  • I would stay away from Artist Guitars. I literally bought one last week (basically the model above this, cost $349) and the quality of the guitar was beyond dismal. Like, it was actually rusted at the capstans and there was a chip in the fretboard. I have no idea how it passed QC. However, aside from the very poor construction of the guitar, it did sound nice and bright (although funnily enough, I had someone play it from a distance and it sounded awful, although sitting and playing it I didn't notice anything different).

With that said, if you're an absolute beginner and you're starting out, you might be fine for the price. But if you're wanting this as a long term hobby, I would stay well away. The quality is not great.

The best thing I ever did was go to a guitar shop and try all sorts of different guitars (literally today). Huge game changer, didn't realise what I liked until then I tried a few different brands.

I've read plenty of great things about artist guitars and the occasional negative.

Did they offer a replacement guitar?

if you're an absolute beginner and you're starting out, you might be fine for the price

I think beginners are their target audience

The best thing I ever did was go to a guitar shop and try all sorts of different guitars

That's the best thing to do when you're read to move up a level

      • On the upside, support were great and responsive. I didn't opt for a replacement, because I was just that appalled at the quality of the instrument. Even just purely from a materials perspective, it just felt and looked cheap.

But my takeaway is that for the price I paid, the sound was really good. But still, you're getting what you pay for. So like I said earlier, it sounded really good playing, but listening to it from a distance sounded dreadful VS a similar guitar. Largely due to the parts being used.

For their $349 option, I think you're basically getting a similar (well-made) option that's around $550 - $600, albeit with the terrible materials and the compromises that come with it.

        • What can you recommend instead for $99 shipped?

          • @King Steuart: For $99 I'm not sure, I don't really know that market very well. Maybe as a really basic beginner guitar, this might be a great deal. Perhaps my comments reflect more if you want something that's quality and will last you longer, because most certainly if you wish to make this a long-term hobby you will certainly buy a new guitar and likely trash this one (or alternately, sell it on)

Personally speaking, I've been playing guitar for around 1 year and I got my first guitar off gumtree for around $200, not knowing anything about guitars. And it wasn't too flash, so yeah. If you're dying to pay $99 for a guitar, then you probably can't go wrong with this. Just understand that it's probably going to not be very good. But also, if you're new to it all, you probably won't know the difference anyway.

            • @dottjt: I'm quite the opposite actually. I've been playing since '99 and I have 3 guitars that cost approx $4k total (Washburn accoustic, Yamaha accoustic with pickup, Mexican Fender Strat) but I've been considering getting a smaller guitar to teach the young ones so that they perhaps are able to pick up a guitar earlier than me.

Was just trying to figure out if this 3/4 guitar is worth $99 shipped.

My main concern honestly would be that it has steel strings which aren't great for beginner fingers.

I’m sure customer service could fix this up. I had some minor issues with my DS120 and they sorted it out within a few days. IMO they have a great customer experience team taking care of after sales service

      • Absolutely, I 100% agree with their customer service being 10/10 fantastic. I think much of my opinion is relative to other similar guitars I've played.

  • $5 cheaper on your ebay site than on Ozbargain. That can't be right or good for business, is it rep?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292420521081?hash=item44159f0c79…

    • Any chance on a voucher so we can book direct from your site at the ebay price rather than giving Ebay a clip of the ticket?

And any sign of the DS120 Solid Spruce Top Dreadnought coming back into stock? as at www.ozbargain.com.au/node/684565

I know you've got free shipping so I could order separately, but I'd like to order one of each in time for Easter if possible.

        Hey UncleRico,
Any further discounts provided by eBay are provided through eBay themselves, there is no way to prevent this and we cannot offer any further discounts or vouchers.
The DS120 is now out of stock, but you can find the DS120CEQ (electric-acoustic version) on our website for $349

        • No prob - thanks for the reply rep.

Glad to hear that Ebay are providing the discount - I didn't want to order using their discount code if you were footing the bill and it was eating further into your margin.

Kudos also for your responsiveness and service. I ordered a violin package from you and found the interaction to be helpful, the instrument was great value and delivery was super fast.

          Cheers.

          • +1

@UncleRico: Awesome! Thanks so much for the great feedback!
I really hope you enjoy the new violin - don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to help

            • @ArtistGuitars: Cheers for the reply.

The violin - whilst fine - didn't really excite the little one, and has been gathering dust for the past year. So we've ordered guitars for Easter to see if they can't get the musical juices flowing instead.

Ordered on Wednesday night and all three were sitting at the door waiting for me when I got home today on Friday afternoon. Can't wait to crack them out on Easter morning to help celebrate the death of that Jesus bloke. Word is that he enjoyed a bit of Ed Sheeran as well…

Great service once again - many thanks.
