IMO get it if you need it. The non-XT version of this which I have is extremely cool & quiet, great for 1080- and even some 1440 raster work. Also despite over-sharpening, to me FSR looks excellent even compared to DLSS.

    • if you need a card and haven't bought yet then you're a nub

Interesting that price went up $20 since last week, even though it didn't sell out: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693238

    • Oh no, we're going backwards again

give me 3060 at this price then i buy

    • +4

Spoken like a true Nvidia fanboi ;p

    • 3060 12gb sell for $575.00 - lowest price on static ice. the 6600XT is a faster card and uses less power.. both are no good for ray tracing

New mid/low end gen from AMD and Nvidia coming out at end of this year will stomp all over these cards at the same price point ( we are looking at RTX3090/RX6900XT level performance from mid range at 200w

      • Mid-low end (of a new gen) never comes out until up to around 6 months after the high end cards

      • +1

I don't think the new gen mid/low end gen cards like RTX 4060 will be available at $500-$600, and it probably won't beat a RTX 3090. The RTX 4070 is probably be the card that can beat the RTX 3090 and it will be a lot more expensive again.

        • well on nvidia's side maybe but AMD are aiming at 7700XT being 3090ti level

          • @vid_ghost: Well 7700XT is more a replacement of the 6700Xt, not the 6600XT at these $500-$600 price range.

            • @edfoo: 7700XT has the SAME amount of cores as the 6900XT but it has doubled in the infinity cache :) plus it has more IPC vs RDNA2 and this is the slowest of the new RDNA3 chips … Nvidia are so scared they are releasing a 600W GPU just to stay competitive next generation.

i get chaplets in GPU's are crazy good

              • @vid_ghost: Doesn't matter if 7700XT has the same amount of cores as 6900XT, 7700XT is still the direct model replacement for 6700XT, just like 5700XT before it.

                • @edfoo: rasterization is higher so FPS will be higher.. regardless of its naming.. it will be starting off where the 6900XT left off in performance..

                  • +1

@vid_ghost: 7700XT has higer cache, but the memory bus is gimped to 128 bit, so that will go down again. Also 7700XT will be an 8GB card unfortunately. AMD considers 7700XT as a 1440P card. Overall the 7700XT will be 5% faster OR slower than 6900XT but with lower VRAM. But with Ray tracing on and with better IPC, it should be able to beat the 6900XT in RT games.

                  • +1

@vid_ghost: So what? 7700XT is still the replacement for 6700XT, just like 6700XT is a replacement for 5700XT and we all expected the 6700XT has better rasterization than 5700XT too. Each generation supposedly to bring on improvement from previous model. I don't know where you got the idea the 7700XT is a direct replacement of 6900XT?

You can buy 3060 for lower than this. Just check BPC

Looks like these prices are the normal moving forward…

    • +1

Absolutely, maybe +/- $30-$50 here or there

    • Retailers/distributers are hodling. Don't buy them they'll have no choice but to lower prices.

They may hodl their prices for 3 months on the hope people stop waiting. Even if they're not selling. But eventually they'll be forced to drop prices particularly on these entry level 1080p cards

Uses dual ball bearing fans rather than cheaper sleeve bearing fans typical at this price point

This is wrong, the AMD partners use dual ball bearing fans in all their cards AFAIK. It's Nvidia cards and non-AMD partners (MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS) that often are sleeve bearing, and EVGA and Colorful have hydro bearings.

    • Other cards at this price range i.e. the Gigabyte AMD 6600 XTs posted as prior deals are using sleeve bearing fans. This ASUS non-AMD partner card is clearly using ball bearing fans. Sapphire 6600 XTs and other high quality partner cards are not yet regularly falling to this price as of yet, the description therefore stands

      • Fair enough, but the caveat is really compared to current deals at this current time, because this card was historically more expensive than the better partner cards.

  • 6600 xt worth the extra $110 over 6600? I have a 1440p monitor but I don't care about running it at max settings or 100+ fps.

    • Depend on what games you are playing. 6600XT can’t get you 100fps at 1440p at High graphics setting, on some of the recent AAA games.

      • I should've said I don't really care about high fps count. If I get 60fps it's already good enough.

I'm hoping to be able to play games like Cyberpunk and Horizon Dawn. My GPU died last year and is currently using a GT1030 for old multiplayer games.

        ty

        • Ah Cyberpunk 2077, this highly demanding game. Between 6600 and 6600XT, I would personally choose the 6600XT just to be sure I can play 1080p at High graphics setting at 60fps.

        • The other thing to consider is if 1 game is really worth hundreds of dollars. ie skip cyberpunk and save $100-$200 along with the cost of the game itself. By the time the game isn't bugged it'll probably be more optimized anyway. And next gen will be around.

You could skip cyberpunk grab a $450 rx6600. I'd weigh up if you need the 6600xt for any other games in the short term. Buggy cyberpunk isn't worth a dollar tbh. The game was highly anticipated but for all the wrong reasons.. as a marketing plug for raytracing not because it's a good game.

    • well the 6600XT is 14% faster :) but costs 21% more

  • For you see the price is much too strong

  • Gamers that are waiting for 3M for the Ethereum Merge will be disappointed. They should set their expectation for 2023.

Miners will continue to put pressure on the price of GPU to go up to the right. Buy it now or pay more later.
