I never knew earth week meant there would be a sale on computers.
I guess they are refurbs so that's going to save the planet.

  • Does Lenovo M910q support low profile gpu?

    • +1

No, none of the tiny/mini/micro ~ 1L computers suport LP graphics cards.

      • Hi mate, actually yes,
Some Lenovo tiny machines can use single slot LP graphic card. For example, Tiny P330, P340, m920q.
I am using an additional network card on it.

        • Where do your source the riser card and the network card? I tried looking for them but the ones I can find were quite expensive

          • @CoronavirusVaccine: From Aliexpress.
            Yes, very expensive relatively.

            • @misomiso: Was so tempted to get the 4 port NIC but it costs so much might as well just use a separate managed switch.

              Still fantasize about it though….

There are some Chinese vendors selling an one port expansion that is a mini PCIe that slots into the wifi card slot. Very tempted by those too - a much cheaper solution than the riser card option but only for gigabit

              • @CoronavirusVaccine: I think the better choice is to get a 10gbe nic card.

                • @misomiso: That makes sense when you have other 10gbe equipment.

Do you know how much power do your 10gbe equipments consume? Curious and would love to get some reference points

Personally I am sticking with 1gbe at home - mainly to keep power consumption low, and also my use case doesn't actually saturate 1gbe.

                  • @CoronavirusVaccine: Just did some google research.
It looks like a modern 10gbe nic cosumes less than 4 watts.

                    https://www.servethehome.com/qsfp-v-sfp-v-10gbase-t-testing-…

                    • @misomiso: Thank you for this useful reference.

From memory 1gbe ports are about 0.5W - 0.7W each, and these figures are per port. So while each port the difference might be small, they do add up quickly in terms of operating costs. Obviously if the use case demands it then definitely it's a small amount to pay. But if the use case don't make use of it, then the additional outlay for the equipment and operating costs are a waste.

Other than content creators needing to scrub/edit high-res videos, I've also read running VMs over vSANS can also benefit from high bandwidth networks. Haven't ever had to do those myself though

      • STH viewer spotted!

  • What are the ports available on Lenovo M910q?

    • +1

      Front I/O 2 x USB3.0 (1 for fast charge) 2 x Audio (1 combo) Rear I/O 4 x USB 3.0 2 x DP

      • Ethernet?

        • Yes

  • Does the optiflex has free memory slot for expansion?

    • +1

      In terms of expandability

The machines have 2 x Ram slots (Ram configuration may be mixed) they also are able to have 1 x 2.5" SSD and 1 x M.2

      They make awesome plex servers.

      • thanks , one more question does it support 4k video output on hdmi?

        • -8

          The silence is deafening.

        • +1

TBH I've never done it before. But I couldn't see why it wouldn't. Google is saying Yes though.

        • -1

          It doesn't have HDMI… 2x DP…

          • +2

@starcub: 1x HDMI and 1x DP shown in the picture.

            • @HomeAlone: sorry I mixed up with the Lenovo M910q comment above.

        • If it's not an HDMI 2.0 port then you can always use an active Display Port to HDMI 2.0 adaptor for 4K60 output 👍

So it's not a show-stopper if you find the HDMI can only do 4K30.

      • Can you pricematch it on your eBay store too?
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/193910789497

        • no sorry

      • Hi, just wondering if this would make a good untangled or pfsense router if i add a usb ethernet for a second slot?

  • -6

No wifi antenna so assuming no wifi connection

    • +11

Wifi is either USB Wifi or Internal Wifi depending on device availability.

Geez. Did you bother reading the OP

  • +1

anything like this spec with 3.5" drive? doesn't have to be micro form factor.

    • You can just connect a 3.5" drive via USB…

  • I think the deal yesterday was much better?

    • +1

Yeah and it’s still available. With eBay plus it’s even cheaper by a few bucks but run the risk of no having Wi-Fi and keyboard/mouse bundle.

  • Does anyone know the max thickness of 2.5 HDD? Can it take a 15mm thick 5TB?

    • +2

      too thick for her

      • +2

Yeah, although looks like with some very minor modding you can make it work.

Hmmm could be a good plex server (my i5-3470S works fine, wonder if its worth it for power consumption savings).

        • And torrent box. whats the psu

  • +1

Can I plug this into my TV and play C&C Zero hour?

  • Hi All, any recommendations for streaming CCTV footage. We have some warehouse feeds that we view in the office via Easy Client. Would this handll 24/7 live streaming of 4 camera feed?

    • Whats resolution of cameras?
Storage might be an issue. 3.5 HDD is usually desirable.

      • +1

Just live view of the cameras, that are off site. So just streaming the view really. Full HD

    • If you can enable hardware decoding (quiksync) it might be ok, but unless space is at a premium id look at the slightly larger sff pcs that have the 65w tdp cpus not the 35w one in this one (denoted by the T suffix) as it is relatively underpowered.

  • windows 11 only supported on gen 8 and later ….. any gen 8 deals ?

    • Desktop or Laptop?

      • Desktop for me

        • +1

Nothing on the desktops at the moment.

Although "Technically" is not supported. If you enable secure boot and the machines already have TPM you can clean install Windows 11 with no issues at all.

          • +2

            @Calmago:

            with no issues at all.

Except that it's slow … stick to W10 on these older devices

            • @mlakmlak: Can second this. It’s way too slow on W11 if the CPU is unsupported. Don’t bother.

  • +1

    Hi
Dont suppose you have anything with 16gb/32gb RAM and 1tb SSD minimum?

    • +1

Better off getting the CPU specs you want and then just adding in your own Samsung/Crucial SSD yourself, especially if you want it for long-term usage.

  • +4

OP is there a discount for no Windows installation?

  • can this drive two 27inch 4k displays?

  • I know this is not common but do you happen to have any sff that has 2 LAN ports? TIA.

  • Hi op, how many units do you have?
Is there a limit to how many 1 person can buy at this price?
How long is the promo on for?

    • +1

Amazon cart suggests that there is currently 106 units available.

I'm being presented with a 10% discount in addition to a 20% coupon.
Seems the first unit is discounted by $101.70 (30%), the additional units are then discounted by $33.90 (10%)

      • Great, thanks for the info!

  • +1

Nabbed one! But I hope I get a real Dell Optiplex and not an Opitplex as advertised

  • +1

Is the deal expired ? it seems to be 305 after discount ?

    • +1

I have 237 at checkout with coupon applied

  • does the m.2 support NVME ssd?

  • I have just bought one for $237.30, after applying the 10% and 20% discounts.

My old Pentium PC is so slow, it cannot use Edge as a browser.

    • +2

Try installing Linux Mint on your old PC. I did that on my old dual core PC & it works fine for basic use.

  • This or the deal from yesterday? for basic uses

  • I bought today the [Refurb] Dell 7040 Micro i5 6500t 8GB 256GB Win 10 $237.30 delivered.

  • Can I add a mechanical 3.5" HDD to this machine?

  • Can this support 1440p 120 Hz ?

  • Which one is a better value? Lenovo or Dell?

  • +1

This is the main desktop machine for dept of defence for over 4 years.

Majority of the problems with them is the ssd drives failing as they getting close to peak mtbf

    • A lot of cyclers put a new ssd in these with a fresh install. Not sure about this deal.

For me these are perfect to go under a tv for those times you just need a pc or for a work from home backup. My elderly patents used this for online shopping during covid on a 60 inch TV and I use one as a torrent box with an external drive for bulk storage of a shared drive. VLC on each firestick can see that for simple sharing. Small quiet and do the job for 1080p viewing g and better over sharing to a compatable device.

  • bought 2 Dells and 2 Lenovos great deal hopefully the SSDs will last

  • are they built in wifi card or come with a wifi dongle?

    Thanks

    • Read the item description

  • Can I add a mechanical 3.5" HDD to this machine?

    • No. These can take one 2.5" drive

    • Yes but you'll need to put it into a $10 eBay case and connect it via USB 👍
There's no room inside the chassis.

  • Im new to this but will this have Windows 10 Pro? Thank you!

  • @calmago no more 20% discount applied on the Dell? I can get it app to Lenovo only.

  • Missed the Dell….can we get another deal?

  • Any more dells?

  • +1

Today my [Refurb] Dell 7040 Micro i5 6500t 8GB 256GB Win 10 for $237.30 was delivered, six days after I placed an order. The computer came wrapped in bubble wrap. It came with a power cord, a mini WiFi dongle and a invoice.

    It is tiny!

On it's side, it is the size of a mouse pad. It seems to be the size of 2 video cassettes placed side by side..

    It is extremely quiet.

Part of the SSD is taken up already, I have 194 Gb left.

After I load MS Office on to the SSD, there will be less space left on the SSD.

I am typing this message on this tiny computer.

So far, I am pleased with my purchase.

  • +1

Echo the same sentiments of the above comment. Beautiful machine in clean state. Very quiet too. I am running zwift cycling indoor training game. Work well with output on a 42 inch 4k tv. Solid buy. Thanks
