No information on the webcam at all. Model number? All it says is $19. Hmmm

  • +1

Sorry - no details on model yet. CPL states its vlaue as $19, so probably nothing special.
I'm going in shortly to get some other things - I'll post an update when I get more info about make/model.

My guess is the Intel USB Webcam, listed as $6 on their pricelist.

They would have to give me more than a free camera to like them.
Worst customer service ever from CPL Nottinghill. Charged me a restocking fee for return of memory that was incompatable with the MB they sold me. Even though they recommended the memory in the first place.

Illegal. What a bunch of scumbags.

    • Name and shame… +++

  • +1

    Victoria only.

    • yep - edited - thanks

  • I've only had good experiences with them, but i guess thats because i've never had to return anything to them, but always thought they had good customer service…. until i heard the horror stories some people have.

    • freaking hit and runners…

    • Damn it why did that post twice…:S

  • Is the website new, or are they just slack? No product images and some categories are completely empty.

    • Just been updated..!

CPL is the WORST computer store in Australia. Sold me a faulty product, which I returned on the same day, but they wouldn't accept the return. Manufacturer acknowledged it was faulty, and said it would refund CPL so CPL could refund me, but CPL decided to keep the manufacturer's money and not refund me. When I complained, they had the gall to insult me, calling me stupid, in front of all the customers. Fraudulent company, avoid!!!

when I used to shop at CPL the amount of verbal arguments and physical confrontations I saw were astounding.

    • I haven't dealt with them for a few years, but in the past they were very helpful to me with swapping over a motherboard that was incompatible with some RAM they had also sold me.

      • "incompatible with some RAM they had also sold me."

Seems they have a habit of doing this… see post above.

  • Regular public/nontech customers going to CPL? Your going to have a bad time… :)

Computer literate types? Great prices, no problem at all. Must have shopped there hundreds of times myself. Similar to MSY, but better "service".

    • I thought it, you wrote it!

    • +1

I can assure you I am computer literate. Started with Tandy TRS80 and home built expansion boards. Still stand by my comment worst store I have dealt with and I have dealt with many over the last 35 years or more. From your comments it is obvious you have not had to return anything.

I have had to return stock, I told them I wanted a refund for a MB that was DOA and they happily refunded me.
I just told them it was dead and I wanted a refund, and chose to buy another make and model a couple of weeks later!

Ok seriously i read the entire 2 threads and i can't believe how angry i am at the moment. If it would have been me in any of those circumstances i would have beat someone up really badly, be it the salesperson or the (EDIT manager) lady. None of the counters would have stopped me.

      • Fellator - why not give a summary of what you see the issues are to you. Note that the first of these is 3 years old

Rack - I dont think the racial background of the person is relevant, position maybe. Edited.

    • Wow. This company sounds bad.

    • I thought the post was about a freebie (excl postage). Your negative vote is about a customer server someone experienced somewhere.. I don't understand.

If I am you, I'll take the freebie and never buy anything after that!

  • Okay, got it now. It's a 1.3Mp camera, built in Mic, with an Intel promo label, but marked "This is not an Intel product. This is a promotional item not for re-sale". Windows detects it as a Vimicro USB Camera (Altair).
Seems to work fine so far.

    • Any chance you can take a pic of it for us?

  • Oh wow, I actually bought a TP LINK W8960N from them more than a year ago from their Highpoint, VIC store. And thank goodness it has not died yet, reading from those comments really worry me.

  • Had a real good experience, just scored a free webcam

Ok just picked up two! (girlfriend + me, two FB accounts) Serapax is correct 1.3Mp! "This is not an Intel product. This is a promotional item not for re-sale"
But hey free and has a Mic built in, so an Ozbargain!
And to the CPL haters, go buy a premade PC from HN and get the "service" you paid for!
    Thanks OP!

    • "go buy a premade PC from HN and get the "service" you paid for!"
Had to return a laptop to local hn and was back within 5 working days. The service was the best i had received with returning a product ever. I'm not saying all hn's are as good though, just that they do have one service dept that is tops.

I cant' believe anybody would buy from CPL…
get your free stuff.. thats fine.. but whatevere you do.. do not give any money to them…

They are worse than gamedude, ddcc, pcmaniacs and megabuy put together..

I've had two horrible expeirences with them.. none with MSY, PC casegear, or PCDIY, or centrecom…

The most memorable was buying a hauppauge 2200 TV tuner..
When I recieved it from the sales person.. it had obviously been used and abused by someone before..
I asked for a "new" one.. instead.. and was told.. all the stock was like that.
I then asked if I took it home and it didn't worked whether I could have my money back… they said that was not possible..
So I asked for a refund. on the spot.. (ie. I had not left the shop or counter with the item)..
They made me filled out a whole RMA form and made me wait for 30m minutes before giving my monye back.. (Mind you I had the item for less than 10secs.. before spotting it was used.. (I always check stuff from CPL.. because they are so dodgy)…

Subseqeuently I went to PCDIY for the first. time.. and they had stock fo the item…. it was fully sealed. and clearly brand new..

    CPL.. never again…

    Pic as requested:

I'm surprised to hear the negative feedback re. CPL. I've been using them extensively (and MSY etc) for close to twelve years (yes, I'm that old!) and I've never had a problem.

    Cheers!

    • Thx. Very much appreciated. :D
