I was so tempted to buy this but already have a chromecast with Google tv. After reading a few websites they basically the same thing…. If you running an older chromecast then it’s worth the upgrade but not if you have Google tv.
chromecast with google tv also has one feature that is very useful

I got the $39 first then my card went bellow 20$ and the gift card didn't go through. Meanwhile the fire TV arrived, then I was like "wait a minute I don't have to go though with this" and just cancelled the gift card, $39 spent at the end.

Deal is now over but the 4K Max is considerably snappier than older smart TV's. I have one which I use with my LG C1 for certain apps which take ages to launch on LG's webOS.

Heads up for anyone looking at tinkering - don't update the FireTV. The latest update blocks custom launchers. I'm returning mine and getting a replacement and will block any updates moving forward.

@wisc: If you select "device only", you wont get the gift card, you will get the device only…hence being "device only".
When the offer was in stock, there was a separate option for device + gift card.

Hi guys, a small tech question, I have recently bought a fire TV stick from Amazon and installed on my Hitachi 4K TV. I found that whenever I click Live Tv app (which is preloaded app), it's taking me to Fire TV platform. I am missing news channels in the morning. Can someone pls advise how to fix this one ;)

Can I control the volume on the fire stick and can I put the fire stick to standby with the on/off button?
@superforever: Paramount+ I got currently experience some technical difficulties, no problem on other devices.
@superforever: I think volume control only works on TVs and other devices that are programmed in. I don't think it works with monitors (at least, not my Dell 4K monitor - but I don't think there is a monitor category available).
I believe it's because the fire TV is actually sending IR signals for the programmed devices (as if it was the stock remote for that device). So any device that doesn't already have a remote / IR sensor is not going to be able to control volume.
Only major problem I have with the Fire Stick!

Found hold the home button for 3 secs you will see the option to put it to sleep.

Yes, I use the monitor sound output to my PC speaker, so that I can control it by the PC volume control.
I would be nice if I can control it by the remote.
@superforever: I got mine last week and have used it connected to projector and bluetooth speaker, no problem adjusting volume with Firestick remote.
@OzBragain: My UHD monitor no speaker only 3.5mm out, hope they have volume control with the firestick itself, like andriod phone.
No big deal, I can control it from the PC speaker volume control.
This device has blown my mind for the price! Essential if you like trips and want to take your services with you (Netflix, Disney etc.). So good!
