Just don't watch the ridiculous Sony ad for these. They're just earphones, no VR included 😂

I hate wearing in-ear earbuds because of the "blocked ear" feeling so pretty much the only options for me are airpods (non pro) or Galaxy Buds Live (which I currently have and love), and I'm really intrigued by these. Supposedly they feel like you're wearing nothing. Don't know if I'm $250 intrigued without being able to try them though.

edit: Just saw that on the jb listing for these they have a "14 Day Love them or Your Money Back" promotion going on, so I guess I'm not the only one with the concern haha. Might have to just give it a go.

    • it also push wax into your ear and can cause a ear infection.

      • +3

Anything that traps moisture can do this, including headphones/earbuds/inner ear buds.

        • +4

I beg to differ though. On- or around-ear headphones have far less chance of causing an ear infection via trapped moisture. Besides, there are open back headphones around if you are really concerned. We would have millions of worker claims around the globe from workers who wear headphones (and not ear buds) as part of their daily job, such as airline pilots, call centre workers, etc.

If you do return them you have to send them back to Sony, not take them back to JB Hifi btw. Read the terms and conditions and you have to return them in the original packaging (all of it, including the cardboard sleeve around the box) so if you buy them, do not throw away or damage the packaging! They will also refund you the cost price + $15 to cover shipping.

      • That makes sense, what with their prolific "Seconds" sales on ebay.

I think the 14 day love them or your moeny back is run by SONY and not JB. You might have to return it to Sony and wait for their refund.

That's same as me. I was really intrigued by this one until I saw that it doesn't support wireless charge.
That was a deal breaker for me :(

      Stupid sexy earbuds.

    • could try bose frames sunnies - with inbuilt speakers

Thanks OP! been waiting for this to drop in Australia for a long time. I checked 3 times today earlier and didn't find it.

Don't forget to apply JB Hi-FI 5% off giftcards. I got mine from AAMI lucky club. manually typed in the final price $254.99 to make sure the giftcard amount is exactly right for this purchase.

In my opinion, the RRP should be $249.0 here

    USD price is $179.99
    UK price is £149.00

    • +9

we got better consumer protection laws in Aus, more expensive staff to handle complaints and returns, and more expensive shipping to reach our shores. All cost companies more to sell stuff here.

Me personally exchanged my Bose QC30 5 times cause it kept failling within 1 year. So I won't complain too much about a small mark-up

      • why is shipping more expensive? we are way closer to china than the uk.

        • Yes but our volume would be a lot less so the cost of shipping individual units would be higher

    • +1

USD price would probably end up a bit higher than that because it doesn't include taxes which vary by location unlike our flat GST. And the UK price is higher with the current exchange rate.

We're definitely paying the "australia tax" on this one's RRP, though.

      USD price is $179.99

I am sure US stores usually show ex tax prices! In Aust, advertised prices must include GST.

      • In many US states they’re legally required to show it without tax, because Americans are crazy.

        • Reason is US has sales taxes at federal, different states vary their sales tax and it's even different at the county/council level.

Imagine if the suburb next to you had an additional 1.5% sales tax because local council required it.

Live in the wrong postcode and you pay more sales tax.

    • USD$179.99 + 10% sales tax = roughly USD$200, which currently equals ~AUD$265. Then you have to factor in all the other things like shipping them to australia and any other taxes and fees, and that they will sell probably 1/100th as many here as they do in the USA, you can see why they are RRP$320.

    • The RRP is 249. Sony had the RRP on their site as 319 for like a day, but is showing as 249 now.

  • very keen with this, the white one is only exclusively available on Sony website

    • They do price match, not sure how relaxed they are about being the exact same SKU. Worth a try I reckon.

I just wanted Sony earphones that wouldn't fall out from blinking, like my Sony wf1000xm3.

I thought I would be a Guinea Pig for once.

Thanks OP, been waiting for this.

I've been checking daily for these to come out, and they pop up here first, haha thanks!

Those key features on the JB listing are quite intriguing.

Same price on sony au website.

It wasn't at the time of the post.

I sent them a price match request via live chat. they came back in the afternoon matching only the black one and then 5 mins later the white one.

    • It changed to $249 about 8pm.

  • yeesssss!
I've been waiting for this for so long

  • Sony order page went missing now!

    • Was down for a bit. Now back up.

  • Thanks, have ordered, have seen these and have had interest in the concept.

  • Patiently waiting for my WF-1000XM3 headphones to die.

  • Now available on Sony ebay for the same price. Useful if you have eBay gift cards or eBay plus vouchers to use before they expire (e.g. the $40 voucher for signing up or $30 voucher to renew).

    • Stack with eBay shopback 15% cashback, capped $25, tonight 7-11pm (can't stack with discount voucher though). Net $224.

FYI, Sony Store has student/educator price of $191.97. A much more equitable price (especially for those using Alumni Uni accounts).

    • Link to the educator store?

      • +5

        it's the main store: https://store.sony.com.au/students
but create and sign in using a .edu email

        • The account verification via email isn't appearing in my .edu inbox unfortunately, is that a common occurrence?

          • @bydl: If I remember correctly - the EDU account I used had an aggressive anti-spam policy - it may be in spam, or perhaps Sony is just really slow at responding. It should arrive after a bit though.

    • Mine's showing as $224.10 as the student/educator price D:

      • Yes it seems to have gone up

        • aw man, would have definitely given them a go at $191.97! Thanks for confirming

Got mine today! First impressions are really good. They do a great job of letting you listen to music while still being able to hear everything around you. The best I can describe it is it's like the transparency mode on my Airpods Max, which I absolutely love. The packaging is all really nice and the case is tiny. Nice feeling in the ear too, should be able to wear them for hours without any problem.

Kinda like them more than my Galaxy Buds Live already tbh.

    • Damn you! Literally just received a notification that I'll be receiving them tomorrow.

Now the question is, how's the comfort?

I don't really listen to music often. These are more for YouTube on my tablet or my PS Vita. Main thing is they don't fall out when I need to get up and move.

      • They don't quite feel like I'm wearing nothing like some have said, and I think I'm going to have to have mismatching "wings" on them as the fit seems better in one ear than the other atm with the XL tips in, but they're definitely comfortable having them in for hours on end. I've been wearing them all morning in the office and getting up and down and walking around and they haven't budged.

  • Got mine the other day, looks like I'm going to return mine since the wings are not big enough for my ears. So sad. They sound awesome!

    • Just checking - you tried the XL ones too? If you didn't know, there are 5 included size wings.

      • Sure did, they fall out within an hour just sitting. I'm sad! Like I said audio is awesome!

        • Bugger. Mine stay in even without any of the wings on haha.

  • picked one up from JB today, fiddle around with different size bands until I got the right spot.
Surprisingly great sound, sometimes a little low especially with ring tones. so far so good, will give it a go for at least 14 days before I decide to keep or return

    • fun fact, you can double tap with your teeth LOL

    • JB do change of mind returns?

      • no, through Sony. I did and now awaiting for my refund

        • why u don't like it ?

          • @samelight: one ear fits good, the other one don't. tells you a lot about your own ears LOL Feels good, sometimes even a bit too light. design is great though, many will follow this.
