15% off Combined Home Building & Contents Insurance + 15% off for Online Purchase on Your First Year’s Premium @ Budget Direct

90

just received my home and contents renewal from another insurer- premium had increased 15%. (CBA)

I've never made a claim with them in the 3 years I was with them. so….adios.

anywho, did some comparing of insurance policies for home and contents.

best price - with what I require for H&C - was with budget direct with their 30% off.

note that this is for 1st year only.

anyway, premium was 12% less than what I was paying with my previous insurer - AND BD provides higher values of cover than previous insurer

and less expensive than all other quotes I had done.

can't see an expiry date for this offer.

always read the PDA to assess whether an insurance policy is most appropriate for you

  • I found this mob to be about 30% more than Honey. Even with this discount

    • yeah , just tried a quote through Honey -$220 per month

      BD -$163 per month,

      YMMV

    • I just got a quote through Honey after you posted this and it is almost twice the cost of Budget lol.

This one is probably more suited to the Forums but I actually thought that shopping insurance annually was a normal thing to do. I reckon I have received about $600 in Woolies giftcards over the years.

They used to be the best value and cheapest.
With all the awards and their marketing spend ever increasing, so have their premiums.
Switched all my accounts across to Woolies insurance as they were much cheaper.

It's unfortunate when companies focus on growth over customer retention and offering good value.
Reminds me of Aussie Broadband jacking their prices from $79 to $99 per month, time to jump ship.

If you do choose them, please make sure to price compare their renewal each year. If you call them and say that you are unhappy with the premium offered (renewal tax) and that its much cheaper elsewhere you can save hundreds of dollars each year from a 5 to 10 minute phone call. All insurers slug people that auto renew. Make sure to jump on some insurance comparison sites first. I've found the prices BD quote on compare the market (or other sites) for exactly the same policy to be much lower than the renewal.

    • If you do choose them, please make sure to price compare their renewal each year.

They rely on people being lazy and not comparing.

The increase in profits is greater than the loss of some customers…

If you want worthless insurance, then this is still overpriced

I had my car insured with them. I had an accident and they tried everything they could not to pay, the car was a write off, I had never claimed before and it was my first accident. They tried telling me my car had performance modifications as it had a tow bar, ute hard lid (both factory options) and same wheel size as factory but different wheel rims. Dragged on for weeks. Called me for multiple interviews, borderline harrassing me, trying to lead me to answers where they could deny my claim. It was a nightmare! I'm sure people have had good experiences but I certainly didn't. I would steer clear of them

  • with the floods thats been happening, premiums are increasing. none are actually offering in a lot of areas at the moment.

    • with the floods thats been happening, premiums are increasing.

Policies that don't include flood cover should not be impacted.

          Just your opinion, so irrelevant.

          I think they should…

    • and petrol?

    This isn't a bargain…

I found lots of other cheaper ones when I looked back in Jan.

      Which ones you found cheaper?

both 'car' and 'house & contents'

  • I seem to have noticed alot of insurers (incl. BD) give a low ball quote but when you go to buy and fill in more details, the amount jumps quite significantly. Happened with me in AAMI, BD and another I can't remember. Only Allianz' quote didn't jump for me and eventually came out cheapest amongst all.

Edit: all values exactly same (or comparable due to lack of available option) inluding excess, coverage, etc. etc.

  • I hate budget direct it took 1200 excess and 4 months time to fix a 1800$ repair with the low-quality finish and duplicate bumper parts. Whole point of the insurance is process the claims appropriately.

  • What’s the advice if you recently had a claim with 1 insurer and got work done

If you switch ,you lose all warranty of work done with previous insurer/builder right ?

Additionally if you get a quote emailed to you and wait 24-48 hours you should end up with a $60 giftcard offer as well. Giftcard given out after 21 day cooling off period.

    • When did this work last time? No gift card for me after 48 hours

  • I just got a quote from honey including flood and fire cover. $610 k building. $70k contents. $113 a month with $1000 excess. I added accidental damage and stuff for $20 a month. I think budget was $1700 a year with $520k building and $40k contents, with that discount.
