Sigh, I have so freaking many of these but can never pass up a bargain.

  • EMTEC

    Is this brand any good?

    • $12 ea with a 5 yr warranty from DSE,

      Does it really matter?

They all come out of the same plants these days,

      • +1

Yeah it does. If it's going to take me 2 hours for every transfer, I might as well get a portable hdd.
It's not just the price, quality matters.

  • 16384Mb @ 8mb Sec = 2048 Seconds = 34 minutes to fill the drive.

Not all that fast, but there are certainly slower ones!!

    • it is the max speed, we can't always get the max speed all the time. it depends on the system overall..

    • Is thats if it works at its maximum quoted speed ?

Eh, this makes 1x USB $12. $12 for this isn't really a deal IMHO. They look quite cheap, plasticy and see-through. I would much prefer a Patriot 16GB/ 32GB USB from MSY when their on special. Only a few $$ more and much faster and much more reliable

Also, just personal opinion, but i'd prefer a reliable sandisk over a faster, but cheap unknown brand flash drive.

EDIT: Much better deals to be seen - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65335 + http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68662

    NO deal

    • +7

dick's might come preloaded with some moviez or nude photos of someone's girlfriend :)

msy's offerings certainly a much better deal

@xDefine. The much better deal you gave the link to, was a one day only special posted 2 months ago : )

How do you know that the Patriot drives are more reliable, or are you just guessing.

  • +3

I don't think Dick and quicky should be in the same sentence in relation to USB drive.

    • -7

      Dicks one hour quicky?! LMFAO.

      Thats a joke right???

It's wrong whether Dick is a Person or a penis.

      • +3

That's your reason to neg? because you don't like the name of the deal?

    • They're making full use of the Dick Smith name.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the actual item link if anyone wants to check it out now.

I love their advertising. While walking to work this morning, saw this billboard - "Clever Dick plugs in, installs and reboots". Bought a smile to my face :)

    • Rofl.

    • -2

yeah, clever dick jokes are so modern and funny, and never remind me of crassy british TV shows from a few decades ago that really aren't funny at all.

Just as well its now 'disappearing dick'!

      • Bring back "Dick Heads" AKA matches that he named after his dicks food barand and based on the red head matches name.

How do you know that the Patriot drives are more reliable, or are you just guessing

Pretty much just an educated guess, but either way they probably are more reliable then some unkownn (emtec) brand that i've never heard off.

The Patriots also have a much better looking casing, and again, I remember seeing Strontium 16gb flash drives for $15 over 6months ago with similar write/read speeds. Many stories of these drives dyeing, because they most likey use a much less reliable flash chip. I wouldn't be surprised if this drive uses a similar flash chip inside.

Also, you could get Sandisk 16GB flash drives for $11 + $1 shipping not long ago. Much more reliable brand, much better looking, definitely worse write speeds however i much prefer these flash drives in general.

I got a Sandisk 16gb micro sdhc not long ago for $10. Much more reliable, don't have to buy two of them, very similar write/ read speeds (7.5MB/s write, 17MB/s read), and, you can use them in any $1 micro sdhc - usb adapter. (probably look much better than thes flash drives too)

Basically what i'm trying to say is that 2 flash drives for $24 is not a deal, espec when they look so average and is such an unknown brand.

I always find that high capacity no brand USB's have a much higher failure rate.

    • +1

what sort of education did you make your guess on? Cert4 IT?
Just because you dont know emtec doesnt make it a shit brand.
FYI EMTEC is an international company base in europe. You probably havent heard of them because they are not active in Australia

      • what sort of education did you make your guess on? Cert4 IT?

Haha, ok you got me there ;)

My point being that I wouldn't play $12 (x2) for 2 cheap looking flash drives. I've seen decent 16GB sandisk's for the same price, without needing to buy 2.

Also the 32GB usb deal for $20. Same amount of GB except $4 cheaper and one flash drive.

Now this is actually a decent deal.

And please people, please provide reasoning when negging.

    • -3

Negging this deal because emtec is an unknown brand and then you go and recommend a deal where the usb is made by a Chinese company that emerge in 2010. Fair enough, the usb is not bad as i also have one but it is in no way more reliable than an emtec. Plus you are buying from megabuy which usually take at least 2 weeks to 2 months for delivery. Dicksmith usually deliver the next business day or the worst is 3 business days so far from my experience.
Your negging is still invalid imo

If you want a proper reason to neg this deal just point out the $4.95 shipping fee (which make this $28.95) because there is no click and collect for this deal.

    5 year warranty

Wont be much good, Dick Smith wont be around that long!

  • EMTEC isn't unknown , its just that you decided not to google.

Edit i negged you for being clueless
This brand is probs older than you are kid

    Haha, atleast you're honest.

No, emtec isn't older than am I.

They just obviously aren't very well know these days for making flash memeory.

I don't think that negging me for being clueless is right, since they aren't well know for making flash memory compared to sandisk, toshiba etc.

It seems I have offended a few people for calling emtec it is an unknown brand. I apologize for that, and was wrond but i still dont' think they are well known in the flash memory department (in the last 5 years anyway, lOL)

    • +1

I didnt negg you just the other guy.

Also i want to add sandisk may be a well known brand but i find the speed of their usb drives to be terrible

      • -1

you neg me why? i didnt said EMTEC is an unknown brand. I know all too well they make novelty usb since 2006. You are the one who is clueless

        • +1

          y so mad
