ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa: Bonus 160,000 Qantas Points & $225 Back ($3,000 Spend in 3 Months, $425 Fee) - ANZ Customers Only

4880

Deal link goes to public product page because I couldn't work out how to submit this deal without a link - look at description or screenshot

Found this huge Qantas Points offer in the ANZ app a couple of days ago:

An exclusive offer to ANZ customers only.
Earn 160,000 bonus Qantas Points and $225 back to your new card when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. New card. T&Cs, >eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including an Annual Fee, currently $425). Screenshot

You can get to this offer via ANZ Internet Banking in browser, or in the ANZ App.

If you aren't an ANZ customer: I mentioned this offer to a friend who then opened a transaction account and was able to immediately see the offer in their new internet banking and apply for the card. The basic ANZ transaction account is $5 a month, which you can get waived if you deposit $2k into the account each month (doesn't need to stay in the account). You could close the account once you get your bonus points (possibly once you get the card?)

Aside from this massive number of bonus points, card features are:

  • Earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $7,500 per statement period
  • A higher Qantas Points earn rate compared to all other ANZ Frequent Flyer cards
  • Uncapped Qantas Points
  • Complimentary Frequent Flyer Membership and a discount on a 1 year Qantas Club membership
  • Two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year
  • Complimentary insurances including International Travel Insurance
  • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases

You can see the general details of the card (at it's usual lower offer value) here

I think this might be the highest consumer bonus points offer available at the moment, I certainly haven't seen any higher recently.

If you haven't earned Qantas Points from a credit card in the past 12 months, you may be able to stack with the New Cardholder Bonus of 20,000 points (from Qantas). The ANZ Black card is listed on the relevant page, and it doesn't specify that you have to click through the Qantas page to get the offer, but I haven't tried! The New Cardholder Bonus from Qantas ends on March 31 (there's no end date listed for the ANZ card offer).

Edit: Clarified end date in post applies to 20k top-up offer, not 160k sign-up offer.

Update: Got an email asking for income verification. Look forward to completing verification some time in 2026 and eventually being able to get the card.

    • Same here

    • lol same. Ah here we go again with ANZ's amazing processing centers

    • Same, no email. Been 2hrs now.

    • I applied last night and didn’t get an email. I ended up getting an email this afternoon which was, unfortunately, for a rejection (probably because I filled out the section about my other credit card wrongly, will call them to see the reason why)

    • No email yet…. Applied late last night….

    • Got the email today, sent through payslips, approved later this evening :)

    • If has happened with me before.

Your application is lost and you will need to re-apply.

On a positive note, I was existing customer with home loan and transaction account with ANZ. I raised internal complaint and got credited $1000.

After receiving points, I linked my card with breakfree package and they provided refund on full fee. Overall it was a good win.

      • How did you do this? I called and they said they have no record of my submission even though I got to the final submission confirmation. I didn't save my reference number so they don't know why it never got into their system.

        • I applied 2nd time and got $1000 extra credit. That's said, I did save screenshot for 1st application following lodgement so I had evidence to support my complaint.

  • Anyone with a surname of more than 15 characters, you're excluded from this promo…

  • Any reason Access Basic account (https://www.anz.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/everyday-accou…) wouldn't work?
There is no monthly fee. Saves people from depositing the $2K

    • +1

for Concession and Health Care card holders.

  • This is an awesome deal….. I just completed the NAB Champagne Mile QFF card process today, should I roll the dice and go another Credit Card application, that also needs another bank account as well :) :) :)

Do most Ozbargainers have one or more QFF's Credit cards at a time? General question.

  • Why do I keep getting an error saying "details unavailable, We can't retrieve your details right now" every time trying to login as an existing customer in order to sign up. Anyone has experienced this before? Was on a phone with ANZ for hours and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.

  • does anyone know when this offer will end?
    Thanks

    • ANZ seem to never include expiry dates on their offers, unfortunately.

    • want to know also, will need to wait a bit to apply as most my bills come after june 30

  • Silly question, does anyone know when points are actually credited? Is it right after the 3K are spent, or after the 3 months initial period (and having spent 3k)?

    • +2

usually 2nd statement after you reach the spend, based on my experience

  • +1

https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/choosing-the-ri… direct link if anyone wanna take a shot.
(select Qantas Points -> The full amount)

    • Don't think anybody should bother, the terms in that link:
"Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Offer only available to existing ANZ customers who apply via ANZ internet banking or the ANZ app."

  • Lol just got auto rejected although I'm well above their minimum criteria.

I think it's because in the credit card monthly repayment section for my other cards I put my credit limit because I pay my bill in full every month?

    • +1

I always put 0 in "Total amount owing" and for "Total monthly repayments" you should put 0 as well IMO, as there are no repayments, you just pay the whole balance by the due date. You should probably call them and explain.

    • +1

I got rejected as well. I put my “Total amount owing” as my current balance and “total monthly repayments” as my last payment amount… I am calling them now to check if that was the reason for the rejection.

    • +4

Call them back and they can assist you. That happened to me twice, talked about what happened. Bam, approved me twice.

      • Thanks, am on hold. There's only so much Beatles music I can handle!

EDIT: Called and they fixed it up, all good. But the call centre was sketchy, could hear something like pots and pans clanking in the background?

        • +1

Maybe the person who took your call was working from home? I think a lot of them do nowadays

      • Confirming that this works :). I called them and explained that I pay my credit card in full, and they updated my applications and confirmed that it’s been approved.

    • yes if you put 15,000 a month you will likely get rejected.

  • Does anyone know if paying your council rates counts towards the spending requirement?

    • +2

      generally, whatever accrues points counts

  • Great timing.
Just cancelled the NAB card last month.

    • Did you already get your points? They didn't add my QFF until I called them after my first statement. Got my 2nd now and got my 1 point per dollar spent for both 1st and 2nd months but not my 100k points yet.

      • I spent the required amount in a few days, got a partial refund for the card fee I paid and also 100k points in my Qantas account after the first statement :)

      • +1

Same experience as tabboy. The partial card fee refund made me feel a little guilty…..not.

      • Same here, no 100k points after 2 statements. Rang them up, they said to wait for the 3rd statement.

  • +1

Does anyone know or have experience if ANZ would waive an additional card fee ($65)? Only need 1 extra

    • During the application it asks if you want to add an additional card holder, I didn't even think of a fee and didn't see it mentioned in the application process, but I assume its buried in the PDF so if I'm approved I'll just cop that…

  • If you have a partner do you just put your share of the expenses as everything is generally split 50/50?

    • Yes, that’s what I did and my application was approved.

  • How does one get the 180k? 160 + 60?
i signed up with ANZ. Should I have done so via Qantas?
    Chur

    • Someone needs to go back to math lessons… Just follow the instructions here to get an additional 20k

  • Bit odd, it shows 160k then i clicked on learn more, it changes to 130k. Time to cancel my Citi Prestige. Just not worth the fees.

    • +2

I had the same issue, had to turn off adblockers.

  • Turned off adblockers and yet when I click on Learn More on the products and rewards section where this card is in, it says the card only gives out 100k pts +30k if maintained for 12 months. Does this mean the deal is off? Or am I doing something wrong?

    • Try a different browser, Brave didn't work for me but vanilla Edge did

      • Thanks! Ended up finding the deal in Chrome but had to find the deal another way

    • Did the same thing for me, even tried another browser.
Opened it up on my phone and there it was.

  • I applied for it yesterday, got a reference number when I submitted. but received 0 email confirmation from ANZ for applying for the card. Is this normal?

    • They sent me an income verification email about 6 hours after sign-up. Not sure if it's a good or bad thing that you didn't receive that?

    • When I applied for the Platinum card back in December, the same thing happened to me.

I called them up 2 days later (got no emails at all), and turned out the application got auto-approved without any documents provided, because they could see my weekly salary deposits (into an ANZ account), and this was matched during the application.

Give them a call on 13 33 33 and check the status

      • Did they send the card to you without the email ever coming? Hope this is the case for me since I didn't get a confirmation but am already on their systems

        • Yeah, no email whatsoever. Just got told on the phone that it got approved on xx date (which was the date I applied)

  • I put my application in for this card like 2 days ago. ARGHHH!

It hasn't been approved yet, so created an ANZ savings account, and seeing if I can switch, or apply again.

  • Should you have closed your card before applying a card with 15k limit? Cause I already have a card with a high limit already.

    • Personally, I would only have 1 card with 15k limit, the rests are 6k

      • Hmm so if I already have a 15k card its not advisable to apply for another with min 15k limit, will have to close one first right?

        • Depends on your total available credit limit (or whatever the correct term is called). The very first ANZ card I applied for, I foolishly ticked the box allowing them to set the card limit for me. Next minute I’m approved with a $45K credit card. Whoops, there goes all my available credit in one card.
You can have multiple 15K cards depending on your financial situation.

          • @muncan: Oh thats a good problem because you can always reduce the limit without incurring a credit check

  • +1

ANZ are so bad at approvals, makes me wonder if it's worth opening a bank account with them tbh.

    • +1

Ive found them to be the quickest, only the very first time took too long and had to call back a number to confirm financial details etc

  • Thanks op. I got apprved within 2 hours lol

    • They didn't like my payslips, unfortunately mine have the name on the outside and details inside.

I even went in-store and the manage scanned and they still complained, until they just approved it!

      • +3

Hi we can see your name on your application is William but your payslip says Will, can you explain this?

        Explain it 3 times…

Okay, can you send a payslip with your William name then?

        FFS…

    • Interesting. I applied on Monday night, submitted my payslips, and still haven’t heard anything yet… Does anyone know if that’s normal?

      • +1

They took two business days to come back to me, to tell me I havent submitted the documents, - despite a screenshot showing I had. So i've just submitted them again, and the waiting game begins all over. So sounds like your situation is normal.

        • +1

Cheers. I actually just got the approval a couple of hours ago so hopefully yours goes through soon!

  • +2

Applied yesterday morning, approved today. Thanks op.

    • +1

      Same, so unlike ANZ :-)

    • +1

applied yesterday midday. application email received last night. requested documents emailed to ANZ this morning. just got approval this afternoon. pretty quick and efficient.

    • Same, uploaded payslips and approved within a few hours :)

  • Can I link my wifes credit card to my qantas account? Or how to open free qantas account?

    • +1

I opened qantas account today and it was free, didn't know they actually charge for it.

I clicked through from this 'go to deal' and there's a box to login or sign up.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688273

      • Yes thanks. I have googled after I posted questions :)

    Applied today. Thanks Op.

  • Typical incompetent off-shore team…
Went through nightmare last time I applied for Westpac card.
I uploaded all my documents through their secure online portal the minute after I submitted the application yet I just got a missed call from them (the guy left a message and I could barely understand him) asking for the same documentation I uploaded.

    • I just had the same thing. Infuriating.

      • Yet to top Westpac still. They even managed to mix up my credit records with someone else's. I had credit cards and loan against my name that was completely unknown to me and they left it with me to contact the financial institutions that I supposedly had credit with according to their dodgy record and obtain letter confirming that there is no liability under my name.

After a few weeks, all they did is to send me a letter confirming they have corrected their records. No apologies whatsoever not to mention it's a massive breach of privacy for them to release someone else's finanicl records to me!

        • just wow, you are a patient person.

  • +1

Lmaoo I cannot believe that ANZ thinks this overseas team is a good idea.

The calling team can barely speak English and stuff up simple tasks like telling me the correct email to send documents to all the time.

They asked for extra payslips which I uploaded but someone called again to ask for more payslips:

I HAVE NOW UPLOADED SEVEN (7!) Payslips and I'm a public government employee with a min salary of 100k.

    SEVEN COC*SUCKING PAYSLIPS LMAO

    • -1

      Why?
I uploaded just one payslip. Approved within a few hours.
If your payslips don't have a YTD column (and most should) you could ask your payroll team to provide.

      • +1

Just because you had a smooth experience doesn't mean others will. Is that a surprise? What makes you think his payslips was the issue? Lol

      • Haha can confirm payslip has YTD as well as a complete breakdown of my annual wage in each payslip.

Their answer was "because you have had overtime". Despite my pre-overtime pay being above their minimum threshold.

Again, I think the person checking the payslips literally lacks the understanding/capability to be able to adequately read the payslip, hence the need to send SEVEN lol.

        • I got a feeling it is seven because most public servants get paid fortnightly.
When i said my pay was monthly, they only asked for 3 latest payslips which covers 3 months.

With 7 payslips being fortnightly each, it equals just over 3 months worth of payslips.

          • @lplau: Fine but I am a regular churner and have never been asked to submit more than 3 given the annual and YTD totals are on each payslip

    • +1

Unfortunately that is the reality these days. Hiring people who can barely communicate properly with their customers..

No idea why they even have the upload facility if nobody is even going to check there for documents before wasting applicant's time.

      • They don't hire people, they outsource to call center farms and then give them scripts and dialogue. Its similar to a old school RPG game, if this happens, then do this etc.

I've worked in companies which did this, and often it costs them 1 tenth of the cost of 1 person in Australia.

        • Outsourcing is also a form of hiring.
Everyone knows most companies outsource call centres to developing countries like India and the Philippines. You don't have to have worked somewhere to know this. Not that I haven't worked somewhere that did this. I actually went to India to handover the tasks that used to be done onshore

    • ANZ thinks a overseas team is a good idea, because it costs one tenths of the cost. E.g. they can get 10 people overseas for the price of 1 person in Australia.

So when they think of it and do the calculations, they see themselves still being ahead. Yes they lose customers due to lower customer service, however that 1 person in Australia can also lose customers as they can also provide poor customer Service. So as long as the performance overall between those 10 people vs the 1 person in Australia is still beneficial, then they will continue to use an offshore team.

      • This is true for menial and repetitive tasks but anything where they need to be able to think or troubleshoot and go off of script is a recipe for disaster. Save $1 today to spend $4 tomorrow fixing the mess.

  • +1

I got the dreaded overseas application team call, asking me about my YTD pay, he's done the numbers and realised something doesn't add up. I'm a well paid IT contractor but paid by the day, I took 2 months off over Christmas to see my family after lockdown, he notes the unpaid leave. My YTD pay is still well over 6 digits, but he says "I haven't worked continuously for 3 months and as per the policy will have to withdraw my application"… I tell him I still work at the same job, just took time off… he told me to reapply when I've been working continuously for 3 months without a break. I told him I wouldn't bother reapplying, he apologised and that was that… what a joke.

Edit: just got the email, "as per your request, we've withdrawn your application" - not my idea ANZ, your idea, but I'll take it over a rejected application on my credit file…

    • -1

Note to anyone in the unusual same boat, lie and tell them your leave was more than 3 months ago…

    • +2

These people do not think and is incapable of dealing with unusual circumstances.
I recall a time when the company I worked for sold off an asset and the arrangement was made so that I get made redundant from my current employer and I get rehired by the new employer from day 1. They refused my credit application as I was only employed for few weeks. This was a highly publicised asset sale in the media too so it's not like they couldn't understand this arrangement. They could have checked my bank statement to see that I have always had income stream from my full time job but they couldn't care less

      • Its not that they are incapable of dealing with unusual circumstances.
Since it is a offshore call center or a call center and not ANZ staff, they have clear "runbooks" or scripts, and if it doesn't fit the script, they cannot deviate from it.

You can ask them to refer your case to a ANZ staff, and sometimes they will do it. But sadly they don't get given the power to "deviate".

        • That is exactly what I'm talking about.
Everyone knows how these call centres operate. It's not a trade secret lol
You talk as if it's your secret knowledge
They are given scripts because they don't have the knowledge or capable of making reliable decisions case by case

  • +1

Applied on 29th after 1am, approved by 30th arvo.
Basically they took one and half day to finalise the application.
Haven't had this kind of super fast response from ANZ ever before.
    Thanks OP for posting this.
