Cheap 40-50" TV's - I Have a Few Questions for Owners

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a cheap TV for use in my Alfresco, it will be on a pivoting wall mount and housed within a TV cover when not in use.
Budget $400-$600.

I have a few questions for those that own cheap TV's like FFalcon, EKO and Kogan etc.

  • Would it be better to go Android TV Operating System or an alternative like WebOS etc, then buy a Chromecast w/ Google TV?
(I'm unsure how slow Google TV is when it's directly on cheap TV's)

  • Do they support ARC via HDMI? (I have a receiver w/ HDMI cable link inside the house that can power external ceiling speakers in the Alfresco)

  • Are they bright enough to be visible in a shady-ish area in the afternoon?

  • Is there anything else I should look out for when purposely going for a cheaper TV?

  • If you do have one, what is it? And would you recommend it for my use case?

  • Will you have wifi access in your alfresco area?

    • I do, but I've also ran Ethernet out there.

Ok. For the given budget they are most likely all the same panels no matter what the brand. Just pick your favourite looking one.

I recommend getting an Amazon fire stick 4k max (around $50 when on special) and that will cover 99% of your use with the one remote. With a custom loader you can do some real fancy shite.

One thing I can guarantee is that all TVs in that price range have shit speakers. Budget around $150+ for a decent soundbar. Fluffing around with receivers and external speakers will be a pain - especially if you've been drinking or have guests watching your lack of tech prowess.

I've got an older Hisense P8 and it has quite a few of those features. Good Guys ebay have some that are in your price range. It was cheaper during the afterpay sale.

Would definitely recommend getting chromecast with GTV. I've been using a nvidia shield though the interface is similar.

Got Hisense A7G and happy enough with it

Use Chromecast with it and never use the TV's own remote - everything I want (Netflix, Youtube, Amazon Prime Video) can all be done with Google's remote

I got a soundbar for it as well though as the speakers are terrible as someone else said for this price range.

I have a Teac and it is a POS. It has some form of Android TV OS but is so slow and glitchy, I ended up buying a foxtel now box and connecting to it and that works well. The TV is really just a display, I would not buy another Teac but won’t get rid of it whilst it still works.
