  • 10W but only 400 lumens? As a comparison, the Lazer 10W smartglobes are 1000 lumens

400W are normally found in downlights and around 5W

    • +1

pretty sure that's an error. Shows it's 800 lumens in the description

      • +2

You're right it does show as 800 lumens in the description, weird how they say in bold 400 lumens and again in the dot points 400 lumens again.

Kogan is all over the place I swear

    • The description looks like it was meant for the GU10 option, sorry, I'll update the description with whats in the specs.

    • E27 should be 806 lumens, description taken from specifications instead.

  • Thanks OP. I grabbed a $8 temp and humidity sensor with freeship as well.

    • Hope you have or bought a Kogan Gateway as well because it won't work without it afaik

      • Thanks, I saw that and I'm taking a punt. I have a Tuya gateway that works with zigbee, bluetooth and wifi and hope it will do the job. We shall see

        • Hopefully it does work with others because would be annoying to have another gateway (and app) just for Kogan products

        • Nice, which tuya gateway if you don’t mind me asking?

          • +1

@Edamamme: It was from an AliExpress deal posted by @clear with Moe's.

          • +1

@Edamamme: Temp/humidity sensor arrived today and was very simple to link through the Smart Life app (which looks exactly like the tuya app except different colours). Still waiting on the bulbs.

            • @TooSerious2: Hey thanks for updating! That’s great to hear it’s super smooth sailing & no setup issues! Gonna have to give it a go now! The bulbs should be fine too if the sensor has no trouble!

      • Is a Kogan Gateway also required for these bulbs to work?

        • +1

          No you don't need.

    • Can you share the link please for which sensor you bought?

      • +1

Here is the sensor link. There is also a door-opening sensor at the same price. I hope the bluetooth mesh will work without Kogan. I don't want to deal with Kogan for an entire system.

        • Probably work with Home Assistant and Bluetooth dongle or integrated laptop Bluetooth. Problem with Bluetooth is lack of range and presumably won't mesh without a hub. Cheap enough though.

          • @10101010101: I haven't had any luck with motion sensor or door / window one so far. Can see the devices in linux on laptop but that's all, can't connect (I don't remember the terminal cmd I used).
have only tried one motion sensor in tuya app, it is detected ok, but then shows as always offline.

anyone know any next steps, i'd be glad to get them working

            • @AdModnar: Are you using Home Assistant and the passive BLE integration?

              • @10101010101: I wasn't. Trying that now.
So far it seems that the motion sensor is detected as an Apple iBeacon, and tries to report temperature and humidity (but those are disabled)
I might be able to get it better but so far, perhaps the Maxwell Smart quote : "Missed it by THAT much" is appropriate

                • @AdModnar: Tuya motion sensors are weird. I have a wifi one and the workaround integration was to ping the IP address of the sensor as it only is online with an IP address when it detects motion. Otherwise it's offline. The Bluetooth sensor might be similar?

  • Anyone knows if these bulbs can be controlled using other Tuya based apps?

    • -4

Unlikely. Kogan uses its own Smarter Home app and no way to find it's Tuya id and password for devices. A shame as would have been nice to add to HomeAssistant. Will give these a miss for that reason alone. Decent price and a pity the most Kogan smarter home devices were not HA compatible.

      • +1

Seems like smarter home is Tuya based. See 3.2 here..

        • I never said they are not Tuya based as they are BUT this doesn't mean it is open source i.e. Kogan doesn't make its Tuya ID and passwords available for us to see hence you must use their app. Hope that wasn't you that negged me :-)

          • @Borg: I have Kogan PowerPoints and I use the Blitzwolf app. Like Arlec and Mirabella, I got a feeling they're Tuya

            • @adrianhughes1998: I have the newer Kogan power points and cannot be used with HASS. The old ones could be flashed with Tasmoto. I think it depends on the current Tuya used by Kogan. Their newer devices seem to be more locked down (is my impression at least). I will happily stand corrected.

              • @Borg: Yeah I'm talking about not flashing, just using the default app and not using HASS. Not saying you're wrong just under the impression out of the box they worked with Tuya protocol so can use whatever app

              • @Borg: They can all be flashed with Tasmota.

                • @Tacooo: Care to share how you flash these Kogan bulbs with Tasmoto please.

                  • +1

@Borg: USB to TTL adapter directly onto the pins of the ESP then Tasmotizer software.

                    • @Tacooo: So these have a TYW2ES chip inside?
I tried flash the Kogan Smart Energy Plugs with Tasmoto, it connected but failed to update the TYW2ES chip. You kindly helped step me through the process last Oct (thanks for that). I also later tried a second plug as a matter of interest, it also failed. Not sure I would want to dissemble a bulb, solder wires etc.

Other: julz (below) notes as being by default supported on Local Tuya. I might grab some of these as a hobby/test project in case different to the ones I already have. Thanks.

                      • @Borg: I don't remember the exact model but it was definitely supported. Half my house is running on these bulbs.

                        • @Tacooo: I ordered some to play with hobbywise. I don't need anymore bulbs.ha! Thanks for the info.

          • +1

@Borg: No, didn't neg. Just never heard of Tuya based lights not to be able to be added to other Tuya based apps. I thought they were all just The same lights/apps rebranded.

I have various other Tuya based lights added to Tuya app so I can use them in home assistant through local Tuya. Basically all newer lights and other devices (not just Kogan) can't be flashed OTA to tasmota anymore, so this is the best alternative…

            • +1

              @NigelTufnel: My mistake and apologies
In my mindset when initially replying I was more thinking about "Flashing and getting full control over Kogan's devices" rather than just other Tuya apps. Regardless of that, Tacooo above noted that these indeed could be flashed so I was wrong about that as well, oh dear! Will play with that later.

I don't regret my comment/mistake as Tacoo (above) and julz (below) comments have enlightened/reminded me of some things.
I grabbed a old ALDI smart plug sitting unused and added it to "Tuya's Smart Life" app. This device then linked/showed up in my Tuya Dev account. From there I could grab the Private Key and then add to LocalTuya on HASS. Excellent. Apologies again and thanks "all" for the extra reminders & education :-)

    • +3

Yes. Using these with the native Tuya app and also Home Assistant via Tuya IOT cloud.

      • I have these and cannot add to HASS. Mind sharing the instructions please as my comments above will be deemed incorrect if what you say is true…..which I hope it is.

        • Use localtuya and not the Tuya integration. Almost certain these are Tuya. I have Kogan bulbs and they are Tuya based and work fine with Home Assistant

          • @10101010101: I have local Tuya and mine are not detected. Do you have these bulbs and checking in case I am missing something obvious?

            • +1

@Borg: Yeah bought the Edison screw ones in January and currently using. Set them up via smart life app first and grab the keys via the developer site. Set static IP via your router

          • @10101010101: does localtuya require flashing? I heard newer tuya can't be flashed and stuff up everything. So I'm stuck with the default app

  • +1

    Interesting.

    GU10 - 2 pack $8.99, 4 pack $18.99

    • +1

2 pack is cheaper. It is OK price for normal use for the rangehood. 3 pack @ IKEA is $15.

  • +1

Does this work with Apple home

  • +2

Bought a 4pack of e14s last time these were on special. Rubbish. Bulbs go offline randomly and a couple were very difficult to pair. Avoid.

  • I was waiting for the freeship code for the B22's of these. Even with the crappy Kogan First, I'm apparently remote enough that I didn't qualify for the 'Free Shipping with First' that was plastered all over the website.

  • What's the light quality like (CRI)? Most smart globes are fairly crap.

    • The cool to warm spectrum is decent. The RGB in the RGB versions is pretty poor, also very weak compared to the warm and cool brightness. I can grab a photo if you want, though I'm not sure if it will show CRI quality.

  • Just tested adding the Kogan RGB (pretty much the same exact lights as the ones in this deal, just with added weak RGB) light bulbs top the Tuya app. I chose "Light Source (Wi-Fi)" when adding them. Works great.

Home Assistant has Tuya integrations so it works out well.

    https://imgur.com/a/tLzV7oh

    • Oh how's the light look for RGB ver.? U say is poor so kinda curious how poor is that… Was going to grab this rgb on special until i saw ur comment

      • +1

They both go on special a lot.

The cool and warm parts of the RGB lights are fine. They act exactly the same same as the ones in this deal, fairly bright, decent quality.

When you switch to the RGB mode the brightness is about half of the cool and warm mode though, so it's not much use unless it's just for a small highlight corner of a room or you have multiple lights in one room.

Here's a vid going through the cool-warm slider then to the RGB colour-wheel and moving around it: https://i.imgur.com/fa3PYFz.mp4

Camera settings were locked so you can see how much less bright the RGB parts are. My wall isn't white so the colours aren't accurate.

        • Thank u very much!

  • got a couple. thank you!

  • Can these be used without the app

    • +2

No, it blinks. Need the app to stop the blinking.

      • +1

It only needs to be setup once. After it, it can be used as a normal one, no blink, without APP/WIFI.

  • These don't play nice with Google home right?

  • Why is B22 more expensive. Boo

  • Seems that several Bunnings are selling RGB smart bulbs for $1 or $2 as clearance at the moment. I grabbed a load. Also, if it dies, I don't have to deal with Kogan! 🤣

    • Possible any around Melbourne North, East or West?

  • Tried the Kogan smart home app, but can't add them :-(
The lights are flashing quickly and app is connected to 2.4Hz

    • Your router is probably the problem. Enable 2.4ghz. I set up two over the weekend. Worked fine

    • Not sure about these, but usually there's 2 pairing modes. Fast blinking is when you connect directly to the bulbs wifi to pair (AP mode). Slow blinking is for normal pairing over wifi, letting the app find out automatically. I think you want slow blinking.

Could be the other way round though…

      • It's fast blinking you need for usual App & WiFi. Just make sure your router is allowing traffic out when pairing as it needs to connect to cloud.

    • Try disable mobile data as well
