What Ruins OzBargain for You?

So I have a love/hate relationship with ozbargain.com.au. I really enjoy the principle of sharing great deals, saving sums money and getting everyone's shared experiences and reviews.

At the same time the humour is pretty solid. There are some witty commentators among you.

That said. Some things turn me right off! What grinds your gears the most?

I'd like to think the ozbargain.com.au gods are reading this and might take our views into consideration.

Update: Thanks to the mods for providing some advice to some concerns/comments.

I know this may have set off some negative comments but I hope the ozbargain.com.au gods take it as constructive. It was good of them to allow this forum run at the risk of complaints.

I still ❤️ you ozbargain.com.au

I hate the random negs. Would be nice to understand their viewpoint but I just assume people are just salty.

      • +3

Someone thought it was funny to randomly neg the comment so I upvoted. sigh

        • +2

Saltier than the Red Sea. lol

        I actually agree.
As much as I love negging JV. gotta admit it is basically bullying.
The random, anonymous negs just let people bully/get on a bandwagon without thinking.

tbh i think the low level bullying is hard to deal with from the mod side of things. We all just gotta try be better

        • It can be dealt with, if wanted. Like in any organisation/group of people.

        • Yea. I think Ozb used to have the neg voters usernames listed but that also encouraged bullying. It's a challenging problem.

Some users like JV are fair game considering their comments.

  • Stupid polls.

The fact that people spend their free time on this website.

Anonimous posts with no location expecting us to guess it
asking for a friend (not admitting being too dumb)
being self centric instead a good community sports
sponsort posts not really of any relevance ( do understand it costs money to run a board but be reasonable!)
political distortied views for own benefit

    • OzBargain does not have sponsored posts of any type, we are 100% independent.

    • Asking for a friend is exactly why people should have an option of anonymously creating a forum post.

People who obsessed with buying landfill cheap products and spreaded hates on those who goes for quality

  • When a new movie on Disney+ or Netflix is posted as a "deal"

  • where is pam

    • Pam is so 2019, screensaver is where it's at now.

    Not much tbh

I feel like people who neg a deal or comment that is was cheaper previously annoy me the most. Especially if this previous deal was expired and has not came close to that deal since.

Do you have an example? I don’t think I’ve seen that unless maybe it’s a product that’s always on sale every second week.

      • +2

there's this guy who does it sometimes and often uses alot of bold. :P

I guess most recently any Miele c3 deals alluding to that one time where it was <$400 in a deal from 2018 or most roborock S5 max deals that are >$500 because they were cheaper before covid. See lots of comments on graphics card deals saying they got the same card for a fraction of the price before the shortage so it isn’t technically a ‘deal’

People complaining about downvotes - voting is how the site works, and people have the right to downvote, even if it may be irrational.

  • My gripe is that you need to publically share if you down vote a deal, and with a specific reason that is deemed worthy of the neg, but an up vote doesn't require people to publically express their opinion. It stifles the true deal worthiness, dissuades some from down voting a deal. This imbalance is also applicable to being able to see votes on comments by individuals. Down votes on comments is anonymous but up votes are visible to all. Some may argue that it helps to form relationships but I just think it creates and strengthens clicks between users. Keep it uniform is all I'm saying. Apologies to all that hate ppl giving long winded responses :)

I also hate some of the rude and bullish behaviours by some on Ozb. It dissuades new users posting or commenting and also doesn't work towards encouraging a positive community culture (ozb being the community).

And last one, that you can't forum post anonymously. I think this would encourage more honest discussion and postings on some forums . I'm talking the OP being able to anonymously post a topic. Especially useful where someone may want to post person financial information like income etc but not necessarily share in a way that it can be used at a later stage by others (as some people love to do).

  • I’m just here to find a pretty sweet deal for something interesting. Thank you to everyone contributing, don’t stop.

    JV at times…

  • Deals implying new content added to streaming services.

  • I have a solution.

If every profile had a photo of the account owner, I believe people would be more respectful in general.

It may become boring tho 🤣

    • You don’t want to see me, but I’ve put up a photo of one of my cats. Say hello to Esmeralda Weatherwax.

      • Just look at that judgy face …..EW is judgier than Judge Judy 😉

        • Nothing is judgier than a cat. She has her “oh, really?” face on in this picture.

Look up Esmeralda Weatherwax. She is a witch in the Terry Pratchett Discworld series. Brilliant set of books.

  • What ruins this and all public forums?

That I can't say what ruins this and all public forms without being banned.

  • I can't seem to add my vote, but my answer is easy: Negative votes have a very narrow & strict definition, and get deleted often.
