1TB EVO 970 Plus at $153 delivered if you have Prime, been watching out for a decent deal on this, not the lowest ever but pretty good.

The 2TB is $304.05 have not been watching that so don't know if a good deal or not….

Credit to @OZKap for pointing out this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/694749 which is much better for the 2TB and is better for the 1TB if you care about the steam credit rather than cold hard cash! (and Amazon return policy). I can't vouch for BPC but they seem to get a good rap on here as well.

Edit: Amazon.com.au is on the list for the $20 steam credit https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-steam-wallet-codes-2022… but seems to be explicitly excluded from the credit for the EVO drives. *Portable SSD T7 Touch & T7 models only. Excludes SSD 980 PRO, 970 EVO Plus, 870 EVO and 870 QVO models.

1tb 970 evo plus $165 Delivered (plus $20 Steam Wallet)

    2TB $285 Delivered ($40 Steam Wallet)

    • +1

yea that is better, also the 1tb 980 evo on that page comes to $159 if you count the steam wallet code, not to mention the heatsink and better performance which basically makes it a much better deal imo (at least if you use steam and would benefit from the steam code like i would)

      strongly considering that one now…

    • Thanks that's a better deal on the 2tb. Not sure if the one i posted will qualify for steam bonus or not…

    • Looks like Amazon also qualified for the Steam credit https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-steam-wallet-codes-2022…

      • +2

I don't believe Amazon US will be eligible since it is not sold by Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd. Besides, if you look at the PDF, it has asterisks, it says

*Portable SSD T7 Touch & T7 models only. Excludes SSD 980 PRO, 970 EVO Plus, 870 EVO and
        870 QVO models.

        https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-steam-wallet-codes-2022…

        • That's weird been advertised as qualifying all over the place. I assume that would also disqualify the other deals showing this credit? I've purchased it through Amazon.com.au so I'm hoping it will qualify. Where is delivered from shouldn't matter?

          • @endor: Let us know how you go!

            • +3

@cloudie9: Will do. It'll be intersting because it says "Offer valid on participating Samsung SSD purchased from Samsung online store or a Participating Store" then in the list of stores is has Amazon link which points to Amazon.com.au Samsung page where it has the EVO 970Plus listed at $153.

The PDF shows the 970 EVO Plus as qualifying….

but you're right it states for Amazon:
*Portable SSD T7 Touch & T7 models only. Excludes SSD 980 PRO, 970 EVO Plus, 870 EVO and 870 QVO models

              …well that sucks balls :)

I'll remove that bit from the deal. Thanks.

  • Does anyone know how to clone your current internal SSD so I don't have to install all the software that I have if I want to replace the SSD? Cheers.

One of the main reasons I'm choosing Samsung, they provide software for free to do exactly that. Have done it a few times, never had any problems.

      https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/t…

Samsung Data Migration software is designed to help users quickly, easily, and safely migrate all of their data – including their current operating system, application software, and user data – from their existing storage device (e.g. HDD) to their new Samsung SSD.

      • Do you have to install the software or it can be run from a usb similar to clonezilla?

        • +1

I think you'll probably have to install it. I've never tried it off a usb, i assume you mean a bootable usb?

          • @endor: Yep boot from usb to image the system ssd onto another usb or network drive. And then restore the image onto the new ssd

  • New to PCs and SSDs - do these need a heatsink?

    • +1

Not really, but if you have a heatsink available, then you should use it, as it would allow your case fans to expel the heat much faster.

NVMe SSDs will throttle if they get too hot, but that will only occur if you're reading / writing massive amounts of data 24/7, and even then they'll still perform quite well. In laptops you won't typically have the option to use a heatsink.

  • 970 no.

980 maybe, if you don't have good airflow in your case.

Recommended if you're putting it in a playstation.

For a pc based on my research personally i wouldn't bother. You can buy the heatsink seperately on its own after if you find it's running too hot.

  • Anyone attempted to process the steam credit? I get invalid S/N and can't submit.

  • Can you believe i am still waiting for this to be delivered from Amazon US. Hit our shores on 20th April, suspect someone has helped themselves to it. Got to wait until thurs to get a refund.

Seems clear steam credit does not apply to amazon purchase.

    • yeah i missed the update and one of the comments above when i purchased. at least i did actually need the SSD and the price was still good.

I'm only out $10 worth so not the end of the world!

      • Games are generally more expensive from Steam anyway.

Glad you got your drive. Mine got "lost in the post" so someone at auspost is enjoying a new drive. At least Amazon refunded me.
