  • Damn!
Just bought the 65 inch version (not refurb) for about $250 less about a week ago thinking I'd have it for this weekend only to find they still haven't got stock in. Let alone shipped it to me.

    Great price.

  • Very tempted. This size probably sweet spot for my apartment
Probably about $800 off retail after using vouchers and a bit of haggling.

But refurbished could be a bit of a gamble?.any experience and or thoughts?

    • Thiking the same. How reliable are the refurb units?

Just returning one. Isn't fun receiving a faulty unit (have to be home), going through support to convince faulty when its obvious and should not have left the repair shop - even at this price not trying again and will find something else.

Sigh, if only they had good QC and consistency. It seems a real lotto (some good, others blatently obvious as faulty on arrival like mine). I hope people have better luck than I just did, it stressed me out so much.

        • Damn. That's worrying

        • +1

          Yep similar.
          Just get eBay involved.
They stepped in and refunded me pretty much immediately.
You've still got to be home for the pickup, but at least half the battle is done.

          • @ESEMCE: How does being home or not being home matter? does it get sent somewhere else and liability is on them? Sorry for ignorance first time buying something so expensive online.

            • @drup: Well most people buying a mid-upper end TV have jobs and although work from home works for some people, it doesn't for many.
And it's not like couriers give you a small window to be home, it's at best 8-12 or 12-5.
And it's really 2 extra unplanned days at home, cause you're likely going to need to be home for the delivery of the replacement as well!
(it's not just an online thing, even if you buy in store, you're likely going to need a 75" TV to be delivered)

    • But refurbished could be a bit of a gamble?.any experience and or thoughts?

First place to find out is their feedbacks on eBay. Plenty of TV purchase feed backs there to give you a good idea.

Atleast one post I found on whirlpool (after I had my own experience with a faulty unit) implied negative feedback had been removed. Buyers should do their own research and decide on their risk appetite also to be aware they are actually refurbs/seconds and not new overflow stock like someone speculated in another deal. We have enough sample size just on OzB to know for sure they are not.

Haven't left feedback yet as havent got my money back yet. But will see if it stays when I post it.

Go straight to the Negative reviews to see some (I note that mine from 10 months ago is not there, so clearly deleted) of the negative experiences.

It’s a lucky dip as to what you get from the sound of it.

  • +1

Shit. Bought too early. They do price protect?

    • You could cancel and repurchase if they have not shipped?

      • Mine is shipped but sitting on a DHL storage facility somewhere in Sydney since 17th March. DHL cannot tell me when it will be sent on their road transport but did say that it is not priority so is just sitting waiting for there to be a slow down. I contacted Sony about this but was told that they have shipped and the delays are outside of their hands.

They do 30 day price protection if you message them on eBay. Just got the difference refunded.

Price just dropped to $1899 with the coupon. Unbelievable price on this size and quality so I pulled the trigger! Thanks OP. Wish me luck!

      Yep excellent price!

TV arrived today and I can’t tell the difference between this and a brand new unit. Did a DSE test on YouTube and it’s better than my factory new Hisense Q8. No banding, just some mild cloudiness is noticed when tracking moving objects with the eyes. Static grey looks perfect. No light bleed. Very happy! Not too sure what makes this a factory second, maybe the calibration? The box still had a November embargo sticker on it making me think it might just be retail new. Hoping others here have the same luck.

        • Just got mine yesterday, ordered last Wednesday for $1899. So pretty quick delivery by DHL.

          TV is Brand New!!
They must of been clearing old stock to make way for 2022 models or something.
Very minimal DSE too, this is a great panel, super stoked. It's replacing a 58inch Aldi Bauhn QLED. And this is much brighter. Wife and kids are happy too :)

          • @Sevo: Did your invoice mention that it was "seconds"?

I ordered one yesterday ($1,979.10) but the invoice just says SONY 75 INCH 4K under description and XR75X90J under item. I would have though it would mention that it's "seconds". You would assume the same item code would go to the warehouse for shipping. I'm hoping it's new.

  • Ive never bought a refurb but really on a tight budget and this seems like a great price for an amazing tv. I hope i dont regret this.

    ::update
I've uploaded a filter of refurb reviews that have been left on sony's ebay. Hope it helps someone (although noted above some have reported ebay/sony have been deleting bad reviews.

    • It's been a while since I bothered to leave bad feedback, but doesn't bad feedback need to be removed by agreement?

If that's the case then Sony probably fixed the issues. Which in my mind is a good thing.

  • Got one for $1,979.10.

Service menu confirmed it had 0 hours on it. It was brand new.
