            • @Exec-Matrix: So what's pure Android?
You get the idea. Mine runs Android 12.

    • -2

Still the case with this model

      • +1

Someone mentioned or implied Telstra do something to it, surely they don't mess with it these days (like branding, locked or bloatware).

        • +2

It’s all SIM based them blocking updates. Put in a non-Telstra SIM and Bob’s your uncle

          • @kerfuffle: Good to know mate.
Thought they wouldn't mess with it at all these days but usually buy outright from ow or Google. Was lucky enough last time to get ow to price beat Telstra on the pixel 5

          • @kerfuffle: @kerfuffle Oh, well that's good to know, does a "non-Telstra SIM" include Boost Mobile?

            • @PukeyLuke: Dunno. I used an ALDImobile SIM to trigger the update if that helps.

    • Got all my pixels through JBhifi / Telstra. Never had a delay with updates.

      • My Pixel 4 didn’t get updated to 12 until Telstra deemed it ready. Bypassed it by using an ALDImobile SIM.

    • +1

Done via the Telstra network blocking the OTA update, not on the phone itself. Can put in any other SIM (don't even think it needs to be active) and the update will then come down over WiFi.

  • I'm looking for a good outright bargain for an IPhone 12 or 13. 😭

    • +1

If you waited this long, just wait a tiny bit longer for the iPixel 14

      • Too long. It's for my son. His old phone is dying so I just want to buy him something that will last the next 3-4 years. I have a 13 Pro Max myself already.

        • iPhone SE is perfect for children.

          • @onlinepred: One handed typing and operating is good with the smaller form factors, longer battery, don't bend

            • @G-rig: It's for kids. If they aren't browsing the web all day and playing games, it will last a day or two.

          • @onlinepred: He wants a larger screen. Otherwise yes I agree!

    • +1

What sort of "bargain" are we talking about?

Apple products don't really drop beyond a certain price.

      • Actually I would be happy with Amazon's previous $1247 for iPhone 13. Not after a huge bargain. I didn't need the phone a month or two ago when they had their pricing. Or sub $1k for iPhone 12.

  • +1

What stores would price match this?

  • +3

Why do people like such heavy phones? This phone is over 200g!

    • +1

Weight is very awkward IMO as well. It's not much heavier than my note 9, but FEELS significantly heavier due to it being very top heavy.

    • Weight not so much of an issue for me, I am a big boy. Size is though, hence my Z Flip 3.

    • -1

Maybe to go the gym if 200g is too heavy for you

      • I had a Nokia once that weighed 80g. I'm just sick of phones getting heavier and heavier.

        • Fair enough but you're talking about a top tier phone with multiple cameras and a large screen. You can just buy a smaller phone if you don't like it

    • Great camera at a much cheaper price than iphone.

  • -6

Spy phones. Gonna dump all these android gadgets and turn to iPhone and why would anyone buy pixel? Lol

    • +1

Half the price and no iTunes BS?

      • +2

Are we back in 2010? iPhones don’t need iTunes at all

        • ha, yes the last iPhone I had was the 3G, and jailbroke it.

Have never really been in the ecosystem but it would be a big change and stuff around. I'm a fan of their hardware and design, great products and stuff works well. Suppose the price close to $2k these days is a turn off, but wouldn't mind a smaller format SE or something (or the non-max), one day may give into it if the pixels keep getting more average.

          • @G-rig: The pixels have been getting more average since pixel 1 xl

        • How do you transfer files from your PC on and off then?

  • Is cheap compared to Apple ones. If you buy last year model you will never get brand new for $799 nor $1099

  • Can you select outright and use your Telstra plus points to bring the cost down further? I tried checking out but got to the point where it asks about credit check so didn't want to go further

    • Yes it offered it to me and I only have around 7k points

  • Anyone tried to price match at JB? If I could use my discounted gift cards, I'd go for it…

  • +6

The great thing about the Pixel 6 is that by the time the fingerprint sensor unlocks the phone, the Pixel 7 will be out. You won't even notice it.

  • I wish that the Pixel 6 was closer to 6.0'' or the Pixel 6A was 90Hz.

My only other choices are S22 and iPhone 13 Pro… Unless there were a 6'' Dimensity phone?

    • Both those phones are really fantastic phones, IMO a substantial jump up from Pixel 6.

    • I wish that the Pixel 6 was closer to 6.0'' or the Pixel 6A was 90Hz.

Yeah I'm not sure who decided that the only option is a giant phone. This is why the Pixel 5 is still a better buy IMO

    • Zenfone 8 has 5.9" 120Hz screen

  • What's easiest way to get telstra ID?
Anyone tried signing up to $2 prepaid sim is enough?

  • both JB and Officeworks refused to price match this offer, they even tried to add this in cart and check out to see the final price and it required ID credit check, this offer is mainly designed for Telstra plans, so is it a really good deal? I doubt it

    • I just went all the way through the Telstra checkout up to the last step, 6 out of 6 which is enter payment details.

Yes, I had to verify ID. Yes, it did a credit check (and no, I don't care).

Other than having a Telstra ID from years gone by I have no active service with them. The landline is long gone when NBN arrived, the last pre-paid SIM long expired.

  • be warned. google dont seem to give an F.

    https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/217589152

people who have replaced screen. and fingerprint simply will not work.

  • so what will be the best option for pure Android OS except Pixel phones?
Since OnePlus is no longer support Oxygen OS, is there any other phones on the market now?

    • Generally there aren't that many options for pure Android.

It's a shame Android One has slowly died. I think Nokia still makes them?

Some manufacturers ship very close to stock Android these days, like Motorola, Asus and Sony — although I don't think Sony sells in Australia officially any more.

      Otherwise there's always custom roms.

    • OnePlus is more expensive than pixels, and basically is Oppo after share with colour os.

I still use oneplus 7 as my backup phone, still very fast. The downside is camera .

  • -2

A superior alternative to the crappy Samsungs that stooges love to buy.

Unsure why people keep running away from pure android.

    So dumb…..

    • because it's a brick

  • +1

Received an email with JBHIFI having $300 all models, with a coupon attached to it.

    • If anyone wants the coupon - let me know. It’s $300 all pixel 6 pro models at JBHIFI expires on the 20th of may. Shoot your email across, first in will have it. If your not going to buy, don’t be a stooge and ask for it.

      • Confirmed - can be entered in online.

    • That's great news! I usually get the JB offers, not yet this one. Would love a code. Can you please PM me? I don't think I can message you.

  • do you think they will drop the price further to clear the stock

    • Of course it will. Technology price will always drop when new ones comes out.

  • Is no one else having delayed notifications on these phones? How is everyone living with this? I had to begrudgingly switch to an iPhone just for this. Not because I love the platform or anything but just for on time notifications. The last straw for me was ebay notification reminders for an item I was bidding on arriving 15 minutes after the listing ended.. and that too only because I turned on the screen to check.

  • Pixel 6pro owner. Still miss my Pixel 3a. Night camera on 3a is much better than Pixel 6 Pro. Notification swipe using finger scanner at back of Pixel 3a is the most useful feature I miss. Battery life is almost the same for both. Injust wanted bigger screen so upgraded

  • Pixel 3xl owner ,looking to upgrade right now mainly due to battery issues and less updates, would it be better getting a pixel 5 roughly $5+600 refurb or anew pixel 6 @ 8-900 ish, for a hassle free phone for daily calls and texts and web browsing I use number locking/password ,never game or use the camera for anything technical or use the fingerprint or facelocking

    • 3XL was great, I got a refurbished replacement but sold it whilst new and got a pixel 5.
My 5 owes me $760, could have done another price protection claim but was outside of a year now.
I'd recommend the 5 anyway, especially if you just want something simple.
Dpends how much you want to pay I guess.

  • I have a Telstra account but no active connections, they wouldn't let me purchase this item in store, also was going to get the S22 with watch redemption and was advised that you need a contract in place to get the free watch, Samsung T&C's note that outright purchases are accepted "Participating Products must be ordered by payment in full or a contract on eligible Telstra consumer or business plans. Outright sales are accepted" ?? doesn't add up to me!

    • +2

Bought a Pixel 6 just now with a TelstraID with only a prepaid service attached. Just had to select the "Outright" option instead of the monthly repayments, and scroll down and I could continue through without adding a mobile plan.

      • Excellent stuff :-), nice work! I'm rephasing my above comment, I took delivery today of the Pixel 6 used some Telstra points paid slightly less than the $799 which is good, I went in to store yesterday to also buy the S22 with the intension to get the Watch 4 on redemption from Samsung however they told me that I had to have an active connection for redemption, upon reading the T&C's outlaid, I'm questioning the person that told me this and checking with another store to buy S22 outright and still redeem the Watch 4, as Samsung T&C's appear to me that outright is possible?.
