YMMV but I got an ebay basket for $165 December last year, started rusting at all the weld points within two months of rain hitting it but other then that it's been solid.
Get some rust converter and some sikaflex, convert the rust, clean with ethanol then sikaflex over the top. That oughta give you a few more years.
Reviews are mixed
I bought a large Rough Country one from Autobarn for less than $300 (I think on special for $240) last year and it has held up great, 15 months and 40,000km later, including many thousands of kms on unsealed roads and 4wd tracks with around 60kgs on it full time. I expected it to rust quickly, but I've been surprised.

It attaches to an existing roof rack, not directly to the car. It will fit most roof racks.
