I'm not quite sure what's going on with this item. As you can see by the typo in the title not all is right. Most of the negative reviews seem to stem from customers who bought this thinking it was a 14TB drive. If it's legit it looks like they are price matching the Good Guys. With TGG, you'll need to pay postage as it's an online order only. Postage for me shows as $5. I understand there will be people who say to avoid this drive. No, it's not the best drive, but not everyone can fork out $300+ on a drive.

It's being shipped and sold by Amazon AU, but I'm not sure if you're getting an AU version or a US version. Buyer beware I guess.

Just for reference, other places selling Seagate 6TB drives right now:

Officeworks $269
JB Hi-Fi $234

  • SMR or CMR? would it be BarraCuda Pro inside?

  • Looks like just a decent deal and not amazing deal? Similar cost per TB as some of the 18TB deals lately?

Like I said in my post, some people can't afford $300 or won't spend $300 on a drive. This would be great for my dad. Conversation with my dad:

Dad: Buy me a hard drive
Me: What's your budget? (Knowing my Dad goes supernova when you ask how much he wants to spend on anything.)
Dad (triggered): Just buy me the biggest drive you can buy
Me: The big ones are pretty expensive. How much is the most you want to spend?
(Mom now standing in between us making sure we don't start fighting)
      Dad: $200

      • My first question would have been……..what's it for and how much Data is actually required. Keeping in mind that external drives fail so as long as it is not the sole location for any data that is important. In many instances, one needs a second external as a backup of the first :-)

        • That's an even dicier question. Would need to ask that behind one of those SWAT shields.

He has so many hard drives, some of them still unopened in boxes on the floor. My parents are hoarders. Not quite TV material but pretty bad nonetheless.

        • I always tell people if the only copy of your data is on the backup drive then it's not backed up.

        Me: But it's SMR!
Dad: No thanks then, they're shite

Dad: No thanks then, they're shite

          Un-informed claptrap!

  • Everything up to and including 8tb in the current Seagate expansion range is smr, 10tb+ is not.

    • I guess wd is the same

  • Thanks OP, picked one up from OW with a price match.
