Something being free isn’t coercion. If I offer you a free donut and you decline, am I coercing you to eat donuts?

      • +2

How could morse do this to us? You know we can't refuse donuts!!

        • +3

*disclaimer I’m not actually offering free donuts

I should have know better than stating something like this on ozB

    • +4

      freedom from Vaccination coercion!!!

You need to watch for deals on a dictionary, you have no understanding of the word coercion.

        Stop coercing them into reading…..

This is great news if not a little late, but still great if you haven’t had it this year. I’ve already had mine through work.

The year I accidentally missed mine I got the flu (confirmed as such) and it was awful vomiting, fevers, the lot.

For states that aren’t covering this it’s only $15 to pay privately, which I figure is a good deal. Also free everywhere for under 5s and over 65s.

95% of the adult population is vaccinated so of course the majority of people getting COVID are vaccinated. But on the whole they are not getting that sick, which was the point of the vaccine (that and reducing deaths)

Notice how we’re not building mass graves for our dead like the other countries were prior to vaccination?

you have believed and are sprouting the gov spin very nicely, well done lol

And this is why they need to teach critical thinking, probability and statistics better in high school. Might fix some gamblers too.

I can think of 3 reasons off the top of my head why the number is higher. Can you?

    • Serious question… what have you concluded from this analysis?

      • If you're expecting critical thought, you might be out of luck.

  • I wonder how exactly are they going to do this for the following reasons.

Supply issues. My doctor's clinic have mentioned supply this year has been absolute shambles. Another place mentioned the same thing on twitter "how can we give something for free that we just don't have? Covid19 vaccines/rat tests all over again."

Double dipping. I currently have a flu vaccine appointment spot which I paid in advance for this coming Thursday. Could they double dip and say yes we gave penguincat a free one when they didn't. In turn pocketing the money I gave them and money from the government?

    • Could they double dip and say yes we gave penguincat a free one when they didn't. In turn pocketing the money I gave them and money from the government?

Sure, but it would be Medicare fraud which is taken pretty seriously.

Supply of the publicly funded ones is always slower than private. Annoys me every year.

Perhaps this scheme that is doing it through pharmacies will be better as a state gov thing as I usually find they have them in stock before gps get there’s through the federal government scheme.

I just got a message from the pharmacy I was booked into saying

        "Hi ,

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that QLD Health will fund free flu vaccines to all Queenslanders aged between 5 and 65 years. This program will commence on Tuesday May 24 2022 and run until Thursday June 30 2022 at Queensland pharmacies offering the influenza immunisation service.

We appreciate that you have already made a booking to receive an influenza vaccine with your local pharmacy.

We will process a refund over the coming days to anyone with a pre-paid appointment, as we get more clarity of the program. Please do not cancel your appointment if you still wish to receive your flu immunisation. "

So looks like I get my money back :)

        • That’s actually great! Nice work

I was a little disappointed in how we are “learning nothing” from the covid pandemic, but this is encouraging. Hopefully we see influenza RATs become accessible to the public, as they always should have been.

We need to stop treating respiratory infections as a ‘fact of life’ and start testing, treating, immunising and isolating as a matter of routine.

    • -6

Routine for boomers. The young and healthy don't need this.

      • The young and healthy probably can't afford to be off work for 2-3 weeks.

    • -6

haha, how about stopping feeding your face crap, do some exercise and let your immune system do it's job

      • -5

        👍

They would rather chow KFC, drink cans of coke and pamp 💉 annually than eat healthily and 🏃.

      • Vaccines are a basically a gym routine for your immune system.

        • Hahaha

works about as good as the covid vax lol

A free flu jab will be available to all NSW residents in a month-long blitz from June 1 in an effort to combat this year’s expected severe influenza season.

With a sharp increase in flu cases already, the NSW Government will fund flu vaccinations at GPs and pharmacies until June 30.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said there were 1,140 cases of respiratory illness notified this week, compared with 766 in the previous week and 150 presentations and admissions to hospitals.

“We strongly urge everyone over six months of age to get a flu shot as soon as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones, as the virus is easily spread and potentially deadly,” Dr Chant said.

“This is particularly important for those in high-risk groups, such as the elderly and children aged six months to five years. If you live in an aged or disability care facility, are aged over 65 or are immunocompromised, now is the time to book in.

“We also recommend a COVID-19 winter booster if you are eligible, as both flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same time.”

The Commonwealth Government provides vaccines for vulnerable populations, and funds GPs through the MBS to administer vaccines. However, as COVID-19 has taught us, the role of pharmacies is crucial and the NSW Government is funding community pharmacies to deliver influenza vaccinations this June.

NSW Health has also permitted pharmacies to administer flu vaccines to children aged five years old, reduced from 10 years, making it easier for families to be vaccinated together. GPs will be reimbursed for any flu stock they have already purchased that is used in the month of June for this vaccination program.

The Commonwealth Government provides free flu vaccine for those considered to be at higher risk of severe illness from the flu, including:
    - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from six months of age
    - Children from six months to under five years of age
    - People with serious health conditions (including severe asthma, diabetes, cancer, immune disorders, obesity, kidney, heart, lung or liver disease)
    - Pregnant women
    - People aged 65 and over.

Other protective measures individuals can take include staying at home if sick and washing your hands. Find out more about how to protect yourself from the flu at www.nsw.gov.au/flu.

        worth what

      • Lol, raised a good point with a fact and you still got a down vote. Don't question the narrative.

        • I know right, what a sad state of affairs.

I'm happy to use a product if it works.

@Supercool: A) if it works, and
            B) if it's safe.
            Big fail on both.

But they Claim Warnie died of drinking orange juice, one of very many ridiculous explanations of deaths. "Died of a short illness, unexpected, everyone in shock, thoughts and prayers" but no real investigation. Cremate 'em fast.

            • @trevor99: Interesting points, however we're talking about the flu vax here.

      NSW following QLD as always.

people are disgusting, was at the shops yesterday afternoon, coughing and sneezing all over the place without covering their mouths…. this is why I continue to wear a mask in public spaces… people have learnt nothing over the past couple years and now we've got the flu going mad everywhere as well as the continuation of covid… pleased the flu shot is free for me every year due to health issues, but hopefully this will encourage a few more to get it. I was at my GP getting mine while someone was there with the flu and she sounded absolutely terrible, thankfully everyone had masks on and stayed as seperated as possible or I dare say I'd have it by now myself.

Nah, will use my immune system, perfected over millions of years.

  • Merged from Free Flu Jab for All WA Residents in June 2022

    Moved to Forum: Original Link

All Western Australians will have the opportunity to receive a free flu vaccination during the month of June.

WA has done a fantastic job throughout the pandemic and, with winter approaching, everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated for the flu and stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations.

To get your free flu vaccination, simply walk in to any state-run COVID-19 vaccination clinic or book in at your nearest participating pharmacy. The WA Government is also continuing to work closely with GPs who would like to administer additional free vaccines.

People aged under 5 years, people aged over 65 years, pregnant women, individuals at higher risk of complications from influenza, and Aboriginal people aged six months and older are currently eligible for a free flu vaccination under the National Immunisation Program.

Please note, state-run clinics do not offer flu vaccinations for children under 5 years. Children under 5 years can instead access a free flu vaccine under the National Immunisation Program.

To stay safe over winter, continue to practise good hygiene habits, wear a mask as necessary, and if you are unwell, stay home.
