You can watch TV from the Fire TV Stick using IPTV … it does not have an aerial input for DTV.

      • What is IPTV and would I be able to do it?

      • I haven't done TV stuff in ages. I have a DTV with a vusted aerial slot, however my room does have an in-house aerial connection. I have a PS4 but I'm getting it fixed. Does a set top box need to be connected to the aerial of the TV?

    • +1

Foxtel Now Box has antenna input, so can tune free to air channels.
$29.99 for the Foxtel Box on Kogan

      • So I plug can plug the Foxtel box into the aerial socket in the wall and somehow plug the set top box into the TV without it needing to be in the aerial socket on the TV?

        • +1

Plug the Foxtel Box intro the HDMI port on the TV… assuming you have one.

          • @Tiggrrrrr: Thanks. I have a Firestick and Foxtel Now bought. Total $53 just for free to air, sounds like a lot but I'm sure i'll get something out of both

            • @bailbondsh: Do you have more than one tv?

The Foxtel Now box has FTA channels, and also Foxtel Now, Prime, Netflix, Stan, Disney, etc.

              • @Tiggrrrrr: I have Prime, but so does Firestick yeah? Thinking Foxtel box will just be my ability to watch free to air….

                • @bailbondsh: ok. Keep in mind you will need a FoxtelNow account to use the box.
Just open a trial account and cancel your subscription it the next day.
You'll still be able to watch FTA channels, as well as Netflix/Prime/etc.

                  • @Tiggrrrrr: Thanks mate. Internet streaming to TV is choppy. Even tonight i've got my computer plugged into the tv with the HDMI watching Kayo

      • I've got two foxtel boxes and they are pretty bad, always freezing and slow. Also casting is pretty trash

        • +1

Vodafone TV was the real deal

        • I have 2 also. One constantly overheats, and locks up.
The other has been rock solid.
Mind you I got them free so my expectations weren't high.

I suspect the quality control is somewhat absent.

  • Am looking for Max but missed upgrade offer. Waiting for another offer. I recently subscribed to Hotstar+Disney Plus India for 1599INR~28$/year (VPN + Wise Card used). Tried on pc with 4k output in browser but max streaming resolution stay 1080p. Tried on AVD but no L1 in emulators. Might work on Max or GoogleTV by sideloading app.

Is that Disney+ offer still available ? Do you need to watch through the VPN?

      • +1

Yes its available. Price is 1499INR for Premium which have 4k stream. I use VPN Unlimited and it work fine. I have lifetime subscription which i got last year during a deal. Costed me 14-15$ i guess. Also, You’ll need Indian phone number for registration. For payments you can use “Wise” app.
        Here’s link of subscription page.

        • Just checking it and its not just Disney+ you get. There’s HBO original library. GOT, True Detective, The Pacific, Band of brothers, Outsider, Chernobyl, Westworld, watchmen, Warriors, The wire and so much more. Totally great bargain.

    • does it work with Nvidia Shield Pro and NordVPN ?

      • Not sure mate. I shared what i know so far.

    no volume control

    • that's a good point

  • +2

The ability to sideload apps, throw on Kodi and Retroarch, for $23, makes this a steal. Complaints about it not being 4K or not having volume buttons, well there is a $99 version that caters for that. Also, the volume button issue becomes a moot point if you use your TV remote to control it.

    • Does the 1gb of Ram present any issues?

      • The Ram is fine for streaming apps and Kodi. I find it runs the basic emulators like SNES/NES/Sega MS/Sega MD/MAME smoothly. It's a mixed bag with 32 & 64 bit games but, people will find that's the case even with more powerful Android boxes. It's pretty good for $23-$24.

  • scored one, thanks OP.

  • I have the OG lite from a few years back and it’s cool the odd time it gets used but interestingly I get no audio when playing streaming apps through this cheap projector I have.

At first I assumed the projector lacked the HDCP requirements or whatever but then found when plugging an Xbox into it that audio worked fine

Anyways point is, does anyone know if this would work to play audio via streaming services and whatnot on that little projector thing?

Tbh I’ll probs just buy it and deal either way but like, if anyone is knowledgeable it would be appreciated, cheers!

  • Thanks, great deal, got one.

Prime Video recently added a Russian scifi movie called Sputnik, which is surprising because many businesses are cancelling anything even remotely Russian related, yet Amazon still put the movie up.

Anyway, watched it and it was good.

Can anyone confirm whether you can connect Bluetooth headphones to this?

      • Thanks, after Googling a bit, it looks like even this lite version should connect to Bluetooth headphones. Fingers crossed.

        • The remote is Bluetooth so yes you'll be able to pair headset too.

  • Also at Myer

  • I just sideloaded AirReceiver onto this and I'm able to cast most things onto. Only thing was I couldn't cast from google Chrome videos. Apart from that, pretty good for the price for an old TV in my study

  • For anyone with Google Pixel phones: Download Air Screen on the firestick and on your phone. This will enable you to screen mirror :-)

  • Only have 1GB memory, hopefully is smooth enough. But it's cheaper than a pi-zero w… lol…

  • Now showing on Amazon as Currently unavailable.
I thought the offer was on until the 30th April. :(

    • Well looks like they did run out of stock lol

  • Mine delivered today, what was really creepy was just after powering on the device it updated the software and recognised whose device it is and was already connected to my home wifi without me ever setting this on it.. Googled it and found this

    • Wow, how very interesting (and ingenious)

  • My Samsung TV and Dell monitor is not detected Fire TV stick without the HDMI extension adapter. It is normal or faulty? Also, I can't find many apps for the device itself. Any recommendation on what entertainment apps must have to install for adult and young kids?
