wouldn't pick it over actual meat for the same price but if I can get it for a dollar, absolutely

      • +1

Try the beyond meat version, it's much better than the impossible.

    • I bought 2 when it was buy-one-get-one-free
Ended up eating a few bites then binning them both :(

      • +4

It must be hard being such a picky eater.

        • -2

I like it actually. I'm like 95% carnivore now.

    • When it first launched there was a glitch where it let you order as many $1 impossible burgers as you wanted; end up getting three delivered.

  • Has anyone actually been able to get this deal?

    • Yes. I just finished eating one. Surprisingly good.

      • Did u spend $20 to get free delivery?

  • -2

FYI: you can create some of their other burgers (meat) using the add ons and it comes out to be cheaper.

  • -1

when this first came out u could order as many $1 impossible burgers, you could also use the promotion onces per Grill'd location so i was able to change address to my office and order more burgers. Ended up ordering 25 burgers over 3 orders.

  • -2

Ordered one last night, arrived completly cold so it went in the bin. It didnt look too bad tbh

  • Found another glitch, add the other item to your cart and add the burger, make sure that the discount is applied to your burger, then remove the other item and your burger should still be discounted.

    • But then you have to pay the delivery fee.

      • Ordering one burger the unit price is $3, but if you order two burgers for $20 the unit price is $10.

  • No discount applied for me either. I have Uber Pass and followed as above. Must be targeted.

  • +2

This promo is multiple use so go for seconds, thirds and fourths.
