Probably the entry-level planar headphone these days, but arguably only worth it if you're not willing to reach for the HD6XX. This is neutral/flat, with a small dip around 2kHz, and some heat in the upper treble via the Stealth Magnets. Described by some as a mini-Sundara (presumably the original release), it has a great level of detail and resolution for the price, but imaging is a little fuzzier than some key competitors (eg. K612, DT990, DT880).

Back at its lower price point, you will need an amp to supply this enough current to make it shine, with its sensitivity being 91 dB. Great review with FR measurements here.

Enjoy!

Upvote for the detail, very tempting…

  • +1 Great Headphone!
With a hefty dose of Eq the Bass response is wonderfull.

  • Here's a more in-depth review for those who are interested.

    • Technically in-depth, sure, but not a lot is conveyed aside from specificity of the imaging issues I mentioned.

Has Amir moved to a well-accepted GRAS measurement tool yet? His FR measurements might not be particularly accurate.

  • The 6XX is such a great set of cans, I find myself using them most of the time these days.

  • I have the HD 560S. Would you guys say that these are similar or better?

I should stop buying headphones though :)

    • It's mostly a sidegrade, and a somewhat similar tonal balance and imaging performance.

I'd be looking elsewhere at upgrades, or something that works for different use cases (eg. closed backs, or probability) or at least something that brings a significant tonal or technical change you're interested in.

  • none of the other headphones you mentioned are planar.

    • They compete at the price point.
