Bought a fridge/freezer off em a few years back.

    • This or Breville Bambino Plus? I used to work as a barista so I know my way around a machine, but which one is better?

      • +2

Depends how many years you think will get out of it? Reckon the bambino is cheaper but also won't last as long? Also the bambino is probbaly easier to use but depends how involved you want to be?

      • The correct Ozbargain answer is… Aeropress at $41.58 delivered off Amazon.

All kidding aside I have had the Bambino for about 7 years. Still works.

  • +1

    Still with an aluminium boiler.

I have 3 Classics, the oldest is 14 years, and they've all been running fine for all those years. I descale and clean about every 3 months. Don't worry about paper specs, these machines are solid and reliable.

  • +2

Great machine. Makes coffee better than the local cafes once you get used to how it works.

    • +5

Must have a burr grinder with it. Very much worth taking a half day coffee making course at a local place.

    • +2

I’ve heard similar positives about this

  • +2

FYI this is not the stainless steel model, this is painted galvanised steel.

Ah yes the highly rated prosumer machine with pressurised baskets and plastic parts.

    • I thought these came with both baskets? Though afaik the pump was designed with the pressurised basket in mind (yikes)

    • -1

I don’t think it comes with a pressurised basket, but who even uses stock baskets in any machine. It’s VST or IMS all the way.

Very capable machine if you’ve got the skills.

    • It does come with un-pressurised basket though, right? Also not sure about the plastic part except for the drip tray

      • +2

Don’t listen to the haters - buy it, learn espresso from a very good entry price. There are some easy and cheap mods if you decide to take it to the next level before upgrading to another machine (if you get upgraditis which is common in coffee).

Remember, espresso has a learning curve. If you’re not into the detail you may struggle with getting great results.

Yeah I owned a second hand unit before. Almost 20 year old and still ran like a charm. I'm now using a restored 17 year old ECM Giotto

    • +2

I've got one, they come with both basket types. Very well made machine for the money

  • Great price, it'll pay for itself in no time!

  • My Breville Dual Boiler just broke down (gets really hot and some water leaking out). Any advice of whether I should buy one of these or try to repair?

    • +1

Try swapping the triac board if the boiler keeps heating, it's pretty cheap and not too hard to do if you're so inclined. Also have a go swapping orings with a seal kit if you can find the leak and you might be able to get it going again for under $100

    • +1

My Breville was getting really hot at the front corner, turned out to be an internal leak that an o-ring replacement could fix.

    • +1

You will need to lift the top and replace the orings at minimum.
I had one go on the steam boiler so was getting no noticeable leaks, this damaged the triac board.
Resulted in the group head hitting 130C.
Replaced the orings ~$3 a piece and $48 for the triac board from the local appliance spare parts place.
      Good as new.

    • Wow thanks everyone! I'm glad I asked. So I can repair this myself?

  • How do I buy it? It doesn't seem to have an 'add to cart' button

  • $475 delivered to ACT, apparently there is a cosmetic defect.
