  • Pretty sure I did $500 for a $49 plan few years back…

I’m already paying about $35 a month so it’s not too bad factoring I’m the voucher value just being hopeful there was a $49 deal with same voucher

    • +13

That deal hasn’t been a thing for a long time. Every mentions it but it isn’t coming back. $59/m + $500 is the best case now but rare. $69/m + $500 is the next best.

      • Yeah, my wife and I both got the $49pm+$500 voucher a couple of years(?) back. Helped pay for a new fridge.
I keep hoping to see a similar deal, but know it's not happening any time soon…

        • Yeah its not coming back mate, inflation sux

      • I got the 69 500 deal, and immediately spent $80 of the gift card

    • +2

I got to pay 59 bucks per mth for 2 years for 300GB + calls with 1000 bucks GC in early April 2022. Not sure its good enough or not but after all calc i pay less than 20 from my pocket. So I cancelled my broadband now. 5G hotspot is working very fine for YouTubing

      • Yeah, I thought that was a great deal, but IIRC there were quite a few neggers, most were complaining about the 24 months. But a lot of people, like you, could ditch their broadband and use their phone as a hotspot. If I was living alone, I would've signed up.

  • +3

    Good deal.

Technically is $360 as JB gift card can be scored with 10% off .

    • +2

Where do you score that please?

      • Classifieds.

      • Guess its from 10% off GC from coles

  • It's an okay deal, I guess.

On a different note, the better plan I signed up for last year ($59/month, $500 bonus GC) ended recently - any recommendations for a good prepaid plan to tide me over until a better deal arises?

    • +4

Aldi was my go to seemed pretty much the same as Telstra accept downloads seemed to be capped at 100mbps and lost the visual voice mail and no VOLTE

      • Cheers - I'll have a look into it :)

      • I've noticed my ALDI quality is dropping. I can have full bars and no service as they are at the bottom of the pole when network is busy. Particularly in places like Westfield malls. I'm looking to switch

        • Ah good point im regional just FYI so towers are rarely busy XD

    • Check Vodafone. Currently on a $25pm prepaid. It's the $30 service with a $5 credit if auto recharging. Includes 5g. Been waiting to get back to Telstra 😄.

      • -3

Vodafone literally is going to be Telstra… reception will be same. They have signed up a. Deal.

    • Is the $59 compatible with 5g?

    • Woolworths has $140 for a year long prepaid at the moment.
just realised you want short term but i'm leaving this here anyway. too many people are overpaying for their phones, long term prepaid needs to be more of a thing

    • Felix mobile $35 per month for unlimited calls, texts and data @20mbps. Make sure you check out the OZBargan Felix Mobile page for a referral code (I believe it gets both people a free month).

    • Felix has good deals - $17/m for 3 months. Unlimited capped data.

  • +31

oi jb head office if you're reading this, dont be a tight arse and just offer us $500 again already.

Also would it kill ya's to offer this via your dedicated phone sales team again? Always such a bloody drama lining up at the local stores which are perpetually understaffed with huge lines of people who always have 5 million questions about 10 different phones and want to sit there and compare till closing then not go through with it anyway.

    • +4

Have to agree on getting the online channel back. Store visits are as you put it - freaking painful.

      • +4

My most recent sign up I waited for literally hours, It was so bad that by 2pm one of the guys announced anyone after this customer, please leave and line up again tomorrow as they were already going to have to be doing O/T. I raised a complaint to the manager of my local that this should have been communicated at the time we were put in the line by the line expeditor.

The manager very graciously phoned me straight away and had someone organize for me over the phone 99.9% of the paperwork the next day, all they needed was a signature.

Get to store, had to wait 2 hours in line just to PUT A SIGNATURE ON A PIECE OF PAPER SMH.

The very 1st time I did the offer, was at the height of covid. No siganture was required then and everything was done over phone.

I dont see what the issue was.

    • Targets and bonuses on sign ups.

      For employee and store/manager

It's always good to try and tie up a tv deal and sweaten the neg with a sign up or 2 👍

Summed up my experience going into JBs every time lmao

Or its them going in the back to check if a item is in stock, spending 15mins and coming out with the wrong item

    • +1

don't forget the staff that just stand around talking to each other about netflix

  • +2

Was waiting for $500. Do you think eofy will have $500 offer? Don't want to regret when $500 deal pop up, lol.

  • +2

Waiting for $500. Should be happening near the end of June. That’s when my 12 month is up?

  • Not for new customers? Have they gotten savvy to having the new number changed to the existing one I wonder

    • +5

It's not for existing Telstra cucumbers. You'll have to port out for 30 days, then take this deal up. So some planning required.

      • +17

        Lucky I’m a Telstra eggplant.

        • +1

          Eggcellent

      • +1

Didn't downvote you, but that's my point. You could sign up as a new customer previously and transfer your old number in place of your new but it looks like they have scrapped that in this instance

        • Yeah I did that late last year when they were doing the 500 and they were refusing to do it until it went to the complaints department. When I do it this year I definitely will do the proper port out for 30 days first. Less of a hassle and headache.

          • @nobby148: Same here, it took me a pretty lengthy phone call to get it done.
I should have ported out already to be honest. My 12 months are up, so maybe I'll do that today

  • +1

Could someone please explain “ Rmb to ask through Telstra chat for a bonus $10-20 port in credit :)”?

    • Cant JBHI give you the bonus credit? if not how do we get it through Telstra chat when porting through JBHI?

      • Yeah, thats what happened for me last year. They just instantly took off $10/month when I did the deal and ported in.

    • +1

get on telstra live chat, tell them the jb rep / or your friend got a $20 credit/month and you want the same.

depending on who you get they might give you the $20 or refuse at all.
Some may give you counter offer $15/month
some may give you counter offer $10/month

if your're not happy with result, d/c and keep reconnecting.

best i got was $10/month after 10+ disconnects so just called it a day.

In my experience it means sweet F A if you are a telstra customer or not previously

      • +1

Is that before or after I get the plan from jbhifi that I call Telstra about the credit?

      • Don't they have transcripts of previous chats when you connect on chat, couldn't they just see that you'd been knocked back already?

        • In my experience no.
This also makes complaints a HUGE f around as you need to re-tell the whole story if you get d’ced or transferred. Stitch up city.

    • It was a PITA last time I did it in December. They really locked down on that.

  • Will this work for a completely new service? Or only port in?

  • +1

Can this be used in a wifi dongle? Or phones only

    • will work to use the data as long as it’s unlocked or locked to Telstra

  • How long does the $400 voucher last for?

Make it $500 and with the Iphone 14 release date coming could be a decent deal for 5G

    • JB gift cards don't have an expiry which is nice

  • +4

They had a similar offer the other day but instead of a$400 gift card they gave you a $950 credit towards the s22 ultra.

I've been waiting since December for the $500 gift card to come back. I don't think they will do it again, maybe on boxing day. If you like these deals you should look out for the handset credits rather than the gift cards. Some ozb's were able to sell the handset and make a profit on top of having their mobile service paid for 12 months. In my case I got the s22 ultra for $747 including a bunch of extras on top.

    • +1

You're sure it's 12 month plan, $950 credits towards phone promo usually is 24 month contract

      • yes sir 100%

        • No $950 is for 24months plan

          • @shegeloaf: No you are wrong because I signed up for it and shared it on ozb

  • +15

Here are your live chat scripts, adapted from previous posts. Gets you the $10 per month welcome credit, and once you have purchased a new service, transfers your existing number to it. Avoids needing to churn for 30 days to qualify for new/churning service.

    welcome credit

Hi, I just signed up for the service (NEWNUMBER). My friend told me I could get a $10 per month welcome credit on each. Are you able to help me with this please?

    moving the service

Hi, I signed up for a new number and service (NEWNUMBER) that expires in 2023 I want to keep the SIM and SERVICE. All I want to do is MOVE my number (OLDNUMBER) to this new service. You can then subsequently cancel the SIM that was originally associated with (NEWNUMBER), and then cancel the number (OLDNUMBER). So in the end.. I have ONE service, and ONE number…. that is (NEWNUMBER) with a plan that expires in 2023.

    • +2

Did the same last year for $500 gift card.
Already had active telstra number so I signed up as new number.
Online chat - told I want to keep the plan but want to use old number instead of new number.
Telstra transferred new signed up plan to old number.
So no need to wait 30days or have non-telstra number.

    • FWIW, got this from the customer service chat:

"Thank you for getting in touch about this. We have been receiving multiple inquiries with regards to the same offer a couple of days back. That being said, we have raised it to the management already to get some clarifications with JB Hi-fi as we do not have access to the said offers as of this writing. It's important that we get it fixed. I know you have spent a lot of time on this already. We'll definitely communicate with you once we have resolved this issue."

    • +1

aim high son. ask for 20

  • I usually bounce between Telstra and tpg. Not switching back to Telstra until it comes out to about 25 bucks per month or less after GC.

  • -2

Nothing compares to getting 200 gb (150 + 50gb bonus data) 12 month telstra starter sim for $230 from SimOnline. You can "recharge" it by activating the new sim and then asking live chat to change the phone number from the old account to the new SIM. worked for me twice. Data and all that does not carry over however. but at that price, who cares?

ends up being ~16.7GB a month for $19 bucks a month.

    • That doesn't sound that good for 15gb with that amount of effort

      • bugger all effort once a year. who even uses 16.7gb a month regularly? some, sure. but i'd wager more often people dont use that much data with home wifi etc.

    • Unfortunately not 5g though … last time I checked

  • Damnit, ported over last week because i was about to get charged another monthly fee for my other plan. Could have got an extra $100 on the giftcard (although paid $39 for the extra month)

  • -2

Very professional of JB, having spelling errors in their poster.

    • i mean, have you seen JB staff

  • +2

Can anyone confirm if Telstra got their act together and if they now allow international calling packs on these plans? My previous experience has been painful

  • So glad I did sign up when it was $500

  • Just something to note which may help some people (wish I knew before I signed up). Telstra allows data sharing on their plans, but JB Telstra plans do not allow data sharing. I signed up hoping to get an extra sim to use in my iPad Pro but was told by Telstra when I tried to do this that JB plans are managed on a separate billing platform to direct Telstra plans and on that JB Telstra platform, data sharing is not possible

  • I don't believe those plans have international calling or has that changed?

  • +1

If I'm already a Telstra customer. Can I port out to a prepaid optus SIM and then qualify?

    • +2

You need to stay 30 days and then port in. There are a lot of people claiming they didn't wait the 30 days, but I tried 3 times, and the 3 times they told me that I needed 30 days or more.

    • +1

See my script above for livechat - just order a new service. YMMV.

  • Anything if you are already on Telstra (no contract) ?

  • How unfair - I want to sign up but instore only is a bit tough for those juggling COVID. My first day out of iso is the 11th :(

    • Call the store…… I was offered to do it over the phone when I signed up.

  • JB have also dumped the price of iPhone 11 & 12 today in line with Telstra, Amazon and OW so you can basically get an iPhone outright for a massive discount off RRP.

I did the Optus deal with Officeworks and essentially ended up with around $500 off an iPhone 12 128GB thanks to combining the $300 Optus discount and the Officeworks sale.

(I came off Telstra less than 30 days ago, so couldn't take on this deal and had to get crafty.)

    • What Optus deal was this?

  • can somebody explain the port in bonus? I understood how to live chat to get it but how to get the 20 instead of 10 as mentioned.

    • Literally ask for $20 instead of $10, hell try $30 if you can. You've gotta get lucky with which rep you speak with

    • +1

$20 credit was the deal that applied about 2-3 years ago. Haven't heard anyone getting that for ages. Its just the $10 port in bonus, which still doesn't work everytime. Although I've got it applied the last two times I've done the plan. Others have said just speak to another employee and see if they will do it, if you can't get it the first time on chat.

      • so let me get this straight. You port the number over in store at JB, set up the deal and then ask Telstra for the credit after the fact? Or do you ask for it before hand and make it a condition for signing up the deal/porting over?

        • You can't ask for it before signing up. Can only be done after, in chat or phone. JBHifi can't do it. So Telstra has to see you have a new account before they can do it themselves. It can be hit or miss depending on some people I've seen on ozbargain. Last time I did it was about 18 months ago. No guarantees and I'm geussing it probably gets less and less chance the longer these are going.

        • You ask for it after the fact on Telstra live chat.

  • Is it if coming from Boost prepaid?

  • Damn, was hanging for the $500, might wait it out a little longer

  • A few weeks ago we went in and got the $99 plan for $79 and came with a $800 voucher.

Not for everyone I know but it was a promo that might still be going.

    • that's 24 months right?

      • No, the lady managed to do 12m

        • thats a good deal. $20 discount from JB or is this the telstra credit?

          • @Anonymous18: Telstra credit it every month, so she is debited $79

            • @tightm8: amazing deal well done. I would jump on that for sure if that was to come up. Works out to be $148 for 12 months after the gift card?
