  • its a good price for a descent phone

    • beware, mine didn't unlock, they wanted 50 $ per phone for unlocking…

I bought two if these and was stuck.

  • +1

Thanks op, decent price for the specs.

    • +1

      cheers!

  • techradar review http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/samsun… for anyone interested in buying

  • Good price for the W. For a 'budget' phone I think it is probably the best option out there.

  • how does this compare to other budget phones like galaxy ace?

  • Probably the best non clearance budget phone available. However I think it should be a bit cheaper. This is the best price I've seen so far though.

You can get the Optimus 2X for $50 more.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-P990-Optimus-2x-Black-8MP-Wi-F…

$50 for an extra CPU core, +.3" of screen, IPS panel, 8MP/1080p camera. more internal storage, custom ROMS and much better build quality.

    • +2

If I didn't have an inherent distrust when it comes to eBay + electronics from previous experience I would say this should have its own page. If people don't mind trying to get a better deal at the expense of possibly having to deal with PayPal if the phone is damaged when it gets to them I would say this phone is awesome and so is the deal! good job Tycn!

    • +2

Not really comparable as the LG isn't a NextG phone and doesn't support the 850Mhz network. The Galaxy W seems to be the best value NextG phone.

    • well spotted mini-HDMI is a nice feature. Only thing I would say is that samsung might have an edge in quality

    • +1

      It is not NEW.

This phone is classed as a 'Retailer Second' and is in an 'as new' pristine condition and will be shipped in its original box all standard original accessories.

  • A decent phone from Samsung, specially in the mid-rage Android section. Galaxy W won't get ICS update, but still beats Galaxy Ace series with the Secondary video camera on board which Ace series does not have !!!!

To configure 3G access for optus sims. Use the link below.

To use an Optus network SIM make sure you live / work / play in an Optus 3G (2100MHz) area. This phone is not compatible with the Optus 3G (900MHz) network and as such won't be much use on the Optus 3G network outside metro and major regional areas.

    • Good call; thanks for the heads-up.
That's a deal breaker for me, better to pay a few $ more elsewhere.

    • . dupe

    • Took the words right out of my mouth.. :)

  • is this much inferior to galaxy s?
    thanks in advance

Buckscoop gives you 10% cashback on this.

    • can you double dip with starthere?

    • Can someone please explain how do we get this 10 % discount with Buckscoop ?

        • You join Buckscoop
        • Click through their link to go to Vodafone
        • Complete the transaction on Vodafone's site — make sure you don't go to any other website
        • 10% of the cost will be added to your Buckscoop account in 2-3 months time, which you can withdrawal later.

StartHere also operates the same way, but not as good in terms of cashback rate.

        • Perfect,
I bought two of these ,
can;t wait to get the phones..

Are they related to OZbargain in anyway?

        • No. I've met both the founders of StartHere and Buckscoop. StartHere currently provides me their cashback rate via a download so I can display them alongside the deals. Still waiting on Buckscoop to provide me the same.

        • Thanks Scotty, I did end up buying two of these from Buckscoop.
lets see if the cashback comes through.

        • Cool. I am looking at bringing Buckscoop's cashback rate here in late July. I know they are also working on "single sign on" feature (implemented by the same team of HotUKDeals/Quadco in UK) so people can click through the link from OzBargain to merchant's website and pick up the tracking along the way.

  • I'm tempted. The review says the call quality is not great.

How do you find the call quality, fchis ?

    • Quality is fine I would say 8 out 10 (depends on the signal).

  • The screen is smaller than Nexus S?

  • -3

I'd get the Galaxy Nexus for $355~$399

    • +1

Good for you. Where at that price?

    • +3

I'd get the samsung galaxy note for $450 - $500 or the htc one for $570 - $600 or the new iphone 5 $900+ when it comes out.

  • With the much anticipated SGS3 due to be unveiled today, its time to clear out old carp.

    • +3

Think this is a newish model, so new carp.
Agree that its prolly the best bang for buck right now though only "want" to spend ~ $200 on it.

    • old carp! SGS3 wont be here still next year. OZ has been left out for the asia launch

  • Anybody know if the Vodafail B&M stores will match this price?

    • +1

Generally not; these prices are online only. The only time I've had a store honour online pricing was when my online order was bungled by Voda, and they allowed me to pick the handset in-store after they had taken payment online from me already (That was for a Nexus S).

  • +1

Just to be clear, this is a NextG phone and doesn't support the Optus 9ooMhz network. Bloody great value for a nextg phone though!

    • So if I'm on TPG which uses the optus network, my phone won't have any network service at all? Make it useless?

      • it will work ok, but the coverage of the 3g network will be flaky out in the sticks

      • So if I'm on TPG which uses the optus network, my phone won't have any network service at all? Make it useless?

Wherever there is an Optus 2G signal it will work. This phone will also work on the Optus 3G (2100MHz) network but coverage is restricted to urban / city / metro / major regional areas only. In other regional and rural areas Optus uses the 3G 900MHz band and as such this phone is not compatible (but it will still work in these areas where the Optus 2G network is available.

Google "Optus mobile coverage" and peruse the coverage maps to get a better idea.

  • Great phone with excellent battery life.. only drawback I have after few days of use is it does not have an ambient light sensor so you end up adjusting the brightness all the time…

oh and I tried to unlock and got a 8 digit unlock code but this message "THE UNLOCK INSTRUCTION FOR THIS MODEL IS NOT AVAILABLE"

    • Hey poxy001 what is the speakerphone like - volume and quality wise?

      • +1

not bad. Wouldt say it is amazing but enough to tick the box.

    • +1

poxy001: Did you power off the phone and take out the battery, put it back in and power it on again? You then key in the PIN to unlock the network lock.

I think you can add power saving widget to adjust the brightness without constantly changing it.

    • That message you're getting on the Vodafone unlock page means the phone's already unlocked…

  • +3

Great phone. I have to say that it is increasingly difficult to get good quality sub-4inch Android phones, and this one fits the bill for those looking for smaller phone that is still powerful enough to use 2 years later.

  • Will it work on Telstra NextG? On the Vodafone site specs it says 3G 850 HSDPA yet on GSM Arena it doesn't (might be a different model?) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_w_i8150-4114.php

    • GSM Arena has the Euro specs.

  • do you guys think they will ever upgrade this phone to ICS?

  • decent price for the phone, but I like ICS OS

  • s3 is just launched

  • So has anyone unlocked successfully?

    • Yes, I did as mentioned in the description. And it is FREE!

      • oh good to know it worked. cheers !

    • I got mine yesterday and tried to unlock and was offered the opportunity to pay $75.00. I called vodafone and was advised this handset is hard locked. I used the link as mentioned above so I'm not sure what is going on here.

  • Killer phone. For people that are into custom roms, CM9 ICS is being developed for it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874 It is still ALPHA but at least its there.

    • still no camera with CM9 when I checked yesterday

      • It is an early port, I am sure they will progress. Use stock ROM till its ready.

HTC One V is another solid option in this price range, comes with ICS (Android 4.0). Must the cheapest phone that ships with ICS ?
    http://www.iibuy.com.au/htc-one-v-t320e-android-40-unlocked-…

    • Damn, shipping is $35.

Overall very similar phones, though the HTC One V has a slower CPU and no front-facing camera.

      • HTC One V is not compatible with Telstra 4G

    • Just on hardware specs, this HTC does not have GPS and has a 1Ghz CPU only. The Samsung has a 1.4Ghz (40% faster) CPU and has GPS for accurate navigation outside urban region.

      • The HTC One V does have GPS capability of course.
