Good luck because it might be damaged when it arrives?

I dont think that will be an issue, my credit card insurance would cover in the unlikely event Sony didn't

  • good luck, read how they are treated from Sony

    • -7

as the comments say, just open the box while the delivery driver is their, that way no issues

      • +1

Sony obviously believe he dropped it after it was delivered.

        Buyer says he didn't.

I am not sure who to believe. I can understand Sony's position if he dropped it….

      • +34

lol, delivery drivers don't wait around while someone opens up a TV hahaha

        • Not sure why you were negged.

          This is entirely true.

          • +2

@iNeed2Pee: cause most on here are dead shids

        • im sure if you ask they would wait few mins, otherwise just record while opening it but still no proof you didn't drop the box before opening, how else do you expect a 85" TV delivered, no matter who you buy from they would question if you dropped it yourself

  • +6

I don't think the above comments are fair, the whirlpool link clearly says take a photo of the packaging before opening it.

Kinda makes sense? Especially with boot prints over it lol.

I got a 75x90j which was delivered OK but you don't know what's happened since it left the factory. It's 2022 everyone has a phone and takes photos/videos of everything so…

Anyways this is a ~$1800 discount from RRP which makes it a deal, thanks OP.

Although it is the internet. Say what you will.

    • It says Sony have shit customer service tbh.

But i am not surprised because most companies are the same lol.

      • +1

Yeh it's not fantastic, it's outsourced and easy to get angry.

I'm in the middle of a service request where the tv won't display 24p (23.97) after the latest update. This sucks. But they keep calling back from the call centre in somewhere and they are pretty diligent.

I could flash it back to the previous firmware but without direction from support I may have a brick. I big Fu*king brick.

I guess my point is patience…and not go full internetthreathenfairtradingticktokinstagooglefacetweet.

Massive companies don't like negative feedback they usually follow through.

Otherwise go to town I guess. Come on.

  • Does it say you were signed up to the edu store because when i signed up it looked like i signed up to the regular store

  • Anyone try, good guys or Harvey Norman to price match?

    • They usually won't as it is a special deal for particular customers. Same way they typically won't match staff deals or the commercial portals.

  • Are you able yo share pricing on the 65" x95j ?

    • $2,279.40 AUD

      • Thanks mate, excellent price. Up until now i think the best I seen was around ~$2700.

  • +2

Price on the 75 x95j please?

    • Curious too, never seen 75x95j in a bargain price so far.

    • $2,999.40

      • Cheers GG

      • So cheap!!

  • 85X95J or 77A80J, arrrhhhhhh! not sure which one to go!!! Kinda need a bigger screen as sofa is quite far from TV, but OLED seems to be very good review compare with led.

    • +3

      77 A80J FTW

    • +2

Not that the oled isn't bright, but if your room is bright (and average curtains / only sheers) the 95 is a much better tv. Your call, you won't be disappointed in either though

  • How much is it for the X90J 65 inch ?

    • Exactly 20 inches less

    • 3300

  • So my parents Sony TV stopped working one day after couple of years (something to do with power, randomly works for couple of hours then dies again until by miracle it randomly works again, electronics shop couldn't figure out whats wrong) and my friend's Sony TV died after couple of years last week (sound yes but no screen). I've got a Sony TV of my own which still works fine but I've started to switch, latest one I got for parents was Samsung and my friend switched to LG. I'm not getting any other Sony TV

  • Man this was a sign was going to buy the X90J 75inch 3 weeks ago for $2800 from a JBHIFI freinds discount… thank god I waited. Needed the X95J for the better anti-reflection and overall experience… I'm pumped… Dont think we would get the QLED deals on the X95K for another 12months so this was a no brainer!

I own my last Sony TV(s). Both still working, but lack of firmware updates mean the next brand won't be a Sony.

A full HD won't play full HD free to air because the decoder won't decode the vision, just the audio, and Sony won't bother with a firmware upgrade.

A so called smart TV won't play any of the built in apps like iView because Sony won't provide firmware updates.

Solved with a chromecast, but shouldn't need to.

They've become the Hewlett-Packard of TVs.

  • Tempting but not if it's worth paying an extra $1800 and get the 83" A90J OLED for $5999
    https://store.sony.com.au/television-OLED/XR83A90J.html#star…
Is OLED worth paying extra for?

    • +2

My original budget was $3k so stretched it a long way already.

I also have a bright room and my mum's 1 year old OLED looks brilliant at night but very dim during the day - so happy with LED.

Also replacing an 85" hisense so really dont want to go smaller

      • Thanks I think you've talked me into getting the LED

    • +2

If you can afford it yes.

Mines in a very bright room and I have to shut blinds, Buddy downstairs got an oled and rubs it in my face.

      Just sayin..it's noticable.

      • +2

Thanks, I think you're saying the OLED is better at night but the LED is better during the day because it's backlit and has a brighter display? I read that OLED screens also burn easier than LED. I'm leaning towards the LED because paying 42% extra ($6k) for the OLED is hard to swallow. They're both 4K which is the main thing

        • +1

If you see these TV in person,, it may change your mind. I have a few older oled models from 2017 and 2018 in relatively bright room and have no issues. The A90J uses the evo panel, so it'll be brighter than the older ones.

My mate has the 85" X900h and still needs to put the blinds down from direct glare from the window. So either way, if you have any direct light hitting the TV, it's going to be no different.

        • +1

Bearboi makes a fantastic comment. You've gotta see it in person but then in store they have the TV on demo mode which is not your lounge room. and so on.

I had a samsung before I upgraded and I found I had to customise the brightness on the sony, depends what your putting through the panel. Best thing if you have some mates who have the TV go harrass them have a movie/game/tv/etc night as use that info. There is no specific answer for you, unfortunately :)

But yeah OLED mucho goodo if you have coino.

          check out rtings ?

          • +2

@barg99: Thanks mate, that's a great website.. ended up going with OLED and getting the 77" A80J

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Yeh man you got the coin, you won't regret it. Sony have been a bit shitty with there updates, but they prioritise the high end.

              Enjoy bro.

Blatant, I work for a company who sets up home automation and home theatre, let me know if you want it done.

  • Any idea how long they take to deliver?
Moving house so thinking of posting it straight to the new place.

  • +2

Nothing I do will send the activation email.
    I have a QUT email

    • +2

Yep same with a uq email. I've tried multiple times and can't get the email through.

    • I have a QUT email too. Sent Sony a support ticket to review why I can not activate the account.

  • How much for 75 x90?

  • Cool. My amex has spend 500 get 75 back. Gonna try use 2 amex cards

    • It's impossible to pay online with separate cards

  • Looks like it's now sold out?

    • Yeah looks like no stock of the 85" LED or 83" OLED

      • +1

So rubbish, I am still waiting for verification email.

        • Mine went to my Sydney Uni email SPAM folder.

You might want to check their

  • My XR-85X95J has a delivery ETA of 9 April

    • I just received tracking for mine. It is due to be delivered tomorrow, 7/4/22.

      • Delivered!

The DHL guy was on his own so I had to carry the 67kg box inside with him.

Will open tomorrow when the old TV is gone.

        • Nice! Are you in Sydney?

          • +1

@choofa: No. Port Stephens, 2.5 hours north of Sydney

            TV left Sydney yesterday

        • How tf are they supposed to deliver it if there's only 1 guy?

          • @mandelbrot: They are assuming you are on site and can assist.

It is pretty heavy. If it was my missus at home she would have had no chance of lifting one end.

It is kinda poor. My last 3 TV's before this I got from Harvey Norman (price matching other stores).

Their delivery included delivery by 2 men, unboxing and putting the unboxed TV on top of my TV stand - plugging it into the wall and testing that it turned on…

They then took away the empty boxes and packing material.

I have to say I prefer that Harvey Norman experience.

If it was a 55" TV or smaller it's not a hassle, but when they are 75" and 85" weighing over 60kg, it is an issue.

Unboxing this thing, putting the feet on it, then lifting it onto the TV stand is going to be quite an exercise.

            • +1

@TheCandyMan2020: That's BS. Not everyone who orders a large tv is a young/middle aged male who can help lift the thing

  • This is so unfair. My order went through, they deducted money from my credit card, then I get this email after following up.
Looks like they were just using the promo to gauge interest in their products.

    Hi ******,

Thank you for contacting Sony Customer Support. My name is ***** and I was able to review the enquiry you have raised regarding your Order Number AU00*******.

Unfortunately we have been unable to process your order in this instance, as an undisclosed issue has occurred.

There might be a few possible reasons for an order that has not been confirmed or cancelled, you may check on the details that you have placed, card and bank details and also stocks and availability.

Upon checking, you have ordered a Smart/Google TV, XR85X95J. Since Sony has received an unexpected influx of Television orders, all Sony televisions are currently out of stock. With a heavy heart, this now makes all televisions an exclusion to the Student program offer. Your understanding is highly appreciated.

The order has been automatically reversed, and the funds will be available to you within 3-10 banking days depending on your banking institute.

    • It is very strange that they are saying "an undisclosed issue has occurred"

It is even stranger that some televisions purchased under the Student program offer have already been delivered - including mine - yet Sony are now saying all televisions are an exclusion to the Student program offer?!?

I am sorry this has happened to you. I am replacing a Hisense 85U8G and despite the bad wrap they are given it is a top notch TV. You can pick one up for $3k delivered and I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed. I am only replacing it because it doesn't have hands free voice control and I bought it on the expectation it would. Other than that I really love the 85U8G.

    • My order got cancelled as well with same stupid reason :(

  • So I have the TV up and running.

I have to say I dont notice it as being better then the TV it replaced - Hisense 85U8G. It's not worse either, but for $1000 more I am not seeing the $1000 improvement I was hoping for.

The default brightness setting is a little dim for my liking and I have turned off the light sensor.

Installing the legs wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Lifted the top off the box and the panel stands upright in it's foam supports at the base. Move the support off one corner and put the leg on there - then do the same on the other side.

    • Technically the u8G and the X95j are similar with similar peak brightness. The U8G has more dimming zones than the X95j. The Sony blooming will be more evident, especially in a dark room with the wide angle filter reducing contrast to half that of the U8G, and having less dimming zones

With the Sony you are getting better gradation with colours, better colour, true 10bit panel, and a more accurate image. It is true the Hisense could look better with some content due to the higher specs than the Sony though.

  • Got the 75incher last night, all setup on a wall - man it's a size upgrade from 55inch :)

Ashame we only get HD content for the GP etc… Need 4K to be standard!

    • Hey mate, what wall mount do you use? Cheers
