I just bought the Instinct 2 (non solar version) and love it!

    • +5

What does jamie say about this deal?

      • He's "getting that up" as we speak.

  • also tundra for 229$

    • +5

This one has a better HR sensor, better GPS chip and longer battery life

      • Is the solar charging enough for use: 24/7 HR monitoring and maybe 2hrs GPS tracking a week?

        • -1

Seeing as I can comfortably get 10 days on my Venu 2 with 24/7 HR and about 5 hours GPS a week, and an hour with music, I think this should suffice

          • @scaryspace: You get 10 days without the battery dropping a percent? Or you still need to charge it with the cable?

            • +1

@Exprise: I have to charge it, because it doesn't have solar. But the instinct 1 solar isn't designed for 'unlimited' battery life anyways, unlike the instinct 2 solar.

  • Good deal. Nice watch

  • What do I do with my fenix 6 sapphire now? OP?

    • +3

Well you don't need this if you have the Fenix 6

      • +1

        weight of it

  • Decent for tracking workouts?

  • Is it worth getting the Instinct Solar 2 over the Instinct Solar 1 ?

    • Depends what the piece difference is…

    • +1

I plan on getting a version 2 when they drop to around $450. The main feature that draws me is never plugging in if it gets a reasonable amount of sun.

      • Wouldn’t get this enough amount of power from the sun to never plug it in?

        • According to reviews, yes, if just used as a smart watch and you expose it to light a reasonable amount.

        • Not really.

You will outstrip the solar recharge with fairly default GPS settings.

If I'm hiking I tend to use about 10-20% charge per day and might gain 5% back from solar.

You could strip back the GPS quality/data frequency but that seems stupid to me.

          • +1

@Telios: I skipped it this time. I’m just unsure if it’s the right thing for me. I always loved to have a Garmin solar watch if on a reasonable price, but I just wait and see. Prices will go more down in time. I have a polar ignite 2 at the moment which is enough for me.

  • Thanks Op Purchased. Looking at the camo version on my wrist now. Charged a couple of days ago and reporting 23 days remaining:-)

  • Purchased, thanks op. After trying to figure out between the Instinct Solar 2 and Solar 1 it seems like the Solar 1 wins at this price point.

  • How do I use the watch with IOS? Is there an app for the iPhone which does it all?

    • It works fine with iOS, just download the Garmin Connect app. I have my current camo Instinct paired fine with iOS.

      • Do you need to charge it or does the sunlight cover it all the time?

        • +1

It needs a charge. I charged it a couple of days ago and it says 23 days remaining (pretty accurate). This is why I will upgrade to a version 2 when the price drops. In the mean time, I can enjoy two colours and have one on charge and wear the other LOL. Note, I just use it a smart watch, if you do GPS training it will chew the battery.

  • Does this work with sb cashback? Currently on 7.5% watches. Very tempting

    • Electronics › Wearable Technology › Smartwatches

      I doubt it.

  • +1

any difference between UK stock vs AU stock?

    • +1

I wouldn't think so. The main thing people complain about with OS Garmin is maps, but this model does not have mapping. Local warranty will be an issue.

  • I have a Forerunner 245 currently and looking at this model for it's longer battery life etc. for longer activites. One of my more frequent frustrations with the 245 is it's poor GPS connectivity. I stand still in the open and it takes sometimes over 5 minutes for GPS to be ready.
Has anyone with the Instinct found it's connectivity to be quick in this regards?

    • Mine takes about 5 seconds, maybe change your GPS settings to GPS+Glonass or Galileo

    • My 245 connects to GPS within ~10 secs if I'm outside. It's only slow when I initiate the Activity while still in the house.

      • Thanks guys, I have the latest software version and will check the GPS settings. Funnily enough I tried starting the activity in the house a couple of times and it took 10 secs but then it will fluctuate in connection time every other time.

  • I think JB has price matched and brought it down to $299 as well. The one OP mentioned for $699 is Instinct 2.

    • +2

That's a Garmin instinct. This deal was for a Garmin instinct solar which is still $699 at JB.

  • +1

    This is tempting
Did see the fenix 6x is $550ish on Amazon which would be the next logical step in performance and battery life

    • i can vouch for the fenix, its absolutely amazing. worth every penny imo

  • Looks like its all over.
Deal was saying it was on for two more days 10 minutes ago.
I was struggling to get it to accept delivery to an NT address.
Now back up to $589.58 ☹
Congratulations to those that bought it. Hope it comes through for you all. Looks like a genuinely great deal for the Solar version.
    👍 OP.

  • its coming up $279.72AUD, which is still a good price.

  • +1

This looks like a sports watch for those who don't understand wind resistance and need somewhere to shelter if it rains.
Read the review by Odetta Swann on the page linked by the OP.

    • "for those who don't understand wind resistance" - I'm just waiting for my CFD model to complete running before I determine which watch I purchase.

If you mean water resistance, then this is rated to 10ATM/100m, same as the Fenix, Epic, Tactix, so seems like a slightly cheaper but still equally capable device.

      • I believe the poster was trying to make a joke about the size of the watch.

        • Sorry, must have blown over my head.

  • +2

    oh shit missed it….

  • Interesting reviews for the seller on Amazon. Dug deeper and saw reviews on Google which are also interesting..

Is the store details on the Amazon.

    Hopefully the deal pulls through..

    • That's not who was selling the watch in the deal, it was Amazon UK the item is sold out.

      • Good to know, thanks.

  • Received mine today, thanks OP for the deal.

Dispatching was a little slow, but happy how fast shipping was once it left the UK on the 20th. (Arrived on the Sunday the 24th)
