Unlink eBay Gift Card for Use with Another eBay Account

Hey guys,

Firstly, I have googled and searched OzBargain.
Apologies in advance if this question has been answered before.

I have a couple of gift cards that are now linked to a family member's eBay account. A item was purchased but had to be returned due to a defect, and all funds went back to the original payment methods (2x GCs + PayPal).

Is there any way to request to have those two eBay gift cards unlinked from said account, and so they can be used by another eBay account, i.e. mine?

Before you ask why don't you just use the first account rather than your own. Well, the item I am wanting to purchase is a Plus item, and the first account no longer has eBay Plus priviliges.

I am aware this is possible with Amazon GCs, but I am not entirely sure if this is completely disallowed by eBay.

No, you cannot transfer eBay gift card balance
once it has been used in an account, it stay stuck to that account.

Best to just get monthly trial on that old account or use it to buy non eBay plus item

  • Thanks guys.

  • TIL this - I thought you could just use the 13 digit code on a second account, but now I know!

The GC gets linked to the first eBay account as soon as it is redeemed, partially or fully.

Likewise, for Amazon GCs. However, with Amazon you can request the claim code to be unlinked. Sadly, eBay does not allow this. (TIL)

I'm also curious beyond the usual scams or if cards from a deal get reversed or cancelled.

  • Just be thankful the funds were successfully returned to the cards, saved a world of pain dealing with eBay chat.
