Cheapest Way to Obtain a Metal Card

Hi there, I know this is a bit of a strange question but have been Googling options for getting a metal card.

Not to actually use it, but to have one with my name printed on it because I like the look of it.

It seems that signing up and then cancelling the Revolut metal card after 14 days, seems to be the way to go. Would have to pay for the monthly subscription fee and the break fee, but would work out to be $75-100 AUD.

I've also checked out CarbonCoSkins and Crypto.com for their metal cards, but Revolut seems to be the cheapest.

Has anyone else here done something similar?

$100 for a metal visa card that you can't use? Why?

    • +3

Agree. I had to google this thing. Who uses cards these days anyway?

      • +5

Move over plastic. Metal credit cards are growing in popularity, with many consumers keen to get their hands on what has now become a status symbol.

Sounds like a weird flex, but ok.

        • +2

Nobody GAF about metal cards. Especially after COVID, who wants to touch someone else's card when the majority of transitions are tap and go?

        • +1

Wouldn't a black credit card be much more of a status symbol than a metal debit card you can just buy?

          • -3

@brendanm: Already had a black ANZ credit card. I just want the metal feel.

            • +10

              @adrianhughes1998: Wrap in alfoil
              .

              • +1

                @Nugs: That's what I do.

Now everytime is tap, I get money instead. Winning.

I got money and I want the look and feel of one cos I've never experienced it. Just looking for the cheapest way to go about acquiring one.

      • +8

Whatever floats your strange little boat I suppose.

        • +1

Maybe you can service his strange little boat. Maybe not 🙂

        • -2

Well the thread is about getting a metal card on the cheap, not what people's opinions on a hobby are.

      • +9

I got money and I want the look and feel of one cos I've never experienced it. Just looking for the cheapest way to go about acquiring one.

This is contradictory - if you "got money", you don't need to look for the cheapest way of acquiring a metal card. Should quit being a tosser, are you intending to buy a fake Rolex with your new metal card too?

          • +2

@adrianhughes1998: Having a metal card with your name on it is not a hobby.

Making metal cards with people's names on them could be a hobby.

            • -1

@brendanm: Collecting credit cards is a hobby right. Geez do I have to explain everything?

              • @adrianhughes1998:

Collecting credit cards is a hobby right.

                No, it's not.

                • @brendanm: And what hobbies do you have?

                  • @adrianhughes1998: Plenty, even vacuuming the edges of my house would be classed as a better hobby than collecting non-working credit cards.

I assume you've used all your negs now 😂

          • +3

            @adrianhughes1998:

No one asked for your opinions.

You literally made a thread on a forum. If you didn't want opinions, don't make a thread.

Should I shit all over your hobbies? Or your wife's?

Getting a metal card with your name on it is not a hobby.

If you have the money, go apply for a Amex Plat Charge, and get the metal card. If you don't have the money, then quit being a tosser and trying to impress people, then get mad when others call out your BS.

You do you, but if you're really born in 1998, you should get a handle on life man. Think about what 40 year old you would think about 24 year old you trying to buy a status symbol on the cheap.

        • +1

          haha - I think you've just said what's on everyone's mind! 🤣

      • +1

There's plenty of peeps on here with an Amex Plat charge, go post on the classifieds - $5 let me try holding your metal card, scratch that itch, done.

        • Extracurricular idea but one nonetheless:)

  • It's the Gen Y 😎 factor.

    • +3

      I'm leaning towards a Zoomer vibe/behaviour…

I don't really know what this question meansz but I think my crypto.com visa is metal?

    • Mine is too 🤔

I don’t get it, is this like a secret vanity plate for your wallet or are you going to show it off on a desk or something?

If you aren’t planning on using it why not just get a metal business card? My work used to get snarky business cards/desk plates made up before the pearl clutchers took over, they were about $30 for a piece of engraved metal with either a brushed or polished finish.

    • -1

Vanity plate correct. Metal business card is an idea, thanks

      • +1

Not cheap at $220, but this may be a Business Card option.

        Has a Perth Address:

        Mobilo APAC

        Australia

        • +1

Cheaper to get this Revolut card and cancel it about half the price :(

Thank you for the suggestion though 😃

          • +2

@adrianhughes1998: It shouldn’t cost anywhere near that much for a simple metal business card. I’ve seen them as cheap $3 each when buying 100 at a time.

Search google and Etsy for laser engraved plaque, metal business card, engraved trophies and similar key words and you should find something affordable. Even aliexpress might be useful.

I would give you the number of the place we used to use but the guy went out of business during covid lockdowns as most of his business was from engraving trophies and commemorative plaques which hardly anyone wanted for a long period of time.

  • So you can’t use it at all? Why get it

  • +1

Not exactly cheap, but perhaps the Crypto.com ruby card, $500 stake which can be withdrawn after 6 months.

    Metal card
    100% Spotify cashback (in crypto)
2% cashback for all other purchases (in crypto)

    • I did consider it but I know I won't be caring much for the staking or benefits that card offers. So just want the metal feel with the credit card look and my name on it. Therefore looking for the cheapest way to do it haha

  • +1

This would work if your name was Stainless Steel.

There are mobs that have metal business cards that u tap on the persons smart phone to share contacts. None that I can find within Australia though.

  • You can get a customisable fake centurion card off eBay if you want haha.

  • Don't give your metal card to Robert McCall. Also, make sure you give him a 5 star rating.

  • +2

These guys seem to do what you're after, just sign up for whatever bank you want, send them your card and they'll clone it onto a metal card.
Although still question the flex factor of having a metal card that isn't an AMEX or Qantas Titanium. Not that people earning that much would really care what people thought of their credit card.

    Simplez.

    • +1

This actually looks quite cool. Not $250 cool, but …

      • That's my point. Don't wanna pay that much :/

    • Thanks mate yeah CarbonCoSkins or whatever it's called seems to do it a tad cheaper. Still options be options.

  • +1

So just want the metal feel

    Try using coins.

Voila.. you have metal for payment thrills….

    • +1

He wants his name on it, not the queen’s

  • +1

I had the Citi Prestige but cancelled it last month. I'm pretty sure it's metal. Quite heavy too. Otherwise the Amex Platinum is metal as well. Crypto.com is a good one too.

  • +1

Who even uses an actual physical wallet these days??

    • -2

People that have a metal card.

  • It’s not a flex if you are looking for the cheapest way to have it lol. I can smell your cheapness from here, no metal card is going to help you.

    • Never said it was going to be a flex, where did I say that? Said I like the look of it and not going to use it.

Lots of people assuming here incorrectly that I want to show it off. Facepalm.

      • Bro your fetish is funny but you do you. Respect!

  • Is this what the Gen Z's are into these days?
