Check out the new drone here: https://www.dji.com/mini-3-pro

  • +6

That's a LOT of money for a DJI Mini.

Edit. Looks pretty swish though. That RC controller is very nice.

    • +1

tbh this seems to be on the same tech level as an Air 2, which is still more expensive than this and doesn't have the option of a 45 minute flight time. I reckon all things considered this is the consumer-level drone to get.

Oh, also this has a 1/1.3 inch sensor, compared to the Air 2's 1/2 inch. So based purely on specs this outclasses the air 2 for several hundred dollars less.

  • +8

the drone looks to be a big upgrade if you are coming from DJI Mini 2

    • +3

Also a big upgrade in price. The Base mini3 with no RC costs more than the Mini 2 + RC+FMC combined.

      • Yeah it’s impressive but I’m leaning towards getting a mini 2 for my first done and at roughly half the price.

        • +2

Yep the refurbs are excellent value as they come with full DJI warranty.

        • +1

I think it comes down to what you want to use it for. The mini 2 is good if you want a (relatively) cheap drone that you can have some fun zooming around with, take some neat shots, and not take too seriously. I think the Mini 3 is the jumping off point for more serious drone photography, or someone who is just getting into semi-professional or at least prosumer-level filming, but isn't ready to spend timer or the money on drone licensing and certification.

          • @TheRealCJ: Yeah seems reasonable. I have seen some awesome footage of the mini 2 as well though.

    • Also a very pricey upgrade =/

  • Was going to post this too. It's considerably cheaper than through the website. The Fly More Plus is also discounted to $330:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165475976296?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&…

    • Thanks mate, have just added to the deal description!

  • Thanks will upgrade my mini 2

  • Does anyone know if this is an upgrade from an air 2?

    • +1

100% The camera sensor is larger and the Gimbal design will help eliminate the 'horizon tilt' issue a lot of the older drones have. It's also lighter than the Air 2, but has the option for a long-range battery (47 minutes, according to DJI), and even with the RC Controller it comes in at less than the cost of an Air 2

    • +6

Disregarding the specs (comment above suggesting its on par or better), there's some benefit to the drone being sub 250g.

      • Can fly within 5.5km of a controlled airport per CASA rules
      • Smaller, quieter, makes it easier to break the rules without getting caught (which, let's be honest, most people do e.g. flying within 30m or above other people, in national parks, or beyond line of sight)
      • Safer, less likely to cause personal or property damage if you do hit something (which, if it did happen, could put you in big doo doo if you were breaking CASA rules)
      • -2

But… the slightest wind, and they get ragdolled. I’ve borrowed one for use a lot with work, an it always has the sphincter twitching. Full size: full confidence returns, and cna actually be used in all conditions

        • I was very impressed with the mini 2's wind resistance and camera stabilisation. But yes, better performance in strong wind would be an advantage of a larger/heaver drone.

  • Nice!

  • probably didnt intend to include it into the ebay discount. gone already

    • +2

The pack with the RC controller is still in stock! Have updated title to reflect.

      • don't tempt me like thisssss T.T

  • -1

Is this any good against Russian artillery :)?

    • I think I read dji stopped selling into Ukraine so not really

    • Smaller than many drones, so harder to hit.

  • -1

Fly More Combo edition is the interesting one - 2 of those. FMC regular and FMC in excess 250 grams.

    • Who's gonna stop you and weigh your drone?

      • -1

I agree but I've heard the Mini 1 / 2 have "249g" printed on the side of the drone - so if someone is going to challenge you somehow (park ranger, smart cop?) you've got data proving no problem.

Mini 3 has 249g printed on BATTERY.

When you insert the larger battery, 249g is no longer printed on the drone.

  • I got the mini (official refurbished) only for $299 a month ago.
    Shall I upgrade?

    • Night and day difference between these 2 drones. If you fly alot and edit your footage or post to Instagram etc, I think it's worth it. But 300 bucks a pretty good deal for those that don't use it very often.

    • It’s a giant step in price. I’m looking at all three models and deciding. The 3 is probably too expensive for me but it is nice. I guess you could sell yours for little loss otherwise I’m sure it’s still a great drone.

  • +3

Looks cool, hopefully means another drop in the mini 2 or se

    • +1

      That’s what I’m hoping too.

  • The only thing stopping this from deserving the pro name is lack of 10 bit and d-log. I'd be all over it otherwise. Everything else looks good.

Although the screen on the RC really should be 1000 nits for perfect daylight visibility, 700 nits isn't quite enough to combat a bright sunny day.

    • +2

The standalone RC Pro Controller that is 1000 nits costs the same as an entire Mini 3 Pro w/ 700nit RC Controller plus Fly More Combo Plus

1000nits would be nice, but it was never going to happen at this price with how DJI works

      • bruuuh, didn't realise the rc pro was $1500+.

Still wish the mini 3 had 10 bit though.

    • Yeah, it would be insane if it had 10-bit and D-log. I am keeping my Air 2S, looking forward to comparing the 2 but I don't think this will beat it with image quality or ease of colour grading.

      • +1

At least the mini 3 has d-cinelike, which gives some level of flexibility. The main thing that infuriates me is dji doesn't list all the relevant specs on their website. Like you say it has dual native iso, but at which iso's?!

        • -1

Yeah I love how vague they can be when it counts. I bought it based on what I know and the fact that I sold my mini ages ago in anticipation for this. Realistically, I was going to buy it regardless of all the specs. They know that people like me will buy it anyway but it's still not a great way to run a business.

  • Ordered one with the lcd controller.

    • +1

Same. I kinda wish they were selling the fly more as well as the fly more plus.

      • +2

Yeah sort of not worth it without the flymore pack. But I'll just wait for it to become available, hopefully with a little ebay discount and buy then

      • What even is the difference? This has the same photo as the +: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313992289607

        Edit: oh, flight time

  • +1

Amazing deal. I bought one (with display controller) plus fly more kit. Case is essential to keeping this thing safe, plus the more powerful battery included gives more runtime.

    • But crucially takes it over the 250g meaning you'll need to register it and abide by all 250g+ rules.

      • Yeah 😃😃😃

  • +3

Yeah great, now i can buy this and not use it

  • How far can this thing go?

    • 12kms

    • -1

Only 3 km max in Australia

      • Oh that sucks

      • So are these firmware limited to 3km range just because they're sold in Australia?

        • The frequencies the RC is allowed to transmit is significantly reduced due to Australian laws or something. I think the theoretical max is 6 km in Aus but I've been able to go max 2-3 km with my Mavic Air 2 and this drone uses the same transmission tech.

  • +1

Noticed that Jack showed up.. price for the Mini 3 pro with RC now showing $1462.

  • +1

    All gone. Listing ended

  • How do we buy the 2 years DJI care program for this drone?

    • by direct from dji without any issues. just receipt needed

    • You can always buys this directly from DJI within 48 hours of turning on the drone for the first time

  • In case anyone is still looking for one. please use PLUSMAY1 for AU $1,234.05.

I am very much tempted. Will it have more discounts in future?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313992289485

    • Worth it for the extra $$ - avoid allphones, at allcosts!

      • Any reason why? They seem ok with mostly positive feedback.

        • I'm guessing you've never bought anything from them. I have - never again.

          • @Orrelljet: Nope, I was in a hurry this morning sensing the product would go out of stock with the ebay discounts. Lack of customer service?

            • @avivadz: I hope your experience is better than mine. I purchased an iPhone that was nothing like the decription, despite them confirming the details via email, so had the hassle of arguing my case and returning etc.

  • Which is one better, air2s Or this mini3 pro?

  • How much can I sell my mini2 fly more combo now? still have 1 year DJI care.

    • About $450 with shipping.

  • A perhaps silly question for "people who know things" in this space.

The second hand market has used Mini 2 Fly More packs at around $700. For a hobbyist, what is the consensus on value - let's take it as fact that the 3 is way better in a vacuum, but how is the value equation when weighing up a lightly used Mini 2 Fly More vs a base Mini 3 package when factoring in the extra $500 or so?

And of course apples to apples, a Mini3 Fly More would be almost double the 2nd hand Mini 2.

    • Mini 2 Fly More Combo below $800 a few weeks ago, brand new.

Used - for a mechanical device, shouldn't fetch more than $550 at best.

      • Good to know - a shallow search from me thus far on Marketplace for a price guide. At around that mark, value equation seems to point pretty firmly in favour of a Mini 2 unless you know what you're doing (or can splash cash around).

        • +2

a lot of mini 2 drones have been posted on marketplace since this was announced, give it some time and used price of mini 2 will drop

    • +1

      @wazman67

      • let's take it as fact that the 3 is way better in a vacuum

I think you'll struggle to fly most drones in a vacuum 😂

  • Hey guys,

just wondering if buying one of these to use around Victoria (mostly Mornington Peninsula) is worth it? Or are the rules too restrictive?

    • +5

Depends on what you want to do, really.

You need to keep 30m from cars, buildings and people, so within cities and towns you can only really fly in bigger parks and on beaches. This gets boring quickly.

Really cool places to take pictures are national parks, but unfortunately Parks Victoria has banned drones from all their parks.

That kinda rules out most of the cool places. It's really just beaches where flying is worthwhile. But you can't fly in strong winds, which often is a problem on beaches too.

So all in all, unless you have some specific ideas where to film, you might get bored quickly. I took some amazing shots in WA and QLD, where drones are mostly allowed in national parks, but not a lot in Victoria.

      • thanks for the reply!

  • +2

Thanks, OP. Picked up one of the bundles with the fancy-pants controller plus a Fly More kit.

I fear that it will end up in the cupboard alongside my Mavic Air (with Fly More kit) which has seen less than 10 hrs flight time since new. 🤦‍♂️

  • Sooooo tempting, though my Mini SE (flymore, which I got for like $400) does basically everything I want it to do.

Still, this is a really nice upgrade. Maybe in a couple of years when it can be had for cheaper.

  • Watched the video…disappointed.
    No tanks exploding :(

  • +5

Wow dick move… they jacked up the price.

DJI Mini 3 Pro with RC remote controller

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165477037365?hash=item2687333535…

    Now: AU $1,427.80

    • Yeah this is typical of eBay sellers, they jack up the price so that with discount it is barely anything off the RRP… might as well just buy directly from DJI
It's also against consumer law but eBay and the sellers ignore it

Anyone know of places that have an actual discount? Otherwise, just going to go via DJI

  • +1

Anyone know if DJI still have the trade in program going?

  • +1

Flymore Plus pack now available again, albeit at a raised price this time: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165477037363?ssPageName=STRK%3AM…

    $346 with ebay discount.

    • Interesting that this is separate rather than being a pack with the drone. Might just buy the drone to start with, and wait for a good deal on the fly more later.

  • I want to change over from the Air 2S, finally the mini has d-log, tracking and sensors which was always the essentials for any half serious video drone flyer
The size and weight opens up more flyable areas and just much easier to carry
The 47min flight time is insane, though it takes the weight over 250g… but who is going to check that much? haha
