Some things to note regarding the gift card in this deal:

You may not be able to use The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards pictured in this deal to purchase some gift cards at Woolworths.

You may come across two types of The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards at your local Woolworths:

    • “Older” The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards, with card numbers starting with 502125. You can see the design of these “older” gift cards in a previous Woolworths deal.

    • “Newer” The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards, with card numbers starting with 638947. These gift cards are the ones pictured in this deal.

You cannot use the “older” gift cards to purchase other “older” gift cards at Woolworths, as it will trigger a Mastercard - Items Not Allowed error. One of the reasons for this was likely to prevent people from using a team member discount to purchase a $500 gift card at a 5% discount (at $482.95), then using that gift card to purchase a new $500 gift card at a 5% discount (at $482.95), etc etc. (Before anyone gets too excited, Woolworths Group axed the in-store team member discount on gift cards in late 2021.)

There are a number of other gift cards you cannot purchase using the “older” gift card (or any other EFTPOS gift cards starting with 502125) at Woolworths:

    • OnlyONE prepaid Visa gift cards (the ones that are not restricted to specific MCCs)
    • Westfield EFTPOS gift cards
    • eBay gift cards
    • Woolworths Group & Partner gift cards (e.g. WISH gift cards, Dan Murphy’s gift cards)

On the other hand, I was able to use one of the “older” gift cards to pay for a Swap Celebration gift card and an Ultimate gift card earlier this year at Woolworths.

Having said all of that, I have not tested whether you can use the “newer” gift cards to purchase other gift cards at Woolworths or BIG W (including other “newer” gift cards). These “newer” gift cards started replacing the “older” gift cards at Woolworths and BIG W in late December 2021, and my guess is that Woolworths has implemented the same restrictions as well, but that is something that will need to be tested…

For anyone wondering, there are no such restrictions on the use of The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards at Coles. I used both “older” and “newer” The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards to purchase Coles Gift Mastercards and Vanilla Visa gift cards in recent months with zero issues.

You may be able to use “older” or “newer” The Perfect EFTPOS gift cards to pay for bills through Post Billpay in-store at Australia Post.

Apparently, it is against Australia Post’s rules to use any EFTPOS gift cards as a payment method for Post Billpay payments, but this is not automatically blocked in Australia Post’s system for the “older” gift cards. You may run into staff who will tell you “you cannot use EFTPOS gift cards to pay for bills”, but I was able to pay for a bill at Australia Post using two “older” gift cards at the start of this year. The staff were initially unsure of how to do split payments, but thankfully they were nice enough to figure out how to do it.

I assume it is the same situation for the “newer” gift cards, but I have not had the chance to test this out myself lately…

I’ll also add that you should not go overboard with using EFTPOS gift cards as a payment method for bills at Australia, because apparently this is something that is monitored and you may be flagged for doing it too frequently. Considering EFTPOS gift cards are treated as proprietary debit by Australia Post, it is fairly straightforward for them to flag bill payments paid in full or in part using EFTPOS gift cards…

To check the balance of a The Perfect EFTPOS gift card:

    • For the “older” gift cards, you can check the balance here

    • For the “newer” gift cards, you can check the balance here. (And yes, that’s the same balance check website as the one used for the Ultimate (Visa) gift cards.)

Both the “older” and “newer” gift cards expire three years from the date of issue.

Curiously, the balance check website for the “newer” gift cards curiously includes a reference to another expiry date (31/12/2037). Apparently, this is the date you use for online purchases or adding the card to a mobile wallet, but there is currently no known way of doing either of these things.

    • +3

Wouldn't expect any less detail from you WM! :)

On a side note, worth mentioning for those planning to buy these EFTPOS GC's (say to meet credit card purchases etc) to not prepay utilities in large amounts, and discard the phycial cards too soon as you may run into issues down the track recently posted

      • I doubt you’d run into the issue experienced by the OP in the forum post you linked to.

Their issue was that they overpaid their AGL account by directly charging to their Coles Gift Mastercards (and I presume this was done online), which meant that AGL could easily return the funds to the Coles Gift Mastercards at any time. However, the gift cards in this deal can only be used on the EFTPOS network for in-person purchases, so they would not be able overpay their AGL account by directly using these EFTPOS gift cards. I don’t think you can have a refund processed onto these EFTPOS gift cards anyway…

If they managed to overpay their AGL account in-person at Australia Post using one of these EFTPOS gift cards (and I don’t know whether that’s possible), AGL would see that the payment was made via Australia Post and therefore would likely organise a refund via cheque or bank deposit. I don’t think you can process a refund back through Australia Post, because I don’t think Post Billpay is set up for that kind of situation.

Having said all of that, I would still hang onto EFTPOS gift cards for a while after redeeming its full balance, as you never know if/when a transaction is reversed, plus you need the physical EFTPOS gift card to redeem any funds (unlike the Coles Gift Mastercards, where a photo of the card or details of the card number, expiry date and CVC2 is sufficient). Also, who knows when you need to return an item that you paid for using an EFTPOS gift card and are required to show the EFTPOS gift card to demonstrate it was really you who purchased that item in the first place.

    • Your post is more perfect than the perfect EFTPOS gift card

  • +1

I can't see how the points cover the card fee?
And why does a $100 card cost more to activate than a $50 card.

    • +3

Buy a $500 card. Get $25 worth of points for $8. Of course then you have the inconvenience of having an eftpos card, rather then cash.

    • Assuming 10 points = 5c, then you will have to buy a variable gift card and put $150 on it or more in order to cover the activation fee.

    • Hopefully Coles has something this week to double stack them .

    • And why does a $100 card cost more to activate than a $50 card.

Possibly related to the merchant fees Woolworths pays for selling one of these cards. Intuitively a $100 transaction will cost the merchant more than a $50 transaction.

Then again, they probably just charge more, because they can.

  • -1

Not really good deal tho. Eftpos usage is more limited than a coles mastercard gift card and cost here is not covered by the discount.

    • +1

Eftpos usage is more limited than a coles mastercard gift card

Eftpos is limited to in-store use. If you're comparing in-store to in-store use, the acceptance should be the same. Eftpos is a little more convenient, because it comes with a PIN number. Mastercard gift card, you typically need to sign for it.

Yes - I understand you can use Mastercard gift card online, which is great.

Just posting this comment so people understand what they're getting.

      • +4

        MasterCard can be hacked.

      • So there no way to convert as many as you want to use online ?

Can I write one of those dummy books to show the path ?

        • So there no way to convert as many as you want to use online ?

There's various ways. See the original post about buying Master Gift cards at coles, when they're on sale.

Can I write one of those dummy books to show the path ?

Go for it, but the OP seems to have it covered.

  • Is this 4.9% off ?

  • So I can’t t buy these cards and then use them to buy jb hifi gift cards online that have the 3% cashback on a ShopBack or Cashrewards site ? These cards on offer are only for in store purchases? So I could buy the actual jb hifi gift cards in store at Woolworths?

    • +1

These cards on offer are only for in store purchases?

      Yes.

So I could buy the actual jb hifi gift cards in store at Woolworths?

At Woolworths, probably. I'm not sure which gift cards cannot be purchased using these EFTPOS gift cards at Woolworths, but considering I could use them to purchase Ultimate and Swap Celebration gift cards, it should be fine. If you time your purchase well, you should be able to use them to purchase TCN or Ultimate gift cards when there's another discount or bonus points promotion going on. However, keep in mind you cannot earn any standard Everyday Rewards points on any gift cards at Woolworths.

At Coles yes. There's no restriction on the types of gift cards you can use as a payment method at Coles, plus you'll earn 1x standard Flybuys point per dollar spent on gift cards. However, it may cause your minimum spend on Flybuys promotions to skyrocket, which has happened to me again within the last month…

  • WookieMonster do you know if there is a limit to the number or size of transactions when splitting payment?

Also if splitting payment when buying a gift card requires staff approval I'm concerned they might stop me if they notice multiple other prepaid cards being used as payment (none of them is an EFTPOS or OnlyONE Visa).

    • +2

splitting payment when buying a gift card requires staff approval

No at woolworths it does not require staff approval for that. (At coles you just cannot do split payment at self serve checkouts for GC's). But their staff cannot just cannot override any technical restriction that you may come across (like when buying OnlyONE visa with another OnlyONE visa Gift card).

      • I have done split payment at self-serviced at Woolies maximum 30 coles MC. Staff kept receipt for manager as she has never seen that long receipt yet.

        • Well IMO that's just a stupid manager in their Customer service department that asks the employees to keep receipts.
But honest it is kinda insane. They better not take your original receipt though (aka they reprint the receipt for their record).

          • @USER DC: They reprint the receipt and I don’t think manager asked for that, customer assistance was pro-activate.

            • @R n b: Man staff don't normally reprint receipts, unless they had been given directions by their supervisors/mangers to re-print the receipts.
Or the staff member itself just wants to print the receipt (for like suspicion of non payment/ theft or something else).

Most likely manager of the department (customer service) had asked the staff to reprint receipts (especially if all team members in that store are printing the receipts again, or it's not just limited to you personally)

              • @USER DC: This happened to me today , I bought two $500 eftpos gift card $1015.90 and as it’s over $1000 she had to ask manager to come and give authorisation and manager came and asked for a extra copy of receipts after I paid. I said why did she take the copy and the staff said I don’t know.

                • @FujiFruit: The copy of receipt was a strange request. My stores limit was $2000 before store manager approval. She wasn’t there so I ended up making it 1500 plus the fee and got through. Oh after counselling from another manager to see if I was getting scammed.

                • @FujiFruit:

                  staff said I don’t know

Clear indication on the fact she's just following her rules given to her by her manager/supervisor dude IMO.

    • To answer the other bits and pieces not already addressed:

      • I'm not aware of any limit for splitting payments at Woolworths. I've previously used 5 prepaid gift cards to pay for a gift card at Woolworths with zero issues, and I think my record at Coles is 13.

      • I generally find that staff don't really pay attention to the payment methods you are using when purchasing gift cards at a self-serviced checkout at Woolworths, unless you're the only customer at the self-serviced checkout. If you trigger the Items Not Allowed error (which isn't triggered when using Westfield EFTPOS gift cards, Vanilla Visa gift cards, or Coles Gift Mastercards as a payment method), staff will think you're trying to use a Woolworths Group gift card as a payment method and they may become more interested in what you're trying to do.

      • To correct the previous reply to your comment, I think the only circumstance where you can split payments for the purchase of a gift card at Coles is if you use cash to pay off part of the amount due, then use a card to pay for the rest of the amount due. However, no one would really want to do this…

      • Is there any limit on the value of the split cards you can use .
I have XXX gift cards below $1 that I couldn't be bother with lying around .

        • +4

          I don't think so.

I once redeemed 2c from a prepaid gift card when purchasing a gift card, and Woolworths allowed it.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: My lowest is 1c lol

            • +3

@R n b: yup mine too, funnily enough if you are buying something for like e.g. $1.95 and you do split payment of $1.93. the system wont ask you to pay remaining 2 cents. because you cannot pay 2 cents in cash.

      • +1

Have done 26 Coles MC cards at woolies to purchase another giftcard before. The receipt at the end took a while to print.

  • i know its been discussed before. but not explicitly on this.

has anyone actually been able to successfully buy apple store gift cards (from woolies when the 20x points is on) or TCN gift cards (from woolies when its 10% off) using the eftpos gift cards?

Just want to make sure before splurging couple thousand on these cards.

and yes i work at woolies, but i aint sure so want to know if anyone knows

    • +1

Someone was able to use the “older” Perfect EFTOPS gift cards back in Sep 2021 to purchase Apple gift cards at Woolworths, but who knows whether it still works now. I also have not seen anyone say they could use the “newer” Perfect EFTPOS gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at Woolworths.

I have not seen any commentary on whether you can use “older” or “newer” Perfect EFTPOS gift cards to purchase TCN gift cards at Woolworths.

If you work within a store and have a colleague who is operating a checkout and is happy to help you, you could grab an Apple gift card, TCN gift card and a Perfect EFTPOS gift card from the shelf, and do two “test” separate transactions:

      1. Scan an Apple gift card, go the payment screen, select Card and then swipe the Perfect EFTPOS gift card.
      2. Scan a TCN gift card, go the payment screen, select Card and then swipe the Perfect EFTPOS gift card.

If Woolworths will not let you to use a Perfect EFTPOS gift card to purchase an item, as soon as you swipe it, you’ll get an error message. You won’t have a chance to enter to select Savings or Cheque or enter a PIN.

If Woolworths will let you use a Perfect EFTPOS gift card to purchase an item, as soon as you swipe it, you’ll be asked to select Savings or Cheque.

Just let you know, I successfully used my westfield eftpos gift card to buy this the perfect eftpos gift card $500 , which I bought from Woolworth last month promotion.

    • +1

There's currently no restrictions on how you can use Westfield EFTPOS gift cards at Woolworths. I was able to use a Westfield EFTPOS gift card to purchase another Westfield EFTPOS gift card at Woolworths during that promotion last month with zero issues (which surprised me).

      • +2

Wow, I didn’t know that. Last time I tried to use theperfect eftpos card to buy the perfect eftpos card and it was rejected. So I assumed we can not use any prepaid visa/MC/eftpos to buy any of the gift cards….especially prepaid eftpos/visa/MasterCard. Anyway thank you for letting us know.

      • I got the Westfield one and bought the fast food cards. Worked out to be 14% back in points. They work in the MyMaccas app so also get the discounts there. We are Macca’s junkies unfortunately.

        • Good to know fast food cards can be used in the MyMacca's app!

  • +1

This is 3.4% off when using the $500 Perfect Gift Card.

I bought with credit card and got point.
I then used it at Coles and got points.
I also used it at the post office to pay a bill with split payment, 2 gift cards.
Easier to use as its $500 so it doesn’t run out every 5 minutes. (Debatable)

Considering some of my shopping items have gone up 20% anything I can claw back is a bonus.

    • Oh and Woolies had a $2000 limit, so the manager had to come and ask if I was being scammed. Then they still couldn’t override it so I had to just get $1500 worth.

  • Got one but now see the receipt suggests Rewards card was not added even though the terminal registered it at the time. Can you claim online with receipt and bonus points will be applied?

    • +2

That's interesting, because that also happened to a family member of mine yesterday.

You can raise a missing points claim, but Everyday Rewards' usual rules stipulate that if you “forget” to scan your Everyday Rewards card, they only reward missing points as a goodwill gesture and reserve the right to not award any points.

I suggest you either call or live chat with Everyday Rewards team and explain the situation. They should be nice enough to manually credit the points in your situation.

  • Is there a limit to how many bonus points you can earn in the week? I can get 10 cards per day with 1000 on each card so 100,000 rewards points per day. If you did that every day you would end up with a lot of reward points. There does not seem to be anything in the terms and conditions.

    • +1

Is there a limit to how many bonus points you can earn in the week?

No. Woolworths does not enforce caps on the total number of points you can earn (or the total number of gift cards you can purchase) during a gift card promotion.

I can get 10 cards per day with 1000 on each card so 100,000 rewards points per day. If you did that every day you would end up with a lot of reward points.

      Two problems:

      • The highest amount you can load onto a single EFTPOS gift card is $500.

      • I would be completely surprised if a store manager allowed $5,000 or $10,000 worth of gift cards to be sold in a single transaction. Fraud and scams and money laundering are very real (if probably infrequent) problems retailers selling gift cards have to deal with, and a $5,000 transaction (let alone a $10,000 transaction) is so unusual that it would set off red flags galore. Even if you politely point out the fact that you’ll earn $250 worth of Everyday Rewards in the process, they won’t really excuse the fact that you’re spending $5,000 in gift cards in one transaction.

You’re honestly better off buying EFTPOS gift cards across multiple transactions, because multiple transactions in a single day should be fine. For example, I purchased 1x $500 EFTPOS gift card at one Woolworths on Wednesday, and then I purchased 1x $500 EFTPOS gift card at another Woolworths later the same day, and I received 5,000 bonus points for each transaction.

      • Thought the terms and conditions said only 1 transaction per day allowed. I'm guessing they're not enforcing that?

        • +1

Yep, they seem to be not enforcing it.

  • Anyone knows the maximum amount allowed per transaction before triggering the manager to approve the transaction?

    • Should be $999.99, $1000+ triggers manager approval as customer details are required to provide a legal tax invoice.

    • I purchased $2000 and triggered manager. Took one off and got through at $1500 plus fee.

      • Seems like you might have found a loophole, although how did you take one off considering the system would lock itself once manager approval is needed.

        • Never mind, seems like that transaction mightve been done on an old terminal that hasn't been updated yet.
Seems like the new limit is $2000 and woolies have patched the interface to make a compliant invoice optional.
Although EFTPOS transactions over $1000 now need assistant approval.

          • @Trance N Dance: Sorry I was at an assisted checkout. The time one got taken off I had all the staff there. Two managers but no store manager. Apparently their level of security couldn’t let me buy the 2000plus but when one was taken off it worked. I then bought $1500 another day and it worked with no issues.

  • +1

Very weird thing happened today, first time no activation fee was charged for 4 out of 5*$500 cards plus 25000 ER points, Saved almost $28 dollars extra, Never happened before as I bought so many different cards before like coles MC, vanilla, eftpos, only1 etc.

    • +1

Sounds like a glitch in the matrix!

    • which woolies?

      • Tea tree plaza, SA

  • Can I use Rewards Dollars to part pay the purchase of this eftpos gift card?

    • +1

      Probably not.

      • If you do not use Everyday Pay, there is currently no known way of doing this.1 When you go to the payment screen and you’re purchasing a gift card, there is no option for redeeming Everyday Rewards Dollars.

      • If you use Everyday Pay, I have no idea.

      1. There actually used to be a loophole where if your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance was close or at the limit (currently $4,000) and you were purchasing a gift card that would earn enough bonus Everyday Rewards Dollars to push your balance over the limit, the checkout would automatically redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars to cover the full cost of the transaction. However, it looks like Everyday Rewards have patched this and may not award any points if your gift card purchase pushes your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance over its limit.

      • +1

        What is everyday pay???

        • +1

A new payment method currently being trialled at Woolworths.

You can request to join the Everyday Pay trial, but the emails I have sent requesting to be part of the trial have either bounced or were never acknowledged. Everyday Rewards customer service reps seem to be pretty clueless about Everyday Pay too, so good luck if you want to join the trial!

If you’ve wondered why the self-service checkouts at your local store have a QR code on the welcome screen, now you know.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Is there anyway like loophole, buying giftcards or anything we can use everyday dollars (eg flybuys dollars can be used to buy any gift cards at kmart/target) except Woolworth Group normal shopping eg Woolies, bws, big w, Woolies fuel etc as i have more than $3000 rewards to use???

            • @R n b: Ok wow, I didn’t realise you had that many Everyday Rewards Dollars!

Uhhh I really don’t know any loopholes you could leverage for Everyday Rewards if you want to purchase gift cards or mobile phone recharges or SIM cards or other forbidden purchases (besides potential loopholes with Everyday Pay, but I’m not aware if it has any). Woolworths Group seems to have thoroughly locked down its POS systems in recent times…

You could buy something from BIG W using Everyday Rewards Dollars as a payment method (as well as using a debit/credit card to pay any remainder), then leverage BIG W’s generous returns policy and see how the staff at the service desk process the refund.

In my experiences in-store, staff will either process the refund for redeemed Everyday Rewards Dollars to any debit/credit card also used in the transaction, or cash. I’ve never had redeemed Everyday Rewards Dollars returned onto a gift card (e.g. a Returns gift card (only redeemable at Woolworths and BIG W) or a WISH gift card), but that is also a possibility, especially if staff opt to change the refund tender (which is within their power to do so).

The last option (and probably the worst option) is to transfer all the points to your Qantas membership and then use those Qantas points to redeem gift cards on the Qantas Rewards Store.

To illustrate how “wasteful” this approach is, if you opt for a $100 Apple gift card from the Qantas Rewards Store, you’ll need 20,690 Qantas points, which is equivalent to 41,380 Everyday Rewards points. If we use the 2000 Everyday Rewards points = $10 rule of thumb, those 41,380 Everyday Rewards points are actually worth $206.90. Even if you take advantage of Qantas’ infrequent gift card “sales”, you’re still losing potential value of the Qantas points if you’re simply redeeming it for gift cards.

If you have a use for Qantas points for other than gift cards (e.g. reward seat redemptions, flight upgrades), you’ll likely get much better value out of your Qantas points, so that is something to keep in mind.

If you decide to go down (or fly?!?) the Qantas route, you’ll need to keep in mind that you cannot do manual transfers of Everyday Rewards points to Qantas points. That means that if you switch your redemption option to Qantas points, you’ll end up automatically converting all $3000+ currently in Everyday Rewards Dollars into 300,000+ Qantas points. If you do this, hopefully you have the correct Qantas Frequent Flyer account associated with your Everyday Rewards account…

  • Went to buy 5 X $500 eftpos cards. Was told by store manager that his store has a maximum of $500 off gift card per day per person. It was a bit annoying. Next time I will go through the self service but the terms do state only one transaction allowed per rewards account.

    • +1

Was told by store manager that his store has a maximum of $500 off gift card per day per person. It was a bit annoying.

Yeah, it’s annoying, but some store managers are more inclined to crack down on high-value gift card sales than others. People falling victim to gift card scams is still a major problem, as evidenced by the fact an elderly person went to my local Woolworths (and Coles) and bought $5,000 worth of gift cards across multiple transactions across multiple days.

It could also be the store manager’s attempt to ration gift cards, as the variable load EFTPOS gift cards are the only desirable gift cards in this deal, and stock has been non-existent at most of the Woolworths stores I’ve visited during this deal.

Next time I will go through the self service but the terms do state only one transaction allowed per rewards account.

I purchased 1x $500 EFTPOS gift card at one Woolworths on Wednesday, and then I purchased 1x $500 EFTPOS gift card at another Woolworths later the same day, and I received 5,000 bonus points for each transaction.

Whether or not Everyday Rewards would reverse the second lot of 5,000 bonus points awarded to me is a different question (because they reserve the right to do that), but I really doubt they would do that.

  • I got targeted a "x5 bonus points booster on all purchases". I understand normally these point boosters don't include gift card purchases etc, but in this instance you're already earning 5k points for a $500 eftpos card.

Would I get 25k points or only 5k in this instance?

    • +1

      5k. I tried it yesterday.

      • Ah that sucks. Thanks for being the lab rat
