  • "The restaurant card" does it mean I can use almost all restaurant? Nowadays almost all restaurant accept EFTPOS.

    • +2

      Yes, as long as:

      • EFTPOS facilities are available and operational at the restaurant.

      • The restaurant accepts swipe cards. I think you can go to the TCN website and exchange the physical EFTPOS gift card for a digital Mastercard version that you can add to Apple/Google/Samsung Pay, but you may start having to pay a surcharge for using the Mastercard network. I can think of a few local restaurants that surcharge for Mastercard, but does not surcharge for EFTPOS Savings.

      • The restaurant accepts prepaid gift cards. In all fairness, I have not come across a restaurant that automatically blocks prepaid gift cards or aggressively questions you if they see you try to use a prepaid gift card for payment, but who knows, such a restaurant probably exists…

      • The restaurant's EFTPOS terminal is configured with the merchant category code (MCC) that corresponds with Restaurants and Eating Places. This point is the most important point, as TCN uses MCCs to determine whether you're at a restaurant vs a supermarket vs a hardware store, etc. The problem is that if the restaurant's EFTPOS terminal is incorrectly configured in respect to the MCC, the gift card will not work. For example, I went to a Cafe one time with a friend who wanted to use a card that only works at restaurants and eating places. However, when they went to pay for the meal, the EFTPOS terminal kept on denying payment. They eventually relented and paid with a regular card, and when they contacted the bank that issued their regular card, the bank said the MCC for the cafe was actually for a bakery, which is a completely different MCC. (I'm not saying this is a common problem, but it is a flaw with using MCCs to determine the type of merchant you're at.)

  • can we swap these for JB Hifi gift cards online?

    • At the moment, yes. (According to TCN's website, anyway.)

      • How please? Even the older cards sold from last year?

        • +4
          • Go to the TCN webpage for the TCN gift card you love.

          • Scroll down to the How to Use section.

          • If you have a TCN Him, Her or Home gift card, select JB Hi-Fi from the dropdown list.

          • To the right of the dropdown list, there will be an Online button. Click on that button and you’ll see a message talking about how you can redeem part or the full balance of your gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

          • Click on Proceed, fill in your gift card’s details on the next page and click on submit.

          • Follow the prompts and you’ll eventually have a JB Hi-Fi gift card sent to you.

If you have a TCN Kids, Teen or Gift gift card, you’ll need to input the card number to see your redemption options (for some reason). I have never used a TCN Kids, Teen or Gift gift card, so I’m not sure what pops up after inputting the card number, but I would imagine it is something very similar.

Also, it should not matter when you purchased the gift card (as long as the gift card is not expired). If you have a valid TCN Him, Her, Home, Teen, Kids or Gift gift card, you should be able to redeem part or all of its balance for a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the TCN website.

@WookieMonster: Thank you so much for this. Will try this when I get home tonight.

  • +1

    1000 Qantas points

  • Is there a way to swap these for another type? Have 2 x $100 TCN Active cards that can't be used at JB :/

  • Do I only earn 2000 Everyday Rewards points no matter how many TCN gift cards I purchase?

    • +1

Based on my experience in previous deals:

      • You’ll earn 2,000 bonus points on the $100 denominations.

      • You’ll only earn 1,000 bonus points on the $50 denominations.1

      • The deal states you’ll only earn bonus points on ten gift cards, but I’m not sure whether this limit is actually enforced.2

      1. I know that the catalogue states that you’ll earn 2,000 bonus on all denominations, but when Woolworths advertised a similar bonus points promotion recently, I only received 1,000 bonus points when purchasing a $50 gift card, and it took some wrangling before Everyday Rewards would give me the missing 1,000 bonus points. The Everyday Rewards’ internal documentation apparently stated that $50 gift cards would only earn 1,000 bonus points, but I had to send a link to the Woolworths catalogue before they relented.

      2. In a recent gift card deal, I purchased gift cards in two transactions on the same day and still received bonus points, even though that was against the terms of that specific offer.

      • Does that mean if I buy 10 $100 gift cards, I'll receive 20000 bonus points?

      • 2 transactions in the same store or different?

        • +1

On one day, I went to one store and did two transactions. I got bonus points on both transactions.

On another day, I went to two stores and did one transaction at each store. I got bonus on both transactions.

Any of this card can use at Amazon?

    • Nope.

      • Amazon is not a participating merchant of any gift cards.

      • I would be extremely surprised if any of the participating merchants sell Amazon gift cards. None of my local JB Hi-Fi stores sell Amazon gift cards.

  • Just curious what you all think is the effective discount % in this case? Exchanging these reward points for $10 means you can't use discounted gift cards for that $10. Assuming one has access to 4% woolies GC and don't value Qantas points above 1c, then the discount you effectively get is only 6%?

    • Good point!! 5% for me at the moment.

    • +1

      You’ve misplaced a 0.

You bought the $10 of 4% off discount cards for $9.60, not $6.

So instead of $10 of value you only get $9.60.

Assuming you were going to spend $10 anyway at Woolies and you don’t increase your spending as a result of the points, the effective discount is 9.6/100= 9.6%.

      • Ah, yes. Makes sense. Thanks!

  • If they include $200 Restaurant Card for 4000 points and that would be great. Not sure if they are selling it anymore in-store.

  • +1

So 2000 points is $10, is that right?

  • +3

The restaurant card is useless. I have some card with a few dollar balance left. Feels awkward to ask the resturant swipe multiple cards at the same time!

  • If u need TCN cards urgently this is good. Otherwise I can wait for better deal

  • Can someone confirm if I can buy 10 gift cards ($100) in one transaction and get 20,000 points, please? Or should I do each gift card in many different transactions. Thanks

    • +3

Confirmed as of this morning. 10 in one transaction.

    As found on Finder

Thinking about a big purchase at JB Hi-Fi? Here's a way to score a stack of Qantas Frequent Flyer points at the same time.

From today until Tuesday 5 April 2022, Woolworths is offering 2,000 bonus Everday Reward points on $100 TCN Him gift cards. One of the places you can redeem those cards is JB Hi-Fi.

    Here's how it works:

    • Grab as many cards as you need. The maximum for this offer is 10 cards, which would cost $1,000 – not a huge amount if you're planning to buy a laptop or TV.
    • Make sure your Everyday Rewards are set up to convert to Qantas Points (this is always the best use for them in my view).
    • For a $1,000 spend, you'll end up with 20,000 Everyday Rewards points, which converts to 10,000 Qantas Points.
    • what will 10K Qantas points get you ?

      • Not a whole lot - a short domestic flight plus surcharges.

Ummmm this deal is like Ozbargain 101 - we've been doing things like this forever. This isn't even a particularly amazing example with no 15% discount or stacking.

You (and finder.com) are about 2 years late to the party.

      • "From today until Tuesday 5 April 2022, Woolworths is offering 2,000 bonus points" - it's literally a time-specific deal.

        • +1

          Whoosh

        • +1

It was literally already posted 2 days ago….see below

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/691257

All you've done is tell us that the points can be converted to Qantas Points and I can use TCN giftcards at JB - pretty common knowledge around these parts.

        • Read his comment again mate.
          You missed the point.

    • Agree, this is old news and not even a deal.
Try again when you can double stack, that is worth a post.

  • Are there any offers for eBay gift cards? Thought of buying a 4K 32-inch monitor, which is on deal currently (ends tomorrow).

    • +1

ShopBack has it at 3% off(cash back)

      • I was looking for a Swap Celebration gift card. At times, Woolies/BigW/Coles offers 10% off.

  • Hi, is the limit 10 cards per day? I've already purchased 10 yesterday can I still purchase 10 today and get the reward points? Thanks.

    • +2

The easiest way to find out is to grab a $100 TCN gift card, scan it and an Everyday Rewards card at a self-serviced checkout (assuming the store you go to has them), and then go to the payment screen.

If you will get bonus points on that gift card, you'll have a pop-up message come up on the screen say "you have earned $10 off a future shop" and you may also be able to see a points counter towards the top right-hand corner of the screen.

If you will not get bonus points on the gift card, you'll see nothing as soon as you go to the payment screen. If this happens, you can cancel the purchase, as you're not really obliged to complete the purchase at this stage.

      • My local store NEVER has a sign saying what cards are on sale. It’s good cause no one else buys them but bad for me to confirm.

  • Is this inclusive of 05/02?

    • +1

This deal ends when stores close on Tuesday (05 April). Essentially, you can buy the gift cards in this deal on Tuesday and get bonus points.

  • Has anyone here ever returned something that they bought with Woolworths Rewards Dollars? If so, do they refund in cash, rewards dollars or do you just lose the rewards dollars?

Wanting to do a return at Big W if that makes a difference.

    • At Woolworths, the default for an in-store refund is to refund the Everyday Rewards Dollars amount to a card from a financial institution (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, EFTPOS), but staff have the ability to override it and refund to cash or a gift card.

I assume it is the same in-store at BIG W, as BIG W and Woolworths have almost identical POS systems in their physical stores.

I am not sure what happens if your original purchase at BIG W was through their website and then you initiate a refund through their website.

  • Happened with me three times, first time they refunded me on gift card and second and third time they didn’t bother to check how i paid, they asked my normal card and refunded in my card plus gave me 1000 points as a goodwill gesture.
