  • Hmm tempting

    • +2

Yupz always temptations here on Ozbargain,.. problem is I buy stuff I don't really need and gets stored away and forgotten about, I'm still trying to get rid of my 3950x cpu (and promised myself) I won't open up my brand new 5950x cpu (bargain bought on Ozbargain) until I sell my 3950x, yes even tempting to break my promise and install my 5950x in my main rig,. temptations, temptations what a biacth

      • +2

How much for your 3950X though? :P

        • Don't think can buy them new anymore what they came out around 2 years back, I think on eBay can pick one up for $700ish or lower,.. oh asking about mine you mean? can't start a conversation with you as you have messages off, certainly not having conversation here about it, big no no already been band in the past over doing such things lolz πŸ˜†

      • +1

lol seriously 🀣 that does sound quite funny

      • So you've got an older CPU you can't get rid of because I presume either you won't price it realistically or you're being lazy in listing it, and you're going to leave your 5950x in a box until it too is obsolete? That makes no sense whatsoever.

  • +2

    Ahhh,my 5800x was…

    • I legit just built a 5800x rig on Sundy. Damnit

      • +2

Surely you must've known the 5600 and 5700 were being released in early April? That's literally the worst time to build a 5800x rig.

        • Surely you would appreciate that a 5800x is superior to a 5700x or 5600 though. The price wasn't too bad @ $430. I'd have gone the 5900x at this price though.

To the contrary, literally the worst time to build a 5800x rig was when they were charging $600 for it.

          • @Budju: Depends what for. The 5800x is ahead of the 5700x by up to 10% in some productivity workloads, but for gaming it's a 0-1% difference.

            • +1

@iseeyou1312: It comes down to price though. Do you think I messed up buying a 5800x @ $430 two weeks ago?

              • +1

                @Budju: Nope!

              • @Budju: Only you can really answer that. It was a decent enough price, but eventually the 5700x will be on sale for <$350. It just depends on whether or not saving ~$100 was worth waiting a few months or not.

                • +1

@iseeyou1312: Well it was $80 more than $350, which is a hypothetical price at this point. The 3700x never really went that cheap. 5700x might go to $380, so $50 premium for the extra clocks and have it now rather than some time in the future. I think I did OK. I just want a 5900x now though, mainly for that L2Cache

        • +1

So you were half right. The 5800x3d is a game changer for gaming performance. I should have gone that chip, which outperforms even a i9 12900 in gaming which is insane. They will charge for it like a wounded bull though. The 5900x at this price was my dream boo.

          • +1

@Budju: The 5800x3d will be $700+ in Australia, so not really worth it until it gets closer to the Zen 4 release and it goes on sale.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though, at 1440p and especially 4k, it's impossible for a human to tell the difference between all these high end CPUs.

  • +3

    My 3900x is still…

  • My 3800x always will…

  • Just looked at gaming performance for this against the 5600x (my current CPU) paired with a 6800xt.. 30fps on average more across all of the games I would play - very, very tempting.

    • +2

Nice… keep in mind frames are relative though. Going from 30-60 frames is great, going from 120-150 frames not so dazzling. And so on.

      • I struggle in most games to maintain the 120 fps cap that I've set to match my panel so do notice some stutter when it dips from 110 down to 90ish.
I have turned down a few settings to try and maintain that 120fps but it's a struggle sometimes. If i could get a constant 150fps average, capped at 120, it should (hopefully) eliminate the problems.

Now to come up with a convincing argument for my wife about why we need this CPU in our lives…

    • +1

At what res, and can you link a reference?

      • 1080 / 1440p was tested in this video. although I have a 4k panel, I don't use that as 120fps is completely unachievable so, for me, this is relevant.

        • +4

This can't be right, most comparisons don't show more than 10% performance boost at 1440p when comparing 5600x and 5900x

        • +3

At 4k gaming, you would get very little benefit. Even at lower resolution you would see very little benefit in most games.

    • +2

are you running 1080p low settings with that or something? that's only way you'd get more frames to the tune of 30fps average as you claim between a 5600x and 5900x…otherwise on average most benchmarks show 1-10 frames difference when already over 150fps….no point upgrading from a 5600x to a 5900x just for gaming

    • +2

      at 1080p maybe but…. at 1440p .. its 1-0% better

  • -1

Please please please people, don't hoard this CPU for just gaming.
Let us workforce people use it for actual work purpose.

    /s

  • +1

It's a bit of overkill for me as I think 5700x/5800x is better for my use case but the 8 core Ryzen prices are staying stubbornly high, I'm tempted to get this too but I think better deals will come up on the 5900x.

    • +2

as soon as 5700x hits the magic $300-$350 sale price I'm in

      • +1

Absolutely, 5700x is my first choice due to better efficiency and running cooler than a 5800x, It's just too new to get discounted but it will fall like the others eventually.

        • Well zen 4 and 13th gen intel will hit market soon

      • Noting TSMC fab constraints on 7nm were a thing, 3700x never came close to those prices. I feel like severe price drops like you describe have not really been seen before apart from zen+ (12nm) when it was literally the honey moon of AMD price/core/performance and AMD were doing all possible to gain market share by offering great value but they were still getting smashed by raw Intel power of the the 8700k (14nm capable of running 5ghz all core).

  • +7

12700K OEM on eBay from Computer Alliance $499 with discount code..

Or did you just want to rant?

      • -6

        Bit of both, tbh

    • You dont like CPUs i. Guessing.. there should be another sale on macadamia nuts again soon.

      • -1

Nah, I like CPUs that work faster for cheaper (Intel)

    • If you’re such an Intel fanboi, this should give you some comedy relief 🀣

  • +1

    Hi guys,
Is 12700KF(around $500 from Futu) better performance and better price than Ryzen 9 5900X? I have been googling and it seems 12700KF is 10% to 15% better? I just don't see the point of getting Ryzen 9 5900X at this price. Please correct me if I was wrong.

    • +3

Slots in to existing AM4 systems.

    • +3

In real world scenario, 10-15% higher benchmark score doesn't mean much.

On video rendering in After Effects for example, 12700kf can beat 5900x in rendering by just 2-3 seconds faster, which is not really that much faster.

Moreover, Intel 12th gen has an extremely high power draw & produce excessive heat to beat AMD's equivalent.

      • I thought I was the only one who turned their back on Intel after they keep sucking juice, creating heat, creating noise.

        • +1

Nope, me too. They've gone brute force with their latest attempts to keep up with AMD.

But also AMD and NVIDIA have jacked up power consumption so much with their latest multicore module offerings that you need to consider a new PSU. It's probably just an industry thing right now.

Hopefully power consumption comes back down. Not a huge fan of big power bills.

    • +3

Aren't higher end motherboards cheaper with AMDs AM4 sockets?, well cheaper then current Intel boards?, ok I haven't been following prices for motherboards on the Intel side (I don't even know what socket they are at) but love too know maybe I'll jump back too the other side with Intel setup, though been loving AMD motherboards/cpus setups for the last 3 years or so, great they've kept to the one socket format for the past 4 years πŸ˜‰

  • Is it worth to get this (or even the 5950x) or wait for next gen/13th gen? Upgrading from i5-6500 btw. Will mostly use to run VM's for my home lab.

    • +2

If you need to upgrade then you need to upgrade, there will always be a next gen / better price around the corner if you keep waiting (putting covid shortages aside)

    • I reckon let price determine your next upgrade,. well about a month ago with eBay vouchers discounts (I think sales too) it came down to $760 ish for a brand new 5950x cpu and certainly when the next Gen comes out should see lower prices for the AMD AM4 socket cpus, unless the new gen releases at a very expensive RRP high price then who knows the opposite might happen,. as per usual time will tell but I could get out my crystal ball and give you a heads start lolz πŸ‘πŸ˜

    • I'm looking to update and I have the same gen as yours (i7-6700k), our processors are 7 years old now lol.

  • Had to replace my 3600 a couple of weeks ago, went with the 5600x. Now these prices are crashing, hopefully it's a good sign of the shortage easing?

    • +6

There never was a CPU shortage. AMD just had a monopoly and elected to squeeze consumers as much as they could get away with. Now Intel are competing with them again they've slashed prices.
GPUs were different thanks to crypto mining, but that's on its way out soon, and the next generation of AMD/Nvidia GPUs are out later this year (September for Nvidia, AMD is unknown).

    • +1

      Why had to?

    • did you notice big improvement after upgrading?
do you game or more work use?

  • Just need an ITX board to pair it with now..

  • +1

Stuck on x370 which will save my wallet

    • I just upgraded my B350 from a 3600 to a used 3900x. keep an eye out for well priced 3000 series chips,

  • For gaming is there much difference between 5600x 5900x and 5950x….these prices are tempting.
    I currently have the 5600x

    • Not much difference and possibly none depending on your Gfx card and resolution you use.

  • got a ryzen 7 5800x 8 core is it worth upgrading to this?

    • Not worth it for gaming IMO, 5800x is pretty good at that, only worth it for productivity, bragging rights or to watch 24 threads in task manager.

  • I have a 3000g CPU is it worth upgrading too this?
Oh my powersupply is 300watts peek

I think the less fortunate should have priority 😊

Edit: what happens when one doesn't sleep for two days

  • Just bought one earlier, and here it is again.

  • Anyone whos upgraded from 3000 series (in particular 3600) notice much improvement with gaming?

  • The delivery guy straight up delivered it to post office.
Can't even pick up because of Good Friday.
    Welp, he saved me $550.
