and the trap continues. then people get upset that they are on hold with qantas cs for 4 hours

    • Why would we be on hold?

flight cancellations, changes, shit hits the fan. I've yet to not have a booking have a schedule change since 2020 (across any airline domestic or international)

      • Guessing you have not flown much since covid. More than 90% of my flights have been changed/cancelled at least once. Some up to 4 times. Many have required long on hold calls to qantas. Fyi posting this from Qantas club Brisbane, this flight changed twice with 1 long onhold call. Still that's the price you pay for travel ATM.

        • I actually have been flying a fair bit in the last 2 years, not regularly, but at least 4-6 trips interstate somewhere. Usually a mix of Qantas and Virgin, and not had a single issue with Qantas, but Virgin decided to cancel my flight and book me on a flight the next day as we were checked out. Not fun.

          • @jaygee: You have been lucky then. I have flown for probably 15 or so trips, 30+ flights. All but a few have had changes. I don't blame the airlines for that, it is hell for them too with crew catching covid it can completely screw their schedules at a moment's notice. But the phone queues are what piss me off no end, they could reallocate people for this.

    • I just had to make alterations to a booking after United changed my flight timing (yay for 17mins turnaround in DFW)…

Selected callback on the line and had a call back under 2 hrs later, all sorted in about 15mins after that.

Pretty good service if you ask me. Especially compared to my experience of being stuck in Sydney for 4 days and having to physically run between three airline offices to coordinate new flights after one of them cancelled one flight.

  • Bingo, been waiting for this for getting back to Platinum One (just for giggles, i dont use anything past Gold)

    • solid flex

    • You don't use the first lounge flying intl or the business lounge flying dom? You don't get sick of them telling you that you're heading into the wrong one?

      • Club domestic and usually checking people in intl.

"Flights are not available on this date. See other dates above." yet the date above shows the price…

  • Any recommendations on the best way to cancel flights and rebook?

Given the sale fares and bonus points, in my scenario it's about $1000 benefit to go through the trouble, but it's hard to know how Qantas will process that request in regards to cash refund/flight credit etc.

Refunds take too long. Your probably better off getting a flight credit and then rebooking. Pretty sure flight credits are issued within 24hrs if not instantly.

      • Ended up requesting a refund. Too difficult to negotiate anything else with the call center.

Connecting to Qantas was horrendous (started at 9:30am, finally made a connection at 11:00pm after multiple disconnects with our longest wait time before disconnecting at about 4.25 hours). Google "hold for me" was amazing though.

  • My mom booked tickets 2 days ago, she'd need to cancel and rebook?

    • If you can get credits… also just be sure they don’t screw you over when you try to use them by increasing the cost.

Qantas has shown its true colours during the pandemic. A sad excuse for a national airline that bailed on Aussies wanting to come back home. The Middle Eastern carriers had to pick up the slack!

Fares are better at Virgin (for interstate travel). Especially when it comes to Business class ones. I’m gold on QF and wouldn’t be trying to go out of my way to renew my status after the sh*t show with cancellations and flight credits.

As others have said, good luck if you ever have to call their call centres. Even VA’s internationally based call centres are easier to deal with!

  • Can I get this reward if I book with Amex Travel?

I have Amex Qantas credits I want to use.

    • +1

Yes, but it must be a new PNR. If you use a previously used travel credit on your card you are fine, if it was a previously booked trip that was cancelled and stored as a credit I suspect it keeps the original PNR but can't be sure.

Warning to all: Qantas has NOT fixed their customer service

It still takes >2 hours on hold (likely more) to get through to anyone. They do not respond to their web form or emails. I have boycotted Qantas and have used up all my points on hotels and such.

    • The waiting line is 2hrs long for even Platinum One members! So much for loyalty.
