Yep back to under the bridge

        • +1

I love what you've done with the bridge. It looks great :)

Can you post a link to where we can get a pixel 6 pro for $218

      • -2

        Its $1000+

        Even refurb not that cheap

        • +2

Then obviously your comment is pointless. Thanks for confirming

    • +3

Yes but you can buy 5x Pixel 3s for the same price, which gives you Pixel 15, much better than Pixel 6

      • +1

        True.
should have done my maths before commenting.

        :(

  • Can still get Android 12 on it, and it's running the top spec 2018 Snapdragon chipset (the 845) so the phone shouldn't be too slow or laggy with anything. The camera's plenty capable but no headphone jack :/

Only problem I would worry about would be the battery life.

    • Had mine since September last year. Can't complain about the battery. $218 seems a bit expensive for a 3-4 years old phone.
If one is interested in free original quality photo back up, better off sourcing a 2nd hand Pixel 1 on eBay.

      • Just to confirm, does Google Pixel XL still have the free original quality photo back up?

        • Yep, for life.
And easy to set up the 7/11 chopper.
          Really good investment:-)

    • I bought this phone a half year ago. I put it at home and always connect to power as a photo uploader. and never use it outside as a normal phone

        In case you're not aware:

You get unlimited storage in Original quality at no charge for all photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from Pixel 3 through Jan 31, 2022. Photos and videos backed up on or before that date will remain in Original quality at no charge. After January 31, 2022 new photos and videos will be backed up in Storage saver quality (previously named High quality) at no charge. Photos and videos backed up in Original quality will count toward your Google Account storage.

      • Hang on doesn't the photo / video need to be taken by the pixel?

        • Nope.

I use Syncthing to sync photos from my phone to my Google Pixel 1. Works fine. I have a smart plug + IFTTT to ensure my battery in my Pixel 1 doesn't get cooked from being on charge all the time

Apparently you can also flash a custom ROM on other devices and then install a magisk module that will make your phone think it's a Pixel 5, but YMMV

          • @stephendt: You only get storage saver on pixel 5 though.
I only turn on my pixel XL once in a while (like once a week) to back up my pics, so the battery is not always on.

          • @stephendt: Have Just dug my pixel 1 out of the tech box and now on charge………bro that's amazing

          • @stephendt: follow up question if i could please, I have sync'd folders with my pixel 1, however by storage is currently 86% full with photos. Will google recognize these as being on my P1 eventually? How do i get rid of the legacy photo / video storage now?

    • I got one two months ago, it couldn't turn on since the battery had not been charged for years, but after a few changes, it's been working without any issues, shows 96% battery health on AccuBattery

This is a great phone, even today. $218 is a bargain.

    • Agree

  • +6

Phew.. glad it's not pink. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

  • I wouldn't be buying a phone with no more security updates. Private data security is worth more than saving a few bucks.

    • -2

samsung or iphone suits you then

    • You can get security updates and newer OS versions by installing a custom ROM still supported by OSS developers e.g. LineageOS.

  • I am using a pixel 3 as my daily driver still. Decently fast for my requirements.
    Battery sucks, however.
But it ain't broke, so not fixing it.

  • If we click photos from some other phone and transfer them to pixel to get them uploaded to the Google photos, will this work?

    • +1

You can use the syncthing app
You can even push pics from laptop to pixel then cloud for free this way

    • Yes (for now at least)

  • lol not this again

Been trying to get a new Pixel 5, wondering how there is still stock of the 3 but the 5 is nowhere to be found?

    • 2 3s and youve a got a 6

I would guess it sold better, or better production estimates for the 5
      .

      • I believe the 5's in screen's speaker wasn't great quality. They probably didn't sell much hence didn't make as much of the 3s.
Also most of the remaining stock is not so pink (which you wouldn't notice once in a case)

  • Bought one just for Myki tickets..🤣

  • Phone arrived yesterday,. Box was sealed and everything looked fine, but then there was a sim in the sim tray already? That's not normal right?

    • Nope. Is the sim activated?

    • +1

I wouldn't have thought so but it wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility for a carrier to organise something like that to make it really simple for their customers. You may have found a smoking gun. Maybe check with the carrier or their user forums the SIM is from. Check whether those phones were originally locked too. Maybe the carrier will be prepared to give you the provenance of the phone. (Ha, I never expected to use the word provenance in a post.)

  • Does anyone know if apps such as Google Sheets/Docs should come pre-installed on a pixel?
