    Makes 16L and cheaper

    • Do you mix it with water inside the car's windscreen washer reservoir?

      • +1

Preferably you first mix in a separate container then pour that in the car. The concentrate is a thick liquid and there is not much mixing in the reservoir.

        • Do this liquid clog the system overtime like detergent?

          • +2

            @htc: Should not clog.

The product contains mostly ammonia and some preservative chemicals. It's incredibly similar to OEM window cleaning fluids.

Usually household detergent clogs your vehicle because household detergent is great bacteria food. The bacteria eat it, form a biofilm and block filters/nozzles. This product is very corrosive and toxic to bacteria due to high pH ammonia and the biocides

            • @indemnity:

              No it isn't.

              This product is very corrosive

So it will corrode my car?

        • +1

Nothing a few hard brakes, speed bumps, and donuts can't fix? :P

    • No longer available on website, ozbargained? The 375 mL is the same price, not sure why people will buy the 375 mL. Now only 375 mL available on Repco website. Hope Repco will make the 600mL available again.

  • +1

Buy this once to get the 5L bucket to mix your concentrate

I've been told this is the best washer fluid - 5L concentrate for $15:

this is the best washer fluid

No idea if it's the best but it's better than any other I've used.

    • Thanks. Will get this.

    • +1

Not sure about the description at that Repco link? ;)

'Made from the highest quality 100% natural rubber treated with UV stabilisers'

  • What happen to using a bit of car wash shampoo?

    • +4

I've always used just water and not really noticed the limitations of that. Provided you aren't letting the windows getting rekd first.

  • +4

Go with the concentrates. Cheaper and just mix it in a clean garden plastic watering can and pour away.

Bar's Bugs Windscreen Cleaner (Concentrate) - 5 Litre (Makes 200 Litres) Been using this for more than 6 years

    https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/bars-bugs-bars-bugs-wind…

It was on sale for $10 back then. It has been excellent. Still about a third left… 2 cars

  • How often do you use windscreen washer jets, provided you regularly clean the windscreen?

    • +1

I use it a lot in summer to help the A/C cool the car down after parking in the hot sun. That was when we actually had summer

      • Cooling the windscreen helps the A/C that much?

        • +2

No scientific data but IMO yes. We used to use the same technique to cool cardiac arrest or brain injury patients, I don't see why it won't work for cars. Also car is parked out of cover all the time so its windshield gets grubby quick, so it is used well.

          • +1

@pao2x: I like to pour a 500mL bottle of refilled water onto my windscreen and then immediately run the wipers. Lots of water for an easy clean.

          • +5

            @pao2x: TIL on OzB that
            car = human body
            and
windscreen cooling = cooling heart/brain injured bodies

            :-D

      • Wetting the glass will do nothing when the dash (and everything else in the car) is hot and radiating heat

    Can someone right my wrong?…

What are these windscreen specific washes offering that mixing Windex doesn't?

    • Can you get Windex concentrate in decent pricing?
      I would be interested too.
      PS:
      Also, Windex shower-screen.

    • +2

Based on My encyclopaedia Britannica qualifications I think windex is water and ammonia and washer fluid is more bubbly soap stuff. Come to think of it I don't know what point I'm trying to make.

      • May as well, just mix in some white vinegar with water,
for the windescreen wiper fluid, and make a truly organic solution and cheaply.

    • +2

Can you use Windex in car washer? Sure. Should you? No.

Windex can damage your car washer system and car paint.

Windex is ammonia, isopropanolamine and some speciality detergents+penetrants+fragrance. One of those is 2-hexoxyethanol which will crack rubber seals, plus it's also a great paint stripper.

You will probably notice the washer spray jets and your wipers need replacing more frequently. Maybe even some lighter coloured paint or bubbly paint around the windshield.

But you are right, it is the cheapest per litre,
and will definitely last the next 25 years !

  • +1

For the Windex users out there, don't think the look alike Ajax glass cleaner is a worthy substitute.

    https://www.choice.com.au/compareproducts/home-and-living/la…

  • I get that concentrate is cheaper overall but how long would it take to use this 5L bottle?

    • Not long at all.

  • re-use this bad boy to fill with your own solution

  • Just a drop of light dishwashing liquid in a water reservoir will do and save the environment from more plastic containers from china

    • +2

This is made in Australia, not China
