Yamaha RX-V771 AV Receiver $674 + $18 delivery @ JB-HiFI

50

Here is a great price for an midrange AVR with some nice features.
Dual HDMI out, though can only be the same source from each output.
Party mode - for using digital audio sources in zone 2, most AVRs can only use analogue for multi-zone.
Network functions for streaming audio from PC, NAS etc and internet radio.
Android and iPhone/iPad apps available to control the AVR if connected to your network.

The 771 is a much better AVR than the lower entry level models and is very good value at this price.

  • 7-channel 665W = 95W x 7 (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09% THD, 2ch driven)
  • Discrete amp configuration
  • Access to Internet Radio, Streaming Service and music files on PC
  • AV Controller app for operating various functions from an iPhone, etc.
  • Front panel USB Digital Connection for iPod and iPhone
  • Advanced multi-language GUI on-screen display with album art
  • 1080p-compatible HDMI: 6 in (1 on front) and 2 out (simultaneous), with 3D and Audio Return Channel
  • HDMI front panel input for devices such as camcorders and digital cameras
  • HDMI CEC with versatile control from AV Receiver remote control
  • YPAO sound optimisation with multi-point measurement
  • HD Audio decoding with CINEMA DSP 3D (17 DSP programmes)

The 571 uses cheaper lower quality chip amps, and it's power rating is very dodgy it should be 65w x 7 = 455w not the dubious 735w Yamaha claim.

The 771(671 and up also) use a discrete amp config, these give far better performance than the cheaper chip amp designs.

  • I just picked up the onkyo tx-nr509 from Harvey for $499, very happy with that.

  • Does anyone know if these things can plug into a PS3, so that I can plug my 5.1 speakers into this receiver for great audio moments?

    • Yep plug your PS3 in via HDMI for full HD audio.

      What speakers do you have?

If they are PC type speakers then no likely won't be compatible, if they are home type speakers with normal connections for speaker wire they should be ok.
Is your subwoofer self-powered(has it's own amp)?

  • Its not rxv771, this is rxv770 the older model
