Some tcn is 40% off points. Is it better than 15% off coles?

  • +11

Potentially good if you have loads of points you don't intend to use for anything else.

For most applications 1 frequent flyer point = approx. 1c value though, so even with the discounts, looking at price this way makes it less appealing.

  • I remember once it was 50%, wasn't it? early this year.

    • No way, Qantas has been bleeding cash since march last year, it was only the jobkeeper money that got poured over them that keep their stock from crashing.

      • +10

stock.. like.. shares? who cares about that, how is that related to this deal.

        • -2

Qantas can't afford 50% off points due to business/ COVID-19 context. Only afloat due to government support and jobseeker investing in share. Are they still paying dividends?

        • +8

Ask the Ansett frequent flyers how these things are directly connected.

          • +2

@mskeggs: I had a friend back in the day who kind of air-taskered signing up people to Ansett FF to get bonus points. He managed to get enough signups to get over 1 million points. And with almost exquisite timing, they then went broke and he lost it all. Felt for him.

          • +1

@mskeggs: You just showed your age :-)

            It still hurts.

      • +5

they’re bleeding tax payers’ money mainly lol, through covid job keeper scheme, along with Crown, HN, etc

    Apple gift card 40% off?

    • +3

The website clearly states: 20% off Apple digital gift cards

  • +1
    • +4

yeah, the catch is that QFF points used for these purposes are next to worthless. So 20% off something that's inflated isn't that great.

      • I presume you mean that QFF points are in-fact too valuable for these purposes?

        • Generally stores like this reduce the value of your points.

EG: You can use ANZ Rewards points to get an $800 GC with their recent promo.

OR you can use those same 180000 points to clear money off your statement at 1250 points per $5. that only equates to $720 worth of value.

The stores are even worse. I've seen Dysons on there that are point equivalents of more than 30% RRP.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: Yep agree, you really got to look closely at these sort of deals. ANZ rewards was worth more redeeming GC than statment credits.

Originally signed up for the CC for GC anyway.

You typically earn one Coles Flybuy or Woolworths Rewards points for each dollar you spend, and once you have 2,000 of those points you can convert them into 870 Velocity or Qantas Points. Yet, you can get $10 with 2,000 pts. but Woolworths Group WISH Digital Gift Card 20,730 PTS or 16,580 for $100
    PTS

    • Huh? Are you saying it’s bad value?

      • +41

        Yes.

Everyday rewards points = $10 off your shop per 2,000 points, or 1,000 QFF points. Ergo, 1,000 QFF costs around 1 cent per point when valued this way.

If you converted your everyday rewards points to QFF, and then bought a wish gift card, it would cost you 16,580 QFF points for $100, which cost you 33,160 everyday rewards points. 33,160 rewards points could have got you $160 off your Woolworths shop.

    • So if you convert 2000pts/$10 in qantas pts (=1000pts) and then try to convert back to wow gc with that 40% off, you would end up with $6 credit?

  • +10

40% is decent for those that they can't or they don't want to use classic rewards. Value 0.875 cents per point.
The only two available with 40% discount seems to be:

    • Shame the 40% off is basically only for clothing stores.

  • +5

interesting example 762 000 for $5000 worth of merchandise
or that would normally also be two return flights in business from melbourne to paris…
i'll keep my points for travel

    • +2

With the same amount of points you can even book 2 x oneworld RTW tickets in business at 318000 points each and still have points to spare.

      • +1

This, has been for many, the only reason to accumulate massive points. I too am waiting for the time to actually use this perk.

        • How easy is it to book such a flight though? I have the points needed but I can imagine actually getting it is a whole ordeal.

          • +2

@Smol Cat: It is definitely not easy and will take you hours of searching, but it is very possible if you have some flexibility as I have made it work for me twice now.

          • +1

@Smol Cat: It takes a bit of work to find, and you have to basically be booking 12 months out, when the fares are first released.

  • I'm unlikely to be able to spend my points on flights as I'm emigrating back to the UK next year and don't have enough points to use with Qantas but do with Virgin (using Etihad). So is this as good as it's going to get if I'm looking to liquidate the points on something other than flights or do I have better options? I have about 100k

    • +2

you can use it on BA (Aer Lingus, Iberia, etc) flights in the UK.

      • I didn't realise that! So as long as they don't expire I'll be able to use them in the UK but still booking through the Qantas website?

        • Correct!

        • +1

If you have Qantas points you must use the Qantas website to use them and book on whatever carrier they offer. Eg BA or Cathay etc

    • +1

make sure you connect to your watch or something to keep earning points otherwise 18 months without earning = losing it all

  • i have a ton of qantas points, but i usually save for flights or 5 star hotels.

what is the cash equivalent per point? 1 point = 1 cent?

the $200 apple gift card is 33,060 points. so really its going to cost $330.60? i rather just buy it at woolies and get the bonus points then convert them to qantas points.

    • +1

Rewards points from woolies to Qantas not great. Example- 2000 Rewards points $10. But qantas you get 1000 points and have to spend 16000 points to get 100 voucher.
Qantas points should be used only for flight booking unless any great deal on qantas store or 40-50% sale makes better deal.
This deal looks not great according to me

      • ok, that's is what i thought. im just going to get it from woolies. thank you.

      • I thought getting an iPh 13 pro max would be worthwhile if there's a 20% discount on points. Since not using the pts for flight or hotel.

I never think too much about how spending these pts to be worth every penny spent to earn QFF pts.
Since just this year alone I have had bonus pts over 200k QFF pts from 3 major credit cards.

Nearly a new year and another round of bonus pts are lining up again.

    • +3
  • +1

Would have considered JB at 40% but 20% not even close to worth it. I'll keep my QFF points today

    • Damn, me too. Would've used it to get a pixel 6!

  • +1

Still pretty crap value. I'm currently looking for a mower, so I could use a Bunnings gift card.

I can get Bunnings gift cards normally for 4% off, so a $100 gift card would normally cost me $96.

$100 gift card will set you back 18,530 QFF points with this promo. So, that would save me $96 for the cost of 18,530 points, or 0.52c per point. E.g. Still rubbish value.

    • +2

use prezze promotion deal and get 10$ voucher for 200$ voucher. I think promotion deal still open. This is not good deal unless its 40-50% off

  • Just pulled the trigger. Thought the digital gift card will get delivered instantly. But that doesn't seem to be the case

  • +1

that's a bit of a waste of qff points especially given they don't expire with minimal effort. if you don't fly just keep it for when you do

  • Is this as good as it gets for gift cards using QFF?

  • Bought $1000 of the SHOP gift card. ty :D

  • With over 2 million in qantas points, I am tempted to get rid of some of my points on this deal

    • I'd be sweating if I held that many points

  • last time i spent FF PTS on gift cards during a 2017 gift card discount i got;

    $100 for 14,544 PTS & $250 for 36,360 PTS on jb/myer cards.

40% is only for TCN Active, which is solely clothes/shoes ie. useless… 20% best discount for anything usable like TCN Physical/Home with JB/TGG etc, and thats only down to $100 for 15,200 PTS

Not all that great, unless you're being specific or flush in points or despo to cash em out for some reason…

    • +2

I bet you'll see the QFF pts depreciate in time. Nearly every time there's a deal or about to swap pts for GC, it cost more and more QFF pts…

still got records from all these years for every GC swapped… and every time I would think why not I swapped more last time… lol

  • +1

this is such poor value. Equates to 0.5/6ccp when people paying 0.8/9ccp cash!
Just sell it for cash - almost double the gift cards and buy what you want

  • +1

Almost all of the comments are saying this is poor value but this deal is still getting lots of upvotes. Hmmmm….

    • Our brains like to think 20-40% is always a good thing…..and to top it all the punch line is "Seems like a good deal" This is not a good deal for those trying to find value….if you like to put some use of your QFF points then go ahead.

    • People seem to be valuing Qantas points based on their primary earning way, or current requirements. It's all relative.
I think it's a good deal but I'd rather spend mine on cheaper flights.

  • Can't seem to buy the online card, anyone facing the same issue?

    • Put in the email address first and your add to cart should turn red and you’d be able to order

  • I think 20% off Apple gift cards combined with the EDU store pricing is probably the best for these products if you are looking to burn excess QF points - compared to 20% off apple products that QF redemption store has ran a few times in the past.
Although the JB gift cards are priced better with 20% off compared to the Apple gift cards in the store.

  • Anyone opted in to auto-rewards? I have 2 x Woolworth e-gift cards issued and in May and November this year, but when I go to the link to download, it just reloads the page. I’ve tried my phone and PC with different browsers but have the same issue. I’ve contacted support over a week ago but no reply. Anyone else having the same issue?

  • Great

  • Just recieved a phone call from 02 9233 0600 apparently the number of QFF wanting to verify my order, sounded a bit scammy at first and asked for personal details but seemed legit at the end. FYI, they had to do it to approve the gift cards? stupid practice.
