Noticed these drop to the lowest I think i've seen. I ended up purchasing the last pair from Mannys eBay for $630 with coupon as the product page on Amazon is showing 4-6 weeks before dispatch. Assume it will be earlier than that, but didn't want to take the chance.

      Most likely…

I am running the 990 Pro off my Asus x570i Strix mobo and they get loud enough but they are rather quiet from my iPhone.

Previously had a JDS stack but found it unnecessary. Will test the 1990 Pro on my mobo and see how it goes.

250 ohms. That's a yes. Try to ignore the guy in the stock photo plugging it straight into his laptop, although he is an apple user so this is probably quite realistic.

Not sure if this is a burn, but MBPs picked up adaptive voltage output to cater for high impedance headphones in the 2021 models. Given how sensitive 1990s are, there is easily enough power to drive them to ear splitting levels.

    • No.

The 1990s have a much higher sensitivity than Beyer’s previous 250Ohm headphones and they will run loud enough off of just about anything.

Half volume is loud enough for me to use on a low-end 2017 ThinkPad.

      • Loudness and driver control are two different things, so the impedance curve needs to be considered.

Beyers traditionally have a fairly flat impedance curve, but I don't have access to one for the 1990. The 1770 jumps to 500 ohms in the low bass, so if that's any guide, you're looking at something that absolutely requires a good quality amp for clean bass.

Wow they gold plated somewhere, saying that love to know why the high price must be the bees bees of headphones, never heard of the brand either

    • +1

      wut :O

    • +3

If you’ve never heard of beyerdynamic then you really have no business looking at headphones in this price range.

      • Why not? These are consumer products available to everyone.

        • +3

I'd probably say "if you've never heard of this brand, you have no business criticising the price".

Also the "ugh so expensive" mentality without looking further is what drives all our manufacturing to China and adds junk to landfill.

Particularly on headphones, a lot of my friends go through a pair a year. I've had my same sennheiser ones for a good 5+ years.

…but granted I'd still never spend $600 on headphones =p

        • +3

If they were actually interested then they would’ve taken the time to do a quick google search on the brand instead of making a smart arse comment about the price and their (false) assumption that beyerdynamic is a no name brand.

    • Username checks out…

    • they are 100% the bees bees

this $596 is just "let's start"… another $3000 match up devices can push this headphone work 70% its capability, are you ready?

  • Would I notice much improvement upgrading from Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros to these? I have a DAC as well.

  • DAC/Amp is required. Good for critical listening. Otherwise, just buy Sony XM4, decent sound from closed cans. Minimal hassle.

My DT 990 Pros left side died, so was looking at the 1990s as a replacement and upgrade.

But after some research, decided to get the Hifiman Edition XS instead from Aliexpress using this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/691246

Recommend others check them out too if you're looking around this price point.

    • What do you think?
Hifiman Edition XS or 1990 Pro?
i was going to the the Edition XS but the sale is over

      • the 1990 pros are great, used to have them before selling. no point pondering around the edition xs unless you want to pay non-sale price

1990 pro have been described to have slightly more intimate soundstage since they are semi open rather than full open compared to edition xs, and slightly more bass when using default pads

        • yeah i was just asking i know i missed the xs

      • Well I bought the Edition XS, so if they arrive in time before you cop something, I can let you know my thoughts on them. There was a delay because of some Chinese holiday so haven't got tracking as of yet.

But yeah from what i researched, it seems like they're the best new headphones in this price range. DT 1990 seems like a very solid bet but I'm also a sucker for shiny new tech and these are fresh off the shelves!

        • thanks for your comment.
i would love to know what you think about them when they arrive.
