Already posted I think but worthy of an individual post. Possibly the only thing worth buying during this poor excuse of a sale

This is cheaper than just buying the bottle of CO2 by itself

    • Costco have a 2-pack for around $50.
Was $10 off once, so that made it only a couple dollars more than the $19 swap.

      • I thought it was $46 at perth.

    • +2

Check out the SodaKING Refill Gas 60L at Spotlight. $14 for 60L is pretty good compared to the other refill cylinders I've seen

  • How much replacement CO2 bottles?

Just wonder if it's cheaper than buying home brand sparkling.

    • +6

But you won't be saving the planet

        • +7

It's not about the planet caring about us. We live on this planet and depend on it to survive…

Leave the science to people who have a brain champ

        • Username checks out

        • Clearly havent flown over Europe at night… How could there not be significant impact..

      • Agree, better than lugging 1L plastic bottles around from the supermarket, carbonated water from Sodastream is probably healthier too (no added sodium etc).

    • usually $19 but often go on sale at spotlight for $12-14.

      • +1

I have no idea spotlight sold refills for that cheap.

        • yes, with the 40% off. They won't take back sodastream just soda king, big w and coles (i think) do.
Interchangeable though and i usually just get mine from there.

          • @G-rig: Wasn't keen on the twist screw from soda king.

Some other places to take sodastream back for refill
            Coles express
            Woolworth
            Harvey Norman (costs more)

        • $14 at the moment actually (posted in another thread)

          https://www.spotlightstores.com/kitchen-and-dining/drinkware…

      • How long it will last?

        • depends how many you go though and how fizzy you want but seems to last me a fair while
          makes 60L apparently

          • @G-rig: Thanks 60L is a lot for me

          • +2

@G-rig: makes 35l if your lucky, 60l is volume of c02 when expanded to a gas. home brand bottles work out cheaper except for the PET poluttion.

    • +1

It’s not cheaper unless you refill the soda stream canisters.

      • How so? Swapping a cylinder is $19 and if you get about 60L to a cylinder, the cost is about 32c/L. That is normally cheaper than what you can buy sparkling water for from the supermarket.

Taking into account the initial cost of the maker and depending on how much you drink, the payback period could be quite short with savings continuing afterwards.

    • Google kegland Sodastream.

      6kg CO2 bottle refill is $50

We get about 900 litres out of each.

Cost about $130 one off to buy the bottle and fittings

    • +1

You can get a 2.6kg co2 cylinder + soda stream adapter and refill from that if you want to bring the cost per L down.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/516961 - comes on special at random times.

Soda stream cylinders are 400g of co2, so you get about 5x refills out of the 2.6kg cylinder, so it pays itself back before the first refill (5x $19 = $95). After that you can refill the 2.4kg cylinder at a home brewery shop for $25 (depending on the shop), making it cost even less per serve.

      400g cylinder = 60L @ $19 = 32c/L
      2.6kg cylinder = ~300L @ $25 = 8.3c/L

Even cheaper = you could get a 6kg cylinder.

      • This^
Also the perfect setup would be getting a hose adapter to plug in directly into the soda stream instead of the refill adapter so you don't have to keep re-filling the soda stream cylinder which gets more difficult to refill completely and you will find yourself refilling more often as the larger cylinder is close to running out of co2.

        • Agree. If I didn't keep my machine on my kitchen bench I'd definately get the hose. Don't want to drill through the stone top though.

Wish it was a bit shorter it would fit in the pantry.

  • Can it makes soft drinks like Pepsi etc? Sorry newbie to this.

    • Yes, you need the bottles of syrup to combine with it.

    • yes, it makes bubbly/carbonated water - you can then add flavour (think: thick cordial) to the bubbly water

If you want Pepsi, yes that can also be done: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/national/product/sodastream-peps…

      • Thank you both.

May be much to ask but what’s the basic difference between their offerings? There are too many products

        https://sodastream.com.au/pages/sparkling-water-makers

If one just want to make occasional sparkling water / soft drinks on a camping trip, does this suffice?

        • I have the Source Element which has the LED indicator showing carbonation level. You could just as easily count 1000, 2000, 3000 + when gassing up to get the desirable level of carbonation on cheaper models.

        • +1

Main differences are the electric vs manual, a new design of bottle that is made to go with more compact machines (like the jet) and the “one touch” is manual but it looks like you tap it once rather than hold it for how much fizz you want.

This model would suffice well. Put in canister, put in plastic bottle (new design), hold the button for a while. I bought an electric one and all it does is have preset fizz levels so I don’t need to figure it out myself.

        • Looks, auto-pump etc..

You don't need the fancy ones if you're an occasion drinker. I drink it everyday and have the similar model. It'll make a litre of it for you with a few pumps which takes about 5 seconds.

    • +2

Yes, but it's not quite the same. I prefer to use the Bickfords cordials with my SodaStream.

    • You can add anything to it, I've added fruit juice.
The only one you can't buy is Coke but i think that's because Pepsi co owns Sodastream.

    • Don't add the syrup first

      Don't try and rebuble drinks

If you try you'll see why you shouldn't have

  • I bought one- thanks!

$79 comes up for me, not sure if the deal is over?

  • Oos

  • Got an update 29 paid 28 Sent 🤔

  • +2

If you're a big soda water drinker, you can buy an adapter to divorce yourself from the sodastream ecosystem and use a standard co2 tank (about $35 to refill, makes 300L)

    https://www.kegland.com.au/freedomone-sodastream-adapter-hos…

    • Our 2.6kg Gas bottles can carbonate up to 390L. With a refill (if you ever run out) costing about $25-35
Or with our 6.0kg cylinder you'll be able to carbonate up to 900L - Refills around $50-60.

  • $29 is too damn good when it comes with a gas cannister and a bottle. The gas cannisters cost $35 at woolworths by themselves. Bought, and shipped already.

    • does the $29 contain the same amount compared to $35 from woolworths?

      • It says 60L CO2 Cylinder so yes as that is the standard size.

  • My perception is these new models use more gas compared to the old style. I seem to get alot of leakage in the pressure clamp rather than screw in. And use gas quicker, down from a month to about 2/3 weeks. Enough so that I am stopping using it. Which is a saving It guess.
If it is an intentional design to make greater profit off gas refills, then this is a fail for customers of my ilk.

    • I think it's meant to be a safety feature but I agree, I much prefer the older screw in style.

      • Yeah it's not too hard to screw them in

  • Whats the difference between genesis and spirit model?

  • Thanks ordered

  • If you use the water bottles past their use by date, does that mean they are more prone to cracking/not holding pressure?
