Hair Straighteners... Which Ones Really Work?

I'm trying to find a hair straightener for my wife that gets good results. The $20 one she bought in Aldi last year was useless. Any recommendations? Happy to pay a premium if it saves on expensive trips to the hair salon.

Thanks.

    GHD.

Used to be GHD was the best. Now it is Cloud 9. I was in a similar situation so went around a bunch of hairdressing salons and asked their opinion. Every single one of them said Cloud 9 > GHD.

      • My friend was set on another GHD but was also told about the Cloud 9, but then she ended out getting this on a deal, she thinks its great without spending too much, don't know what the other 2 really have to offer over it, the Philips appears to have the same technology and control at a much better price if you check their main site for more info, Here. Its also quite well made, it looks and feels premium in the hand.

Has 4.3 Stars out of 118 reviews on Myers

Looks like there is a mothers day deal on their main site too.

My wife swears by GHD and she's never wrong.

Watch out for fakes online. Purchase from a reputable seller in store or GHD direct.

    GHD or Cloud Nine Hair.

  • GHD is probably the go to for a reasonable price

That said I bought my wife the new Dyson one as a present and she LOVES it compared to her old GHD.

Prepare for your wallet to cry tough if you get it, but as you say it might save money in the long run.

    • How much?

      • $6-700 depending on if its on sale

    • wife got the dyson and loves it too
      pricy….

  • Thanks guys. Which GHD model is best?

    • The base model is fine. After that it's just fancy schmancy add on stuff that's not really necessary.

Is her hair just wavy or full on frizz?

      • A bit wavy.

  • My fiance has big frizzy hair - Absolutely loves her cloud nine wide iron https://www.cloudninehair.com.au/products/the-wide-iron
She used to have a GHD - said it was good - but she prefers the cloud nine. (To be fair the GHD was a slim, cloud nine is the wide, so not exactly apples -> appless).

Cloud Nine - the quality of GHDs has declined pretty rapidly over the years - the old ones are great, the new ones so-so.

    • Agreed. Loced my old max. New model is more plasticky (just feels cheaper), the plates don't seem to press as well and the grip isn't comfortable (so much so that it gives me a callus on one of my fingers).

    Hair straighteners are tools.

They all work in the right hand or in the wrong hand can burn the hair or the scalp.

    • head to the Leftorium, they have left handed devices there

Cloud 9 Wide - its the only one worth buying ever! get it!

  • Had to get a new one for my wife in Melbourne lockdown last year and could only find a Philips from TGG same day click and collect.

She's pretty happy with how well it does with her mega curly hair and it has variable temp control.

Cloud 9 for sure… I have frizzy hair and it's all I use

Cloud 9 was founded by one of the original founders of GHD. Anecdotally many people say GHD quality and innovation has dropped in recent years while Cloud 9 has taken over, but I have an old GHD so I can't confirm.

  • GHD or CloudNine.

I've had old ghds and they're good and they last years but longer thicker or frizzier hair needs the cloud9 wide irons.
look for discounts on the cloud9 website as they often seem to have pop up codes for 30% off which makes it slightly more affordable.

  • No idea but there is are some on special in the Broadway NSW Priceline.

There are 3 of them left for $50 bucks each

    Remington Pureluxe3D

    Probably the S9999AU
