  • Factory Scoop means not new, right?

    • No. It means it's been scooped from the factory.

      Basically it's a sale. That's about it.

Not to be confused with factory seconds

  • It's a good deal compared to other retailers but it crap value spec wise. It's video card is horrible.

  • No, they are brand new, just heavily discounted. That's my take on it anyway.

    • OK, I think is like second world, new but discontinued.

  • How about this for $599 http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/psc2fa-00s001-toshiba-sa… and get a laptop bag for $1

    • That's a full size lappy tho, with no dedicated video card. I thought this was a good price for a 13.3" baaaaby laptop.

  • Can u give anymore info about the video card, why it's crap? Explained in simple terms, fit for a dummy?

  • white is a bit meh

I bought an i5 15 inch laptop for $750 one year ago with better vid card - probably with the same chipset as the new Intel chipsets are yet to become widespread. I think this may not be the bargain your looking for.

My son has this PC. Got it from Dick Smith six months ago for just over $600. It isnt pure white, has a kinda white patterned texure.
Nice small-ish size (a lot lighter and smaller than his 13inch apple macbook), and has an optical drive which most don't have now. speakers work good.
the only thing I would have liked was a backlit keyboard.
This, of course, was before ultrabooks came out (but they dont have an optical drive that my son insisted on)

    • Technically it's bigger and heavier than the current 13" MacBook Pro.

      Toshiba L730: 2.10kg 329mm x 221mm x 27.9/36.9mm (height slants increasing from front to back)
      Apple Macbook Pro 13": 2.04 kg 325mm x 227mm x 24.1mm

I'm guessing you have an older model.

      • Sorry, I said the the macbook, I meant the white one, never said the pro version.

We have both at home and the toshiba is lighter and smaller but has the same sized screen.
Comparing the two the toshiba is a much better laptop.

        • Non-pro MacBook no longer exists :P They stopped producing them about a year ago.

So yeah, no doubt you have an older model.

  • So can anyone track down a 13.3" laptop with better specs for a better or similar price?
Static ice has this model way out in front, as far as price is concerned, anyway.

    • I was going to get this for my partner (Officeworks have this model BW so price match there and get the extra 5% off) as she wanted an ODD & plenty of storage which ruled out ultrabooks, but we ended up getting her the HP dm4-3011tx instead for $710 - which has a backlit keyboard and 8GB ram

      • You are right about OW price match- went into my local OW today and they were happy to pricematch and take off the the 5%, but they did first add the $18 delivery fee. So final price out of OW was $681.15.

Im going overseas soon so get to take 10% off that price too.

    • I would get this one, just because I have it and it seems to be really good compared to others we have at home - and it is cheap.

  • This looks like this model on the Toshiba site.

Actually look pretty good. Includes one USB3 port. Weight is reasonable.
