Samsung AU8000 75" Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV [2021] $1,495 + Shipping ($0 Pickup/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

770

Looks like JB Hi-Fi Clearing stock.
I have the 2020 model and all I can say this is the TV I recommend if you aim to buy a cheap 4k TV then buy this instead of the off-brand ones since you will have a similar picture quality but a snappier OS, better speakers and a better remote vs something like EKO or Blaupunkt.
the extra you pay vs the off-brand TV's is worth it if you don't plan to have a sound bar + streaming stick connected and just want a simple working TV that isn't OLED money.

I would NOT buy this at RRP.

For what it's worth, as far as I can tell (and unsurprisingly based on the price) this does not have HDMI 2.1, so not compatible if you're after that part of a TV

    • Correct me if I'm wrong. You can still use an HDMI 2 output with an HDMI 2.1 input, e.g. PS5 has HDMI 2.1 technology and you can connect it to a HDMI 2 TV.

Absolutely you can, but if you want the benefits (like 4k 120fps gaming for example), you need a hdmi 2.1 compliant TV to make it work

I have been looking for 65 inch. Anyone knows of any deals.

I managed to haggle down the latest 2022 Samsung 65" BU8000 (the successor to the AU8000) to $1231 at the Good Guys last week if that helps

      • How come did you manage to bring the price down? I am after that new model so really quires to know.

      • TGG Store name please.
TGG auburn asking for 10k order to match this price

Almost EOFY… hold off in my opinion

      • +1

Why ?? EOFY is irrelevant when the tv cycle EOL is roughly this time when the new models come out, EOFY is great for I.T but black Friday specials is amazing for TVs !!

      • rtings.com suggest otherwise

Though summer is our winter being american based, prices fluctuate the same world round.

My advice is to see this tv in store next to other TVs before buying. I notice these budget Samsungs have serious frame drop issues. Deal breaker at any price

    • -1

I noticed the demo video they play on high end samsung TVs are more colour full and better pictures compared to budget samsung tv

      • +1

        Crazy

        • +1

Ask the rep to play same video on all the TVs to find the real difference

    $10 code?

  • Frame drops just on watching TV and prerecorded shows?
Or you talking about when gaming?

  • Is this better or Samsung The Frame?

    • +5

Frame is better in every sense. It's a Qled that looks much better and comes with a mount. But it's also more expensive.

I bought the 65 inch model and there’s a ticking noise with it . Like when you play stuff you’ll hear crackling coming out of the back . It’s also there for a while after the tv turns off which is not what you want in your bedroom when your going to sleep
It’s pretty good asides from this ,

I’d recommend adjusting the brightness and contrast if you have issues with very dark scenes

    • I have the exact same issue with the 85” model as well.. otherwise it’s a great TV for what you pay!

    • sounds like you need to return this.

  • If anyone cares, I bought the 55” BU8000 for $895 from the good guys last week.

Haven’t used it much yet. The tizen software and being forced to create a sumsung account was annoying. The picture is great for the price. The TV is very slim (2.5cm) and airplay 2 is very cool.

How's that even remotely close this is a 75"…..

  • I've got the 2020 version of this in 50 inch and can agree with OP it's a great TV for the price. Both parents have variations of the more expensive OLED models, apart from perhaps higher natural brightness (can be overcome tweaking the settings) there really isn't a big difference IMO.

How does this compare with the Hisense A7G which is also the same price? I was told by the guy at JB that the Hisense A7G 75" is better as this Samsung is entry level.

    • I have the same question. Reviews look good on the Hisense. I am very tempted, so wondering how it compares to this one.

  • Kind of disagree with OP in that I think you will need a sound bar (any TV does) and eventually a streaming stick as TVs don't keep their software updated and if new streaming services get introduced they don't add them.

    • not saying you wont benefit with a sound bar, but majority of people don't need one until they cant hear the dialogue in a show or movie which you don't have that issue with this TV. i would also argue that Samsung has gotten their UI to a place that majority of users are happy with. most streaming apps are avail and work great.
i have a blaupunkt TV i got for cheap and dialogue is poo and it required a sound bar and a streaming stick. add that to the price and hassle of additional remotes and set up. for someone like me who is in IT its not a problem but most users its a hassle.

      • Oh wow didn't know there were TVs where you actually can't hear the dialogue. I stand corrected then.

With the OS I found even TVs that come with Android or Google TV don't update them and they eventually become annoying to use. Yeah additional remotes might be a pain. They make it quite simple these days though. You don't have to manually input codes for your specific TV etc. Just the brand and then the system will try to find the right one with trial and error.
