Sucks doesnt work for standard rego

  • -1

I renew my rego every year March. Come here to see any discounts
and I see this offers in April & August every year.
    My blood boils.

    • +8

Then renew for 6 months only and change your cycle!

      • -1

thought about it but going through a pink slip worth $40 after 6 Months will defeat the purpose.
Discount with code on plate of $111 = $22
        Pink slip =$40
Having said that, your idea does work for cars under 5 years age who dont need pink slip

        • +2

You only pay the pink slip once in the 12 month cycle - if you renew for 6 months, you don't have to get a pink slip at the next renewal.

          • -1

@the-fuzz: That's news to me, I am just going through the renewal cycles here

            https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-infos…

If I renew 6 months from march to September for discount,
I can only renew for another 6 months with the pink slip.
If I want to go for 12 months cycle to reset it to September, I need pink slip ($40)
I have to keep playing this 6 months renewal forever to qualify for one discount a year.
Too much hassle if I have to renew twice every year. Wish I could do it just once to reset and do yearly later on.

            • +2

@umansPrimitiveNature: At the end of your 2nd 6-month cycle, you change back to 12 months - you are then in the same position, but you got the plates discount.

            • +1

@umansPrimitiveNature: Look at the last 2 lines in the line graph on the link you said

Focusing on the 2nd last line, you do 1 6 month period, do a pink slip then you can renew for 12 months and keep doing 12 month renewals after that.

You essentially waste 1/2 the cost of a pink slip ($21) in the first year, then every year after that save whatever the offer is on the myplates

    • I thought this doesn't work on rego?

  • +6

i hate how you have to pay a yearly fee for this bs

back in the days it was a once off fee

    • +2

      Like Qld 😏

    • yeah.. having to pay every year makes my blood boil….

    • Move to WA 😜

      • once off fee for rego plates?

        • For custom plates, yep. Did I mention there’s no tolls too? 😉

        • And up to 8 letters I think. VIC only allows 6 last time I checked.

    • yep i had a personalised back in the day.

but when I sold my car, went back to standard plates.

    • +8

i hate how you have to pay a yearly fee for this bs

Let's get real. You don't have to have custom plates on your car.

This is an optional vanity tax. Nothing more. Nothing less.

To live in the best state you gotta pay extra 😂

    • Good old privatisation by the NSW gov. The 15 year lease is suppose to run out in 2025. So fingers crossed it goes back to being government run and the removal of a yearly fee.

  • +8

    Yes, it's available

I'd say scotty should get this. But I also feel like having personalised plates goes against the ethos of ozbargain…

      • +3

If it was a once off fee, I'm sure it would have been done by now.

I guess the benefit is that no one plate gets hoarded and removed from the market for all of eternity like it does in other states..

    • Ozbragging?

  • +1

if you get this and pay 20% discount, i'm assuming that come by next year then if theres another 20% discount then you can use this to also renew it?

checking on previous posts, it seems this is the similar time they have been doing the 20% discount so i should get a customised plate on 30/4 and then keep a look out for next year for the next 20% discount code for the renewal

    • Correct!

    • +3

I thought this only applied on the order fee (i.e. the "once off" component, what they call the "style cost"), and not the annual fee?

      • oh yeah, i thought it was 20% off the annual fee.
grrr so annoying, still a saving but still was hoping the annual fee was 20% off

  • +1

Discounts after a very long time - Outsourced vendor does not see any reason to offer regularly.

Prior to ordering a custom plate a couple of weeks ago, I emailed them if there were any discounts and also picked another related issue where the plates had faded. Unfortunately, they did not offer any discounts but it turns out they can replace a plate within 7 years if there are visible signs of fading.

    • +1

The discount is around every Mothers/Fathers day yearly

  • If we own two cars, How do we get to know with which car the new custom number plate is getting registered as there is no option on the website to select particular car.

Or does the registration happens when we swap the old plates with new one.

Sorry for basic question but I am getting my new car in next 3-4 weeks and planning to get custom plate. So don’t want to order custom plates for old car by mistake.

    • It ask you to enter the registration number of car you want to replace.

  • Does VIC have an annual fee too?

    • +2

No annual fee in Vic for customised plates.

  • My car already has a personalised unique number plate, without this extra cost.

  • what happens if you buy this customised plate number, then after 1 year you can't afford it, what happens after that, do you go back to the original plate number or they give you some random plate number?

  • Rip off

$475 annual fee for personalised content and $400 for Euro plate. 20% off just the Euro plate isnt anything

    https://postimg.cc/kRXXbXPy

    • you can get your existing non-personalised plate restyled in euro plate. usually I have done this with cars that came with the ugly yellow and black plates.

      • And still pay $400?
Edit : I think I understand now. 20% off the $400 cost of reprinting yr plate. But the annual fee will remain the same forever. This 20% is not on the recurring annual fee, but on the production costs.

This way, they hook you into the system and bleed you every year. Like a gym membership that gives you 20% off joining fees but then charges you your scalp every year.

        • you can get your existing non-personalised plate restyled without having to pay any annual fee

  • How does it work if I want to secure some plates for a car I do not own yet? Can I keep it at Service NSW until the car arrives to avoid paying the annual fee?

    • you want to reserve plates for free? lulwut?

you can keep reserve them but you pay the annual fee. you’re only charged the manufacturing fee when the plate is actually pressed

    • Go with new vehicle option and
You need to collect with in 60 days if you ordered the plates

If you are expecting car will not be available with in next 60 days then I wouldn’t suggest you to order the plates

And annual fee will start as soon as you collect the plates

  • +2

cant have LGOPNR as someone found out

    • Lol it took me a good 15 seconds

  • +1

There is only one personalized plate IMHO :
    'wanka'

  • does anyone know, if Vic. does this kind of sale ??

    • Vic plates can be kept without an annual fee, so I think that's a sale in itself

      • yeah stupid NSW decided to introduce annual fees for some stupid reason.

        • Make $$$$ off us, why else?

Add speed cameras and tolls to that list too.

  • IMO, the title is a bit misleading or could be written better.

    It should read:
