SCA 240V Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner $64.99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ $99 Order) @ Supercheap Auto

1290

Hi all,

Seems like a pretty good price for a spot cleaner.

Not sure how it compares with the Bissell ones but for a less than half the price, why not?

If anyone has used this, please share your experience.

Its a higher wattage than all the portable Bissell ones (except the 'pro') so, its either less efficient (unlikely on a simple electric motor) or its more powerful.
    Fingers crossed!

    • +3

How bout the ad for it 🤣🤣

      • +4

Wonder how many times they shot the ad. The dog seems to enjoy it.

        • +8

I liked how the camera pans away as the device attempts to do its job.

          • @muncan: totally! As soon as i saw that i was like naahhh. She's just moving the crap around.

            • @TommyGun: Yeah, house carpet is such a bad example; its a deep pile. They work wonders on car carpet, and seating, since its just thin fabric, and you're basically giving it a rinse.

  • Given the number of times I’ve had to replace one of the bissells because of a damaged hose is worth a shot

Hey LOVE HONEY, I ordered this over two weeks ago and still have not received it. What's the issue?

  • +13

You can see the stain the lady was 'cleaning up' in the end of the video on the bottom right. The part she is sitting reading and the dog is eating the food off the floor

    • Hahaha.. glad I wasnt the only one who noticed that

  • +1

Is this good for back hair? asking for a for friend.

    • +2

That dog seemed pretty shiny, right?

    • upper back or lower? or lowest?

    Impulse purchased.

  • oh my, been waiting for a long time for a cheap spot cleaner, pulling the trigger even though I don't need one

    • +4

Why were you waiting a long time for something you don't need?

      • +21

would look good in my garage

Just got written out of a will. 0/10. Do not recommend.

        • I agree… buy her a broom instead…

That sucks. Suddenly inheriting a house and someone’s super can be life changing. Parents suddenly dying can be too.

      • Ha ha ha! Evil!!

Can this work as a “very small” wet vac as well, eg just suck up a small wet spill off tiles / cement?

    • +1

Can't speak for this exact model, but I use my Bissell for this purpose occasionally.

The advert for the product says the sale ends 27/4.

      Nope. "End Date 08/05/22"

Full time carpet cleaner here…im telling you now that the spag bog would not come out that white carpet. Not with that machine.

These machines are for small very small spillages only and maybe going over a small couch now and then.

Stains marks are best treated asap and then u have chance of getting out. The KEY is extraction, need powerful suction. Idea is to put what cleaners u can over the mark spill and suck it out with lots of water…ie your flushing the stain/mark out, much how a washing machine washes clothes, But with out suction your leaving all what you put in the carpet there.

Better off wet/dry vac. Yet for this price it might save you now and then…but really depends on what you spill. Red wine, cordial, forget it. Get a rug to cover :)

    • What do you recommend for professional results?

      • +55

        His services

      • -5

Kamasutra massage with a happy ending

    • They recommend you put a small amount of cleaning solution in the water when you clean. If you vac this out as best you can, is that enough? Or do you need to replace water with fresh and then soak and vac again?

      • I would always keep flushing with clean water afterwards. So yes i would soak after with a little clean water and vac again.

    • +1

Spag bol in neck of the woods (although no easier to remove)

    • What do you think of the generic house carpet cleaning flyer ads?

      • +11

Depends, you pay for what get. Most cheap prices are a top clean ie spray on a chemical and massage it into the carpet (encap we call it). We use it in apartments where a steam clean is not viable.

"Encapsulation carpet cleaning is an interim, low-moisture carpet cleaning method that dries quickly. While encapsulation does not eliminate deep cleaning methods like hot water extraction, it can prolong the cycle for which deep cleaning of carpet is required"

I recommend a steam clean with a truck mounted machine (not a portable machine in in van), better hot water, better suction.

In SA I would say 3-4 standard rooms around $200+ GST. For a truck mounted steam clean. Maybe more in other states.

But for that your getting the best machine anyone can use to clean your carpet.

        • +1

          Thanks for your advice!!
Would a van-mounted machine (not portable) be the same good stuff?

        • Thanks for that.

I recently had pretty good luck using a hire one from Bunnings (it was an emergency), so it's interesting that a steam clean is that much better.

    • @BigBucko , can you let me know your company name so can look at getting a quote for carpet cleaning in adelaide. Thanks

  • Hmm this or the Bissell…

  • I have a bissell proheat upright and they can be temperamental
I've had to change the pump belts a couple of times, at least they're cheap though.

Overall they get the job done and can be had on marketplace for $60

Although for $64 you can't really go wrong with this one

    • The Bissell proheat sure is a crazy unit. There's so many things that could go wrong with it. Sometimes it wont suck sometime the water will not go back to the tank and it would spew everywhere. End up using wet/dry vacuum much stronger suckion.

  • +12

For small spill, very mild warm soapy water. Massage in (not scrub) then suck out, rinse with clean water, suck out again. Rinse and repeat. The goal is dilute the spill but at same time suck it out.

The biggest problem i see when people try clean stains/spills is that they put to much cleaning solution down and can't suck/extract it out.

Carpet stain removers from supermarkets are terrible, say spray on and rub. WHAT? yes bleaches or removes stain but with out extracting anything surely common sense is your leaving the chemical and original spill in carpet.

So often i clean a carpet and see white spots everywhere, I ask them have they used a spot remover…" Oh just a little" lol

  • would my wet dry vac and stain remover do the same job?

    • +21

Be honest im not keen on stain removers, mild washing up liquid would do just as good a job. Saying that though it all about extraction! If your wet dry has good extraction it should so as a good a job. So yes!

In my eyes the Bissel and the this SCAare really just a wet and dry vac. Only thing is it flushes the water out at the same time as sucking/extracting. One thing I don't recommend is leaving what ever cleaning agent down to long with out extracting it. It will bleach the fibers.

I use a truck mount machine (50K) and i know i can put whatever cleaning agents down as long as i suck up asap.

I’m liking how this is turning into your AMA post.

        • +18

Not much I know (maybe 1+1) I do know carpet cleaning…so happy to help if can :)

          • +5

@BigBucko: It's funny how you think you know nothing interesting and then it turns out the very specific knowledge you do have is very well received. There was a vacuum cleaner repair tech who did some AMA's on reddit years ago and they were insanely popular.

Most people don't have exposure to lots of different brands of white goods, so they can't accurately judge. Online opinions tend to only represent bad experiences. People in stores, who do see lots of units, only want to sell you things. So your niche experience in carpet cleaning is something that most people don't have and don't have a trustworthy source to get normally.

    • I would suppose your wetdry vac do a better job, according to the above comments.

  • Does it work as a plain vacuum cleaner?

  • +2

I need to suck some dogshit out of my carpet, but I’d rather use a device to do it since I don’t like the taste of wool. Would this machine be suitable?

  • +4

I use hot water from kettle with bit of dishwashing water then wet vac it out. Works great for spot stains. I had a bissell before - not worth it. Just get a decent wet dry vac for $100

    • Isn't this one a wet dry vac?

        • which 1 would you pick?

the one you link or the other 20L ozito?
          https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-1250w-20l-wet-dry-vacuum_p…

          • @Rakddon: I was thinking the same only seen the lower priced one what’s the difference?

        • I was thinking of this cleaner from sca but I might be better with this you posted ozito wet and dry, as it’s a vacuum and washes as well. I used to use our old vacuum which we had for 9 years best vacuum ever had but the clip that held the filer head part broke and just became a nightmare to use. But I could be done with getting something just for the car.
This Bunnings one might be best option as does both jobs right?

Car gets messy at times with the kids and wife lol so cleaning the seats and carpets would be good. Or would I best buying a cheap vacuum from say Kmart just for the car. In saying that Kmart vacuum would only do that and not wash.

We have an old brand new Dyson tucked away never used and starting using it when we got rid of broken vacuum so just want to keep that as house only.
This Bunnings one more for car.
I take you have the Bunnings one?

  • Watching post for reviews! Hopefully someone can compare it to a bissell spot cleaner

    • I am not holding my breath - people who own Bissell are not going to buy this one.

I picked it up today and went to work cleaning my upholstered executive high back home office chair. Now mind you, my office chair is now close to 20 years old and apart from the build up of sweat and grime it is still as good as it was the day I got it. From memory 20 years ago it was around the $1K mark and it has commercial grade upholstery. I just spent around 45 minutes cleaning it quite vigorously using the inbuilt water spray/ palmolive foaming soap from the bathroom/ the vacuum brush attachment and the result is all ready very very good. I put the chair in the sun for a final dry out and getting ready for the 3 day weekend of gaming. Probably in another few days I will give it another go and see if any more dirty water gets removed… during the first vacuum the water was coming out filthy! I highly recommend it for smaller jobs. 5 stars from me.

  • Could I use it to steam clean my car seats??

    • At a guess do an ok job but I wouldn't expect miracles.

    • +2

      It's not a steam cleaner.

  • +2

Upvote for the compact design and good price, but the alternative(wet/dry vac) won't cost much more and will probably be more useful and powerful (400w vs 1200w).

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-1250w-20l-wet-and-dry-vacu…

    • Add this for extra dirt removal

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-ultimate-cleaning-brush-se…

    • +3

Would advise getting an upholstery attachment for it, too. It helps if you can see how much liquid you're bringing out whilst doing it, otherwise you're just guessing.

And those drill brushes may be too stiff for upholstery. The white ones are usually good enough

      • can you give an example of the upholstery attachment plz? thx

        • Exactly this… the attachments with this spot cleaner are great! They are narrow and a lot of suction produced for a small area and as such works really well. Refer my review above.

    • Is the Vax product at Big W the same just rebranded and more expensive?

    • I will say the wet vac option is a good way to go. ie you can use the wet vac for general use also.

Be honest wouldn't go the drill ozito brushes, bit harsh. More a light brush like this.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Kiwi-100-Horsehair-Shine-Brush/dp/…

As for a nozzle attachment, something like this.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/powerfit-35mm-claw-nozzle_p00358…

So finally i would say…maybe fill a spray bottle with mild soapy water, give the soiled mark a good soak and then lightly massage with the brush above. With the attachment above suck all out, repeat a few times, then spray area with clean water and suck out a few times, this way getting what dirt left and what residue is left.

      :)

Ordered. Will be interesting to see how this goes for the price.

  • I was expecting two bottles of solution, one carpet cleaner and another bottle with odour and pet stain remover.
I thought the listing mentioned these but where they not included? I can no longer see the listing.

    • No bottles are included.
But they advertise it on the same page.

  • Strange they have taken the product off their website now even though it was on the front page of their catalogue this week. Wonder if theyre having issues with it. Seems very cheap compared to the Bissell models. Was going to buy one as a 'handy to have' item at that price

    • the issue being they are selling these out very quickly at the reduced price… and they want to bring the price back up. These are really good spot/ small job cleaners!

  • +1

Still available in store if you want to grab one.

  • +1

    Back in stock!

  • Managed to snag one instore.. Will see how it goes.

  • I bought it today. Whilst it does a decent enough job, it seems to leak from the spray nozzle, while the machine is on. Is this normal? What's other people's experiences?

    • I had a small leak from the join on the head without brush, I found I hadn't quite pushed it together properly, but yeah the sprayer does have a small leak… This thing is very good for the money. My 2 year old swiped a near full mug of coffee off the coffee table this morning and this machine sorted it in 30 mins. Worth every cent..
