Hello, I want to do some DYI but I have no idea where things are behind my walls.

I have been paying a tradie and he always brings this detector / wall scanner. So i finally got one myself.

It has mixed reviews, but I have seen it working and have been satisfied by the results.

It has been cheaper (as per camelcamelcamel) but at $102.67 it is excellent. You can also get for $98.27 if wait for it to come from Amazon Uk.

I tried to price check at bunnings and it was just too difficult.

Price History at C CamelCamelCamel.

Just for reference, it's $139 at Bunnos.

    • Sorry, I meant to say price match. Bunnings wouldn't price match Amazon without so many conditions.

        Bunnings wouldn't price match Amazon

        Their policy says they don't.

They only price match other stores

        • They said they would if: wasn't amazon prime, delivery wasn't included, and if it was delivered on the same day.

Anyway, I didn't read their policy.

Franklin Sensors FS710PRO ProSensor 710+ is a regular OzBargain favourite, and slightly cheaper. Look out for discounts, bought for $82 last year

    • It's a stud finder and cannot detect copper pipes?

      • Pipes’ll only be running that shallow in the wall over the stud anyway.

    • +1

In comparison to the Franklin sensors and this digital Bosch one from this deal, which one is better?

      • The Franklin is simply the superior tool. I've had half a dozen stud finders over the year but then got the Franklin and never looked back.

How many universes can this thing detect?

Every time I get near one of these things they blow up.

    • Confirms your as dumb as a bag of hammers :)

Pot calling kettle? You're not the sharpest tool in the shed either it seems.

    • Probably because the device was not wired to go in reverse

    • so you are dud not a stud than…..

    Stud walls. Whats that? Lol

    (/s. Perth joke)

Do you know the story of the 3 little pigs?

      • He huffed and he puffed and he… signed an eviction notice😞

  • Will it work on concrete walls too?

    • Probably not. It says up to 10cm of wall, drywall, roof and ceiling. I have not been using on concrete anyway.

    • Do you mean cement sheet, Besser block or poured solid concrete walls?

Cement sheet should still be fine if it's the normal ~10mm thick stuff in bathrooms and external cladding. In the other two it may pick up ferrous sections, framing etc, and live wires but I wouldn't count on it.

      • I am not sure but I live in an apartment and the walls are made of brick and cement from what I know. I was wondering if this will work at my place.

        • You don’t really need one then. Apartment walls that are masonry or concrete are common property and you can’t really do anything to them without proper consent and checks.

  • I am newbie, so not sure how to contact moderator. But Au stock is gone, only UK stock now.

    • Just use the report button at the bottom with details

  • Not sure if this is a concern, it is from their FAQ's.

Why does the tool indicate metal objects on the entire wall?

The tool detects certain construction materials as metal due to the high iron content (e.g. aluminium foil on underfloor heating systems or metal-clad thermal glass wool insulation).

    • Aluminium foil has a high iron content?

  • It's back in stock and cheaper at $98.27

    • It is UK stock.

      • Does that matter?

        • Lol, i am newbie on posting… therefore not sure. I usually have good experience with ordering from the UK, just takes longer.

        • If you want it for the Easter long weekend project, probably

Calibrated for northern hemisphere not southern :)
