Be aware using this machine locks you into using ONLY Lavazza A Modo Mio Pods.

Those pods are becoming rarer in supermarkets (none in Coles I've visited, some on Clearance in Woolies), but available online. Less buying options can mean higher pod prices as now rarely on sale

And you need to enjoy the limited coffee styles available. May not suit everyone.

I've used a few different Lavazza A Modo Mio Pod machines over many years. Those were much simpler models, bought almost free or even made a profit on them.

But am now tiring of the limited Lavazza A Modo Mio coffee pod range & taste.

Best to check out if you like the coffee pod range, before buying the machine.

easy to buy on Amazon, and they price match when on sale at Woolworths/Coles

      • As I commented.
Available from Lavazza (wider range like the ¡Tierra! Bio Organic & Divino pods, but usually dearer) & Amazon sites.

But now less styles available than in the past. Lavazza no longer produces my favourite pods - the reason I bought the machine.

Usual issue raised in these Deals is no comparability (locking you into only these coffee pods) & limited range.

Hence my warning to those unused to Lavazza A Modo Mio Pod machines.

      • It is true that the Woolies and Coles used to stock many various taste but now only 4 or less. The Lavazza website is where you can buy full range and taste but you are right that Amazon offers more taste than Woolies and Coles. Having that said Amazon currently has 16pods pack for $7.20 which is not bad.

        • Visited a few Coles this week - no Lavazza A Modo Mio Pods. Asked - no longer stocked (at least at those stores). Coles used to offer good sales prices.

Found tonight, Amazon @$7.20 has some 12 pod boxes described as 16 pod!

@INFIDEL: Just buy from Amazon then. I don’t like shopping at Coles and Woolies anyway when the time I spend on queues is way too long. Coles is even worse now by replacing more staff checkouts to self checkouts to cut wages.

            • @wtfnodeal: I'm stopping using pods after so many years with Lavazza A Modo Mio machines.

Tired of limited pod range & taste. Favourite coffees are no longer produced.

Was in Coles, so just looked for some favourite pods (Qualità Oro) to finish up with.
Not an Amazon fan. Haven't used it in years.

          • @INFIDEL: Diff taste has different sizes. It is all written there not too hard to tell.

            • @wtfnodeal: I know - I've been buying them for many years!

              But Amazon incorrectly described
Amazon Qualità Oro 12 pack as:
              "Description
Lavazza Qualità Oro: Pack of 16 capsules."

So be cautious for those unused to these pods.

              • @INFIDEL: Haha nice pick up. Don’t think it will send you a 16 pack and best case scenario if you raise a complaint you get full refund without sending it back.

                • @wtfnodeal: Now you have the link, enjoy the 16 12 free coffees ☕

I like the Lavazza Qualità Oro pods (were available at some Coles). Also the ¡Tierra! Bio Organic & Divino pods (not available on Amazon).

Became locked into this pod system long ago when basic machines had more cashback ($50) from Lavazza than the purchase price ($25-35, down from $99).

And Lavazza sent out 32 free pods per machine. They stuffed up & sent me 480 free pods! That's a lot of free coffee☕

For me, time for a change.

                  • @INFIDEL: LOL 480 pods that is 30 boxes.
I still prefer this over the Nespresso Vertuo which I got the machine for free when I bought 150 pods from the Vertuo range. Still half way through and will go back to A Modo Mio once I have finished the Vertuo pods.

                    • @wtfnodeal: Yes, 30 boxes delivered by courier - 2 boxes at a time! A nice bonus. Plus the profit when buying the machine💰

Trouble with pod machines is - is the brand of pod coffee what you will enjoy drinking long term.

Buying a machine without sampling the coffee is a risk.

Nespresso pod machines are in some banks - handy to sample the coffees. And they demonstrate them at their specialist outlets.
Importantly, there are compatible pods - giving greater choice.

Lavazza used to be able to be sampled in David Jones & Myers. But they no longer stock pods (told they go out of date too quickly) so no samples.

Then there's the operation of the machine. Noticed some criticism of the Nespresso Vertuo - probably during that promotion.

Lavazza machines are manufactured by different companies under licence to Lavazza - some are better than others.

        • Amazon currently has 16pods pack for $7.20

Amazon are Price Matching Coles this week. ($7.20 Save $5.30)
Used to be $7 on sale, so a good price considering price rises.

Some Coles still stock these pods.
Changed location to a Coles store online - only 3 basic types stocked.

Woolies had same 3 types on sale 2 wks back, plus Qualità Rossa still on Clearance @$7.50.

(Those basic pods are OK, but not to my taste)

          • @INFIDEL: Wanted a box or 2 of Lavazza Qualità Oro to try, before retiring my old free machine.

Gave up at Coles. Only store I knew that used to stock those pods, doesn't.

Ordered on Amazon. No Prime, so min $39 purchase for free delivery.
Bought 6 for S&S, showed had a $10 gift card from promotion, so cost under $32.
            Cancelled subscription after delivery today.

            Enjoyed the coffee ☕

  • Why’s a pod machine so expensive?

    • +1

My initial thought too. Then read a good review.

Its not a basic pod machine. Has inbuilt milk frother, highly programmable settings.
"One Touch Barista: A cappuccino, large cappuccino, latte macchiato, hot or cold frothed milk or an espresso exactly as you would drink at a café."

Main downside - it's a pod machine with quite limited coffee pod styles only from Lavazza. So need to enjoy that coffee - you're stuck with it.

Lavazza site lists choice of 10 A Modo Mio pods. But only 3 or 4 basic styles available & only in some supermarkets. 6 on Amazon.
Lavazza has discontinued my favourite pods, leading me to stop using my machine - something to consider if intending long term use.

And reviews say it can be complex to initially use (comes with large manual), unlike basic pod machines.
Criticism in 1 user review that frothed milk is not hot enough, cooling coffee.
