  • Seem very small, need a long time to cook for family of 4

    • It shouldn't exist unless it meets the bespoke needs of a family of 4

  • -3

Are they grilling a single spring onion in the pic

    • +4

Those are the tongs. In the link there are a few photos of small strips of meat and seafood being cooked. But either way, it illustrates that the grill is small.

it's missing below part, it may be why cheaper.

For the size, it's ok for Hibachi for family of 4, for thin sliced meat like wagyu, but not good for thick steak etc.

    • It's missing below part

I don't see that requirement mentioned in the manual anywhere…

      • There is a diff grill top to the standard japanese one (it has a wavey grill top) whereas the one here is a standard traditional looking one.

    • Oooh good catch

    • Thin slice any steak will work this size with four people (e.g. rump). No need for special wagyu. It might be nicer to have the ceramic base plates but this uses metal bars instead.

These things are fine if it's a small meal for maybe 2 or 3 people that you intend to cook at the table, but they're way too small for anything more.

    • +3

      that's the point of Hitachi
have it on the table, cook small meats, chat and drink

      • I prefer Toshiba.

      • +2

I think you mean yakiniku, not hibachi. The hibachi is the grill, not the cooking method.

Habachi are used for more than that, though, with the mainstay being dishes like yakitori (basically any "yaki", meaning grilled dish).

  • takes forever to get the charcoal ready… any tips?

my friend uses this and it wa spretty good

I have spare gas cans so I use a mini flamer to start the coals

      both work well

      • That thing is a life saver

      • I use a charcoal chimney with a fire lighter or two…
Its the only way to start Charcoal.

        • +1

Use the chimney on top of a camping butane cooker, way better.

    • +2

not sure how you do it…

      • i put a small block of fire lighter on the bottom of the grill,
      • then put the charcoal grate over it.
      • place charcoal on top of grate
      • light the fire starter from the vent hole.
      • in about 20 minutes the charcoal is ready to cook on.
      • spread out charcoal and place additional new coal on top depending on how long i need to cook for
      • place grille mesh over the top and start cooking.
      • the type of charcoal matters too…Briquettes are much easier to light as opposed to hardwood lump charcoal in my experience.

it's always a pain to start a fire w/o a chimney, but now with those electric bellow 'blowers' it has changed the game

  • These popup as sales every MasterChef season…..

  • just wondering how you clean up this thing after each cooking?

  • +1

If it's anything like the one on Amazon, better read the reviews first before buying. Main issue seems to be durability, reviews say it starts crumbling or cracking fairly soon.

    • Someone also started getting burn marks on the table.

    • +1 had this happen to mine after it inevitably got a little wet. Will buy another but better quality next time.

  • +1

Great bbq to start cooking w charcoal and after a week, realize you want something better.

  • Thanks OP! You saved my post hehe

  • +2

I have had this before and can confirm it will eventually crack and crumble, I would not recommend getting this.

  • Good idea but do you know how hard to clean up this after? 😱😱

  • Was looking at these a while back. Go and get a Weber GA and thank me later. Perfect unit which is well made and comes with a hood for roasting/smoking. Yes double the $ but worth it.

  • +1

Was looking at purchasing one, and was curious why it was advertised as ceramic yet in the specs on the site it says it’s made from clay.
And was looking at at the reviews that states it cracks.

So looking at Amazon review similar products, on their notes says it’s “ceramic clay” so that makes sense.
And they have a disclaimer regarding cleaning.

“The Hibachi Grill l is made from ceramic clay. Do not clean shell before or after use. Shell may crack.”

I hope this info may help someone

    • -2

So yeah it's made from clay and falls apart if you clean it with water. No thanks think I'll pass.

    • +1

this is the same concept as unglazed clay pots. people not familiar with it should stay away.
