    • +33

      Coles not Target

      • +1

Not sure if purpose pun or actually serious

        • +1

          lol bit of both

  • +36

lol i got $5 cashback on $100 spend at coles.. otherwise this would be a pretty fantastic deal (just buy gift cards instore)
if you got targeted i hate you

    • +1

Same. 30% off is amazing though.

    • Same! So don't feel too bad about it.

I'd be even happier with $60 off $200 spend.

    • I got that $5 off one too. I wasn’t sure if Commbank was taking the piss or not.

    • Same 5/100, pass.

    • Same boat here but it expires soon so I'm gonna keep checking for the good one.

    • Same pinch.

    • You think there teasing by holding back the offer lol

Edit: so we're is thus deal meant to show up, Target app or Combank app?

      • +1

If you received the offer it would be in the Comm Bank app in the rewards area. Also it's for Coles not Target! :)

        • +1

          Thanks whoops yupz coles👍😁

    • +1

Same … i also used the previous offers so maybe those receiving $60 for 200 spend didn't take advantage of previous offers?

I feel left out. Its like being picked last to play football in school all over again.

  • Can someone confirm if you can buy any GC with this deal?

    • +1

i would imagine so, i don't believe commbank has any way to tell what you purchased

    • -1

      excludes GC

      • +1

Worst case you end up with $200 GC for $200..but if it works..

    • +3

I always buy giftcards at Coles with this kind of deal. Works every time :)

      • Used to be the case for me but the last time I tried, I noticed they had specifically noted does not include giftcard (not sure if it was there before). Sure enough, I didn't get the cashback that time. Haven't received the offer since then though.

        • +5

But how does a bank know your purchases?

          • @PeeDee: Sorry I don't have the answer to that. Just sharing my past experience.

        • How recently? I bought $200 worth of Amazon cards in time for prime day last year (and a bottle of coke-zero as I was thirsty) and my transaction was approved … ?

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/625725

          • @MorriJ: It was definitely more recent than this. Don't have the exact date though…
I made a giftcard purchase around the start of May which got approved so it was still working then.

            • @excusemesir: My lastest one was approved on April 1st but I didn’t notice if there were conditions regarding giftcards.

A financial institution does not have access to what you purchased at a merchant, unless they obtain a copy of the purchase receipt from you. Without the purchase receipt, they would only have access to basic information from the merchant, such as:

          • The name of the merchant that you purchased from

          • The amount you spent

          • The merchant category code (MCC) for the merchant you were at.1

For example, if you spent $100 on groceries at Coles and used a card from your financial institution as a payment method, your financial institution would see that you spent $100 from a Coles, and that Coles used MCC 5411 (which categories it as a supermarket). One time, I spoke to my financial institution to see what the MCC was for two separate transaction at Coles: one transaction was groceries only and the other transaction was gift cards only. I was told that the MCC for both transactions was 5411 (which correlates to a supermarket), and they said they had no way of knowing what was purchased; they could only tell that something was purchased.

AFAIK, the MCC at Coles would only change if you request cashout in that transaction. For example, if you were spending $100 on groceries in a transaction and asked for $50 cashout in that same transaction, the MCC changes from 5411 to some random general MCC.

If you see excludes purchases of gift cards in the terms for an in-store cashback offer, it usually just means that your financial institution won't help you if automatic cashback tracking fails for whatever reason and you ask them to investigate why you didn't automatically receive cashback.

          1. MCCs are four digit numbers defined in ISO 18245, and some financial institutions (e.g. Citibank) publish a list of MCCs on their website.

Can confirm that Coles Myer gift card definitely works. Had a previous offer of this kind and got the credit.

    • For future reference, yes, gift cards worked.

Also worth noting: my wife and I share CBA accounts. Curiously she got the good offer and I got the lousy one. She activated hers and I purchased GC on my card. Tracked fine.

  • Nothing on mine, hopefully it (something) will show.

  • +2

Recieved 30$ off on 150$ Spend

    • +1

Same. Not as good as OPs deal.

  • +1

    Comm bank rewards is useless.

    I think I got a $10 off Maccas. Once for a $20 spend

This is over 10 years banking.

    • +1

Nah I’ve used a few of them, prolly saved ~$100 or so since they rolled out the program.

      Nothing to sneeze at.

  • 60 for 200 here. Thanks for the heads up OP.

  • I got $10 off $100 this time, a bit surprised, previously I only got $5 cashback on $100 spend at coles. Thanks OP.

    • Did you skip the previous deal and so they bumped it up this time?

      • +1

I took it every time when I got it, coz I shop at Coles weekly, my last CBA Coles offer was in Mar, but only $5. I had received several CBA Coles offer before, but always $5, rarely $10. Not sure exactly why I got $10 this time.

      • +1

I skipped the previous deal in March and still got $5 off $100 this time.

  • +1

Damn not bad, I only got $5 back on $100 spend.

I guess that's CBA's way of punishing me for transferring out my pay whenever I receive it to UBank, and not keeping any of my savings with them hahaha. I wonder if the rewards you get are directly correlated with your balance or the amount of money you spend via CBA issued debit/credit cards?

    • +3

I got 60 and my best guess was it was based on the frequency of not shopping at Coles vs other supermarkets. Ie. Why target someone who's already going to spend their money at Coles anyway.

      • This is the answer. I got offered $20 for spending $100, may take this one up

      • ooh interesting that would mean commbank is basically selling our spending data to them. This is a pretty good offer but some others are borderline spammy like the hellofresh or foxtel ones i got a few weeks ago

  • +3

    got 5$ with 100$ again 🥴🥴😵‍💫😵‍💫

  • -1

Lol $5 for spending $100 here

  • $10 for $200 :(

    • Same but spend lots at coles.

      • I do a lot of small purchases like drinks.
But add this with a flybuys offer and if you know an employee 10% off right now. Wouldn’t be too bad.

  • Never know Commbank reward until now. Just Op-in and got chemist warehouse cash back instead of Coles

  • $5 for $100 :(

  • $10 for $100

  • most likely getting $5 cashback, $60 nope :(

  • How often does commbank do similiar rewards like this? I just joined and waiting on my card to arrive.

  • I got $5 off if I spend $100.. asshokes

  • 10 off 100. Meh

  • Actually scored the $60 off aswell.

  • Got 0

  • Donuts on my app

  • How do you spend $200 at coles?

    • Frozen goodies

    • Have kids and buy nappies and formula

    • Fill a trolley
      .

  • Wow, 60 off 200 is huge. You must be a massive Woolies fan so they're trying to pull you in lol

  • I had this offer previously but never received the cash back. I think it was because I got it delivered on the last day of the offer on a Sunday, after ordering and paying on a Saturday, and it took until the start of the week for the payment to process, so maybe try to get this done and paid for before any final weekend.

    • +1

Maybe best to pay in store as another issue could be an out of stock item which would result in the $200 min spend not being met.

      • Yep that's definitely another risk to consider, especially since stock levels have been so unreliable lately.

  • $5 off $100, couldn't be bothered!

  • Please please please, eBay gift cards here I come, ok time to login let's see if I've been targeted lolz 👍🤑

Edit: and a big yada, nope, nothing and no

  • Got it. Now to check the catalogue….
    .

  • We'll show you rewards if you have eligible card…… Ouch!

  • Everyone complaining about $10 off $100.

    I got $10 off $200!

Clearly based on your Coles shopping frequency (linked to flybuys?). I got $5 off $15 from Chemists Warehouse, which I never shop at

  • Mine only $10 off for $200 spend so appears it may be based on spending habits (or just random).

  • I got $10 for $100. Never use Comm mcard at Coles but always use flybuys so🤔🤨🧐

  • I got $10 off $200.
Does anyone know whether it works if I use Google Pay (via comm card)?

  • I got $5 for $100. Never use this account for anything other than SB and transferring between accounts. So seems random to me. Also got the $5 off %15 CW offer. Will just the latter as have plenty of Prezzee 5% off GC.

  • +2

For those who pulled the 60 /200 min spending , don't mind if I ask. Do you have a loan of some sort with commonwealth bank

    • +1

Nope. Think someone else's suggestion of mostly shopping at other grocery stores has some weight to it. I rarely go to Coles.

      • +1

        Yep same here.

        Rarely go to Coles.

Had 2 x home loans with CBA awhile back but only everyday account now.

  • Does anyone know how I can claim cash back? or it does in automatically?
then how long it would take to get cash back?

    • It happens automatically. Can take a week or so.

  • +2

Used my offer to buy the Coles Mastercard gift cards. Got message today that it wad successfully claimed. Have not received the money yet, but looks like it worked.

    • Same for me. I ended up buying Coles gift card + another grocery item to just to ensure it does not get declined as it was all gift cards!

    • $200 worth of Apple gift cards here.. also got the message in the app that $60 was heading my way.

    • +1

Where do u find the message on commbank app that it was successfully claimed? I did coles and chemist warehouse and didn’t get any message that it was successfully claimed? I purchased yesterday and today

      • Same. Purchased at Coles a few days ago. No sign of it being successful yet.

      • In the notifications section on the first screen and it appeared in my iOS notifications… Android be be different. Got the Chemist Warehouse notification also, even though i used it for a prescription which was against the conditions. So it seems the conditions of use dont mean much as noted above.

  • this is racist commbank rewards
