and it's from dwi so comparing grey stock to harvey norman rrp is not completely fair

and the deal value is very misleading ($1,593.90 save $744)

and eglobal (same company) selling for $778 delivered with 55-200 instead of 55-300, dwi selling for $769 delivered direct from site (with 55-200)

    it's just their normal price

    DWI? ughh… no more.

  • how can it be their normal price if its a different lens , its not the same deal.

  • +1

the deal is on BTW 69 sold.

yeah, but it wasn't when it was posted. group buy deals are supposed to be active before posting according to ozbargain rules

Yep, you were technically correct…but you know, spilt milk and all that! ;)

  • your $778 camera+lens kit was not the same deal either…….and its still not.

I was going to buy this, then I saw it was DWI. Fool me once and all that.

    • I'm with you on this Stumo. I'm still waiting for my Tamron lens refund. Shame on you DWI.

      • what's wrong with DWI? may I ask what happen to your Tamron lens? I was going to buy Tamron 18-270 from DWI but waiting for them to put on special. Seems like something dodgy about DWI that I dont know.

        • Rather than me repeating what has been said, search for 'DWI Tamron' in OzBargains search box. Or click this link. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69379

I'm no fan of the way DWI treated phone customers, they deserve everything they get for that; but I think that negging this deal for their politely declining to honour an acknowledged pricing error in another is a little unfair. The DWI camera division is held in surprisingly high regard by the WP crowd, so if they can keep that bunch of chronic whingers happy…well, I'm not sure what to make of it.

FWIW, if you paid by paypal then you might wanna lay the blame there for slow refunds too; I've had a few immediate reversals held up by Paypal for up to a week from various retailers recently! Just sayin'…

  • For video, D5100 vs Canon 60D?

    • very very generally - the advice tends to be Canon for Video, Nikon for stills. Of course, you'd want to consider all sorts of other features such as ergonomics, access you have to family's and friend's lenses that might be mostly made up of one system etc and many, many other things.

Still, if your main interest is in video.. general advice would seem to indicate Canon system would suit you more - but in reality - both systems do a good job at both.

Mr StewBalls, You are allowed to voice your opinions just as loudly as I am. I agree with you, the emails I received from DWI were polite, but talk is cheap. Why take my (and other peoples) money, which was given in good faith, on the reviews of others who have dealt with them, if they can't be bothered taking things seriously. If I or any other Australian company made the same mistake, myself or that company would have to cop it on the chin. Yes, I just received my refund, which according to Paypal could take 30 days to appear on my CC. Why would I blame Paypal, they didn't make the mistake. For me, $200 odd dollars is no big deal. For some other people in this world, having $849 tied up for a month might be too much to risk if DWI decides not to honour this deal. That's why I negged this deal. If you cant be trusted with small things, how can you be trusted with big things?

No Phil, sorry to say that is wrong. Here's why you wouldn't…and this has been hashed out on before OzB & WP ad nauseum, businesses are entitled revoke transactions due to pricing errors, check the ACCC for yourself: http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/869875

If mistakes in catalogues or advertisements have occurred, they can be fixed by publishing a retraction in a publication with a similar circulation to the original advertisement.

Now, I think in this case you're upset over nothing…but that's just IMHO. Fair enough, you think you've got a genuine grievance because you jumped on a TGTBT bargain that didn't pan out; sorry, that dog won't hunt monsignor. Let's put it in perspective, shall we. The deal was TGTBT, the OP even recognised that with this comment:

Spotted on Whirlpool. This lens is excellent value at its regular price and an absolute steal for under $250. Regular price and cheapest elsewhere is $100 more.

Suck it up Phil, sometimes you win, sometimes you just get your money back…welcome to the wild & wacky world of OzB! We've all been through it, the difference is that regulars like Stumo who complain about DWI have actually been treated poorly, read up on it!

So, DWI refund the money straight away, but Paypal might wanna keep it for a month, so that's DWI's fault…gimme a break mate! FWIW, those who can't afford to wait a few days for a refund on a spec purchase shouldn't really be spending $849 on a camera, now should they! ;)

      • I'm not upset, but more importantly, what your saying doesn't make sense. There has been no retraction published. I had already paid and the transaction was completed. I think you have a little too much spare time. Good for you. Also, its not good to blame people/companies for things that are not their fault. Dogs do hunt, TGTBT??? Was it free?

        • -1

You got a polite email dude, that should be enough retraction. Get over it, move on with your life…buy an Apple or something!

Spare time, yeah right…I just multitask well! :p

        • -3

Stew, save everyone the lectures and brainwashing.

        • -1

Yeah, no probs…I'll spare everyone some commonsense arguments that I'm yet to see cogently refuted, it's wasted on most OzB'ers nowadays; everyone just seems to think they're entitled! ;)

      • How can paypal keep the refun money for 30 days? kidding

  • First time will be the last

Even they do not honour the price they can refun asap, I called them=no answer, email them=no reply.
That means there is no customer service.

  • I bought the same deal from Jb hifi for $1019 just 2 weeks, ago, and its australian stock which comes with 2 years warranty.
